MUSD Nutrition Delivers 770 Food Boxes Wednesday at 11:00am, cars lined up in school parking lots excited to receive their free school lunch and a fresh Farmers to Families food box from our Nutrition Education team. Each box contained up to 20lbs. of meat. “We delivered a total of 770 food boxes!” reported Tracee Franks, Nutrition Education Department’s new coordinator. “The response from our community was very supportive.” As part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program, USDA is exercising authority under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to purchase and distribute agricultural products to those in need. The program partners with national, regional, and local distributors, whose workforces have been significantly impacted by the closure of restaurants, hotels and other food services businesses, to purchase up to $4 billion in fresh produce, dairy and meat products from American producers of all sizes. Our Nutrition team waited for several months to learn that their partnership with a local vendor had been approved with USDA to offer support to families in our community who may be facing food insecurity. Tracee Franks continued, "Nutrition Education’s goal is to support students and families by providing safe and nutritious meals, so that students can focus on their education. Covid-19 has provided many unknowns for families; it is my goal to ensure where a child gets their next meal is NOT one of those unknowns." The Farmers to Families Food Box Program allows MUSD to combat hunger and support the community at large by providing food to the community. The Nutrition team hopes to see you next Wednesday, September 30th beginning at 11:00am for your Farmers to Families food box. View the Farmers to Families Flyer
