My ancestors were from Rajasthan, so the place always has and always will remain close to my heart. I took the inspiration for this piece from my visit to Johari Bazar in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Here there are stalls where people from different villages in Rajasthan come together to sell items like glass bangles, carpets, hand printed fabrics , pottery and beautifully painted puppets with wooden heads. I realised that this local industry was slowly losing popularity and market value because of modernisation. My piece depicts an old puppeteer saddened due to his dying art. In the background are two puppet sin their glorifying detail. I am particularly fond of puppets because they are used to narrate old folk tales.
