By the Numbers Tips for Success Your brain is not your day planner. Prioritization develops when you can see what’s coming next. To get plugged in, unplug. Put down the phone. Raise your hand. Speak. Ask. Listen. Your most valuable currency: ideas. Time spent developing an original idea is as crucial as time spent executing it. Syllabus = law. Read the contract with the professor.
Handwritten thank you notes > emails > likes. Old-school communication shows that you care enough to do a little extra. Relationships > GPAs. Grades should feel secondary to the process of working with your peers and professors. Do not use this to excuse your absence from class. Think of college as seven years. Build relationships with professors, alums, students ahead and behind you for 7-years worth of networking. Learn a world language. Learn computer programming or effective writing in addition to Spanish or Chinese.
“You will learn more here in the next four years than you can even imagine. Don’t let other people limit you on what you can learn.”
Naomi Velasquez

Employers want to see your personal brand in a sort of digital elevator pitch. Find a workout pal. Part of stress management is having enough energy to do quality work. You need good food, regular exercise, and lots of sleep. Success = style + substance. Skills are your substance. Your unique voice and creativity is your style.

At the MUSD District Celebration, we honored many deserving students who achieved great things academically, artistically, and athletically.
We Are Proud Of All Our Students The 2018-19 school year has been a very significant and special year personally for me. I have a daughter who is a senior graduating from Sierra High. Over the last four years, I have been able to very personally see the Class of 2019 students making a positive impact on their school and communities. I continue to be amazed and humbled to see the positive impact our high school students make in many unique ways. For example, by the many unique service projects our students complete in order to give back to their community. They excel in academics, music, the arts, and sports both individually and as a team. To empower them, MantecaUSD continues to provide teachers and learning environments that meet their innovative needs. Our students take different—and often multiple—paths towards their life goals. Each is valuable in their unique way. Some have chosen career technical education and hands-on classes that provide miles of experience along their chosen road. These students often earn recognition through FCLA, FFA, HOSA, and Skills USA as they compete against local and regional peers. We know these students leave us ready for the work force because their course work has prepared them with rigor.
Other students focused on a path that furthers their education. Many aggressively challenged themselves with advanced placement courses while seeking college acceptance in California or at prestigious schools across the nation. On the court or on the field, many students have athletically grown over the past four years. They have walked the paths of triumph and defeat while learning life-long lessons of teamwork, self-sacrifice, and the sheer joy of giving their all. Each step for every student, every day, has helped them learn and grow to become who they are at graduation day. It is an honor to be one of those who walk that path beside them, a member of the educational family that helps shape these students into who they are. We are proud of all our students, and proud to be MUSD.
