WHERE ARE YOU GOING? When Billy Graham was 92 years old, he was struggling with Parkinson's disease. One month before his 93rd birthday, leaders in Charlotte, North Carolina, invited Billy Graham to a lunch in his honour. Billy initially hesitated to accept the invitation because of his struggles with Parkinson's disease, but the Charlotte leaders said, "We don't expect a major korero. Come and let us honour you." So he agreed.

After wonderful things were said about him, Dr. Graham stepped to the podium, looked at the crowd, and said: "I'm reminded today of Albert Einstein, the great physicist. Einstein was once travelling from Princeton on a train, when the conductor came down the aisle, punching the tickets of every passenger. When he came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket, but couldn't find his ticket. He reached in his trouser pocket. It wasn't there. He looked in his briefcase but couldn't find it. Then he looked in the seat beside him. He still couldn't find it.

The conductor said, "Dr. Einstein, I know who you are. We all know who you are. I'm sure you bought a ticket. Don't worry about it." Einstein nodded appreciatively.

Having said that, Billy Graham continued, "See the suit I'm wearing? It's a brand new suit I bought for this lunch, and for one other occasion.

The conductor continued down the aisle punching tickets. As he was ready to move to the next car, he turned around and saw the great physicist down on his hands and knees looking under his seat for his ticket.

Do you know what the occasion is? This is the suit in which I'll be buried. But when you hear I'm dead, I don't want you to immediately remember the suit I'm wearing. I want you to remember this:

The conductor rushed back and said, "Dr. Einstein, Dr. Einstein, don't worry. I know who you are; no problem. You don't need a ticket. I'm sure you bought one." Einstein looked at him and said, "Young man, I too, know who I am. What I don't know is where I am going." TUPU WHAKARANGI

I not only know who I am. I also know where I am going. Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil - it has no point." May each of us have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour so that when our ticket is punched, we don't have to worry about where we are going.

WHY CHRISTIANS SHOULD NOT CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN called Dia de Muertos, and is a time of celebrating the dead through rituals, ceremonies and cemetery visits. Opinions differ among church leaders and churchgoers alike about whether Christians should celebrate Halloween, but John Ramirez, ex satanist turned Christian evangelist, says believers should not celebrate it.

The origin of Halloween can be traced back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, a custom where sacrifices were made to the gods in Druid tradition. The followers believed that Samhain, the god of death, scattered evil spirits throughout the world to attack human beings and so, to escape the attack, followers would make themselves look like evil spirits too. As Christianity spread throughout Europe, it came into conflict with many indigenous pagan

beliefs and the organised church of the time tried to challenge these customs by introducing Christian alternatives. U n f o r t u n a t e l y, the missionaries only succeeded in “Christianizing” pagan rituals and introduced Christian symbols and practices to pagan traditions. They injected the All Saints’ Day concept into the Halloween celebration. While this sounds holy, there is nothing holy about it. To the Spanish culture it is 6

John Ramirez was once entrenched in the occult and satanism. From the time he was 8 years old, John was caught up in a satanic cult, introduced by his father’s family. For twenty-five years John served in the occult, sacrificing animals as part of satanic rituals. He was appointed gate keeper of darkness by other high-ranking satanists and his friends knew him as “Lucifer’s son”. John, now a born-again believer, strongly warns against Christians celebrating Halloween. While some kids dress up as witches and devils, or even seemingly harmless costumes like puppies and pumpkins, and go WWW.MAORIPOSTAL.CO.NZ

trick-or-treating, John is warning Christians against doing that. For John, the devil was more than a costume - Satan was his father. He would talk with the devil and even got married on Halloween in a demonic ceremony. “I remember the days leading up to Halloween. We devil worshippers had our instructions from the demon world about what had to be done, and we knew it was going to be a long night. I would sleep all day to be rested and ready so I could unleash hell on the world. It saddens my heart to see Christians dressing up in costumes, trick-ortreating and bobbing for apples. They think because they are not performing any demonic rituals or human sacrifices that they are safe, but as soon as you dress up or take part in Halloween you have dedicated yourself to celebrating the devil’s holiday. You have made a pact with the enemy and are spiritually sacrificing your children by dressing them up and changing their identity.” After several decades of living as an ally of evil, God opened his eyes. John was born again and gave his life to Jesus Christ, and everything changed. Now he warns Christians about dabbling with the TUPU WHAKARANGI

