This piece is my rendition of culture and fashion. The Ghoomar dance is a traditional folk dance of the Bhil tribe, later embraced by other Rajasthani communities. The word “ghoomna” describes the twirling movement of the dancers and forms the word “ghoomar”. This dance form captivated me: the movement, the colours, the emotions all influenced me to create this piece. It a typical formation of the dance, with six women in a circle, each in a traditional Rajasthani “lehenga” in vivid colours. Then I spaced other traditional fabrics, like Leheriya and Bandhani to accentuate the cultural confluence with movement.
