txt.ure Tule, stone, wool Various projects / sizes Direction by Regina Pozo 2015 - Present

txt.ure is a brand that identifies lost fragments and narratives from Mexican design history, and expresses them through our designs with an emphasis on crasmanship, and preserving historical techniques. v My job as a Designer at txt.ure is to establish a close relationship and dialogue between the craftsmen and design. I have collaborated with master artisans who are experts at making furniture in seagrass, carpets in wool and cotton, and tables in volcanic stone. I have developed different types of projects for clients including the Luis Barragan House & Studio, and the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Cabos. I am interested in experimenting with different materials based on the same designs and techniques of elaboration, in order to be able to explore the limits of a design in its contemporaneity. v

Designing Einstein’s Dreams Blankets for refugees, tree twigs, nylon Variable size Under the direction of Anthony Dunne & Fiona Raby Domaine de Boisbuchet, France 2017 link

This project was produced as part of a workshop taught by Anthony Dunne & Fiona Raby, based on the book “Einstein’s Dreams” by Alan Lightman. In the workshop, we designed objects that illustrated or recreated some of the environments described in the book. This gold tunnel acts as a long speaker that captures the sound from one space and carries it deep into the forest of Boisbuchet, so that the two different places can feel connected. This object was designed for one of the characters from the book; for the people of the future living in the present. They are obscure, quiet and lonely characters; if they say or do something they could change the course of our future. The object sought to create a voyeuristic sensation, arousing the curiosity of passers-by for what happens on the other side in order to provoke the feeling that someone is on the other side looking at or listening to you. To watch this alongside other fantastic projects from the workshop click here.

My Phone is a Petri Dish PLA rigid, PET and agar 7 x 13.5 cm x 1.5 cm / 2.7 x 5.3 x 0.6 inches 2015 link

The mobile phone is known to be a great repository of microorganisms, and is also, arguably, an indispensable object in our daily lives. My Phone is a Petri Dish is intended to make a comment on the daily interactions between humans and bacteria, by creating a cell phone case with an encapsulation of bacteria taken from everyday places. As a designer my focus was on designing the material qualities of the casing – the culture medium (agar) – and allowing the bacteria to grow, so that they would decorate it with their complex growthpatterns. I developed the casing in a range of colors with a variety of bacteria cultures, in order to allow the user a more personal relationship with the object and with his/her microbiota.

10

Petri Dishes containing cultures sampled from a variety of places. As a designer I played only with the colors of the agar (medium used for bacterial culture), as well as selecting the diversity of bacterial species I wanted to cultivate.

Molds made from the shape of the mobile phone in order to determine the dimensions of the final product. I used these molds in a similar way to the petri dishes of prior experiments: I cast their form using the colored agar and selected the microorganism(s) or object (s) they would contain. The intention was to make visible what is imperceptible to the human eye.

Final products displaying diferent colors of casing. This concept sought the total customization of the product, from choosing the color of the edge of the casing, to the color of the agar medium and the microorganisms encapsulated. The intention was for the product be packaged with a description of the place where the bacterial cultures were taken. In the examples displayed, one culture came from the casing of my own mobile phone (top image), the second from a sample of holy water taken from a church, while the other was sampled from tobacco smoke and rain water. 11

Design Cartographies Website 2017 - Present cartograďŹ as.com.mx

Design Cartographies is a catalog that gathers and archives a record of objects that fulďŹ ll the same function manifested throughout a single country, in this case Mexico. The objective is to document popular, vernacular designs in their geographic locations. This extensive register of anonymous design is intended as a design resource, allowing for the studying of relations between design, materials, and geographic location. This is a community mapping project that is done by all and for all. The spatial scope is only achieved by voluntary collaborations contributed through the website. It is an exercise to study the geography of a country through design.

12

First, the entire territorial extension is shown with marks where an object is located geographically.

The map is divided into three regions (north, center & south). You can select the area you wish to explore and search for objects using keywords: Name, Designer, City, Place and Location.

The Time of the Stone Stone Variable dimensions A special thanks to Antolin & his family 2013 -Present

Humankind has the ability to re-deďŹ ne the function of certain naturally occurring objects in order to meet our needs. One of the examples that has attracted me the most are natural stone formations that are used as seats The Time of the Stone is an exercise in thinking what would happen if nature was designed to satisfy some of our whims. For this project I slightly adjusted the width of a waterfall in the course of small river, so that the water would fall on a rock and slowly erode it to the dimensions of a seat for a 7 year-old Mexican boy. The time it will take for this waterfall to create this rock seat with ergonomic measures is irrelevant. The intention of this project is to question the slowness of natural processes against the accelerated rate of consumption and demand by which we live our lives.

14

Expected anthropometric dimensions (in millimeters.)

125 345 375

296 Near the river, a rock was taken with measures close to those of the seat.

The water hitting the rock will wear it away, until it reaches the depth of the required seat.

Using plastic couplings, I adapted the diameter of water outow to match that of the width of the eventual seat. 15
