Sick Letters
There is much work in Letterland. When the letters wake up each morning, they run to their papers, expecting to be read. Letters by themselves aren’t much, but when they get together, they transmit messages, important news, and beautiful stories that make people dream. Each letter has its place and importance which they must keep so that everything works correctly. One day letter “E” got sick. “W” quickly offered her help. “W” replaced “E”, and the rest of the letters kept their places: “If a lwttwr gwts sick wvwry oncw in a whilw, this shouldn’t causw any problwms.” They said.

The next day “A” and “L” got sick as well. Once again, strong “W” took over their places, and work continued as usual, in letterland. - “Please mum, will you tell me a story?” - “Of course”: “Oncw upon w timw, thwrw wws w vwwwgw, whwrw w vwry brwvw girw cwwwwd W” Things got worse than it seemed in the beginning, “O”, “M”, and “C” were absent. It must be an epidemic. Things became difficult for all: - Have you seen the newspaper? It’s very important! Ww wrw wxpwwting vwry rwiny wwwthwr. PWWWSW DWN’T FWRGWT YWUR UMBRWWWWS! This couldn’t go on for long, even if “W” replaced as soon as possible the sick letters. People didn’t understand what they read, boys and girls couldn’t read books, and even worse, they couldn’t feed their vocabulary or their imagination. The letters got together in order to try to solve the situation. They found out then, that when the letters are used, they get dirty, they get sick, and they change their appearance. This must not happen. letters are too important. So the letters decided that there would be an obligatory monthly cleaning of each and every letter.

The “comma” decided to intervene, but “period” told her the situation was too urgent for a pause. -“I’ll take care of this, period!” he said. He wasn’t very polite, but often, in difficult times, he was always capable of solving problems quickly. Soon “E” began to recover, followed by “A” and “L”. Finally “M”, “O” and “C” recovered as well and there were no more sick letters. When the crisis was over, the letters discovered that with a bit of care they would be clean and healthy, and best of all, they would continue telling stories, news, and accompany boys and girls in their dreams.
