A new year often brings with it new beginnings - new kura, new opportunities, new goals, new hoa. How exciting to be part of something new! Many many years ago, Ihowā had a “new” too – He made a new creation, that included new hoa for Himself – everything was new! Let’s look at how perfect and ātaahua the “new” was that Ihowā created. A long time ago, Ihowā made the very first tāne and named him Adam. Ihowā made Adam from the dust of the earth. When Ihowā breathed life into Adam, he came alive and lived in a beautiful kāri called Eden. Ihowā made hills and valleys, fragrant putiputi and buzzing pī , tall rākau and feathered manu, huge tohorā and raiona. In fact, Ihowā made everything there is – everything! And he made everything perfect, and ātaahua – and that includes YOU!!
The most important thing we can learn about being created was we were made in the image of Ihowā. This shows that people have value to Ihowā. While He created us along with everything else, He made us different from all other created things by making us in His image.

Ihowā Rested
Ihowā made EVERYTHING in six ` days. On the seventh day, Ihowā rested. Ihowā told Adam he could eat whatever he chose from the kāri, but not to eat fruit from the rākau of the knowledge of good and evil. In the kāri of Eden, Adam and Eve (his wife) had perfect happiness. Ihowā was their Lord, their provider and their hoa. In the evenings Ihowā would walk and talk with them in the kāri. Adam and Eve were so hari in the kāri. They had everything they needed. But our world is not ātaahua anymore. There is sin and death in the world and people do kino things. How did this happen?
Ihowā has an enemy – Satan. Satan wants everybody to disobey and hate Ihowā. Satan saw the ātaahua kāri that Ihowā had made for Adam and Eve, and said to himself “I am going to trick Adam and Eve so that they will disobey Ihowā. That will spoil the ātaahua world Ihowā has made.” Satan disguised himself as a serpent and said to Eve “Did Ihowā say not to eat from the rākau of good and evil?” He told Eve that if she ate some of its fruit, she would be like Ihowā.” Eve saw how ātaahua the fruit looked. Even though she knew what Ihowā had said, she believed Satan and ate some, and gave some to Adam to eat too.
Now instead of having Ihowā in their hearts, they had sin in their hearts. And instead of being like Ihowā, they became sinners! Satan was glad because he wanted them to be sinners like him, but they were pōuri. It was a very pōuri day. When Ihowā came to walk and talk with them in the evening, they hid from Him. They were afraid because they knew they had done wrong. Sin is a terrible thing. Because Adam and Eve sinned, they had to leave the ātaahua kāri that Ihowā had created for them. They could no longer live there.
When Adam and Eve had tamariki, their tamaraki were born with sin in their hearts. And ever since that time, every person born has sin in his or her heart. Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed and could no longer live in the kāri, that didn’t stop Ihowā loving them. Ihowā knows we do kino things which He calls sin, and the penalty for sin is death. But Ihowā aroha us so very much that He sent His tama, Ihu, to die on a ripeka and take the punishment for us. Ihu died in our place! Now Ihowā can forgive our sins without us having to pay a penalty. If you want to be forgiven for your sin and give your life to Ihowā, read through “God’s Plan for Me”.
