As a Gateway Student... • you’ll be familiar with campus community before the fall semester starts. • you’ll develop the skills and behaviors that will prepare you for success in college and beyond. • you’ll become a part of the Mansfield community and develop friendships that will last a lifetime.
2020 Summer Program You’ll begin your journey in our four-week Summer Program where you’ll live in Mansfield’s residence halls, eat in our dining hall, and enroll in an English class and a general education elective class. To help ease your transition, you’ll participate in supplemental, critical reading instruction that will provide you with the tools you’ll need to master college level reading. You’ll also have access to peer mentoring, academic advising, tutoring, study labs, and workshops. And the Summer Program extends beyond the classroom! You’ll engage in weekend events, field trips, and leadership activities that are designed to help you meet your classmates and peer mentors. In addition, you’ll attend cultural activities and theatre performances off campus. These adventures and challenges will build your confidence by inspiring you to leave your comfort zone and learn new things!
2020 Fall Program After successfully completing the Summer Program, you’ll transition to your first semester at Mansfield University by enrolling as a full-time student. At this time, you’ll continue to receive personalized academic support and access to study labs, concentrated study groups, content reading, tutoring, peer mentoring, workshops, and supplemental instruction.
Preparation
As a Gateway Student, you’ll develop the skills you need to be successful at Mansfield University. Our program promotes successful study and time management skills, appropriate organization methods, better note-taking, increased reading comprehension, and applicable writing, communication, and computer literacy skills. We’ll also introduce you to career exploration and planning. And finally, we’ll help you identify and develop your unique set of strengths so that you may apply them to your college journey.
Connections
Requirements
Students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the summer program to be accepted for matriculation to MU in the fall semester.
One of the most important aspects of the Gateway Program is the meaningful connections that you’ll make with our mentors, academic advisors, faculty, and members of the Mansfield University community. You will not only meet other students through educational and social activities, but also develop a strong network of friends that will remain with you for your entire college career and possibly beyond.