darkness and for the past twenty years, he has been persistently working to expose the enemy’s schemes. While active in the witchcraft world, he said he “knew Christians had the anointing, the authority and the power to destroy the kingdom of darkness but they were spiritually anaemic.” “The devil is at work and targeting Christians. Many people who follow Christ don’t seem to take spiritual warfare seriously which I find concerning. Jesus never took the devil lightly in Scripture." Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan, once said: “I want to thank every Christian parent for allowing their children to worship the devil at least one night out of the year. Welcome to Halloween.” “When I was working in the underworld, I specifically targeted Christians and Jesus Christ, not other religions. No one targets Buddha or Muhammad because they are not a threat to the occult or to the New Age. The devil doesn’t chase them because they’re in his backyard anyway. Anton LaVey is intentionally thanking CHRISTIAN parents for dressing up their kids 7

and sacrificing spiritually.

them

You will never see satanists coming to church on Good Friday. No way!! So how is it that as Christians, we are ok with saluting and honouring the devil? October is witchcraft month. I lived and practiced it for 25 years. If you're going to tell me that Halloween is ok when you’ve never lit up a candle, killed animals, drank animal blood, or talked with the devil, I think you're very delusional as a believer. We have been sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. As Christians, let us use Halloween as an evangelistic opportunity to tell people of God’s goodness and how He can transform their lives too."

Dungeons & Dragons is a multimedia franchise featuring books, video games, comics and movies. All of these are derived from the same source – a role playing game which is essentially a feeding program for occultism and witchcraft created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. William Schnoebelen was involved in helping with some of the magical rituals found in the game. He says: “I was a witch high priest from 1973 to 1984. During some of that time I was also involved in hardcore satanism. In the late 1970’s a couple of the D&D game writers came to my wife and I as we were prominent “sorcerers” in the community. These two guys sat in our living room and took copious notes on how to make certain the rituals in the game were authentic." During 1986 a former D&D game writer was interviewed on The 700 Club. He had gotten into an argument with the management at TSR (the company that makes D&D), because it occurred to him the rituals were too authentic and could be dangerous. He was told that this was the intention. Although he was not a Christian at that time, he was conscience-stricken and resigned from the company.

Therefore, if a person was to “innocently” work an authentic ritual that conjured up a demon or cursed someone, thinking they are only playing a game, would the ritual have the ability to produce the intended result? William says "God’s physical universe runs on laws, and this is no less real in the spiritual realm. Just because the people who are playing D&D think they are playing a game, the evil spirits (who ARE very real) do not regard it as a game. If you are doing rituals or saying spells that invite them into your life, then they will come – believe me! As a Christian, if you tamper with magic and the occult, you are stepping out from under God's will and His protection. If you are not a Christian, then you are playing with fire. Another issue with the game are the values that are not only pro-violence and death, but also train the player in an entirely different way of looking at life, known by anthropologists as the “Magical World View” (MWV). The MWV is far outside the realms of Biblical values. To explain. The MWV teaches there exists in the universe a neutral 8

force, which is magic. There is no sovereign God, but rather the universe is run like a gigantic piece of machinery. Magic’s application is the understanding of how to manipulate the universe to get what you want. One cannot be a Christian and believe in the MWV without some sort of deception having taken place. This magical morality pervades D&D and is in opposition to the Word of God. It would be impossible for someone to immerse themselves in this game without having it impact their lives in a detrimental way given the highly demonic and magical content of the game. D&D is a form of mind-control which uses real occultic techniques to foster possession by evil spirits. I have met people who say “I’m too together to fall for stuff like that. It’s just a game!” My response yeah, and an H-bomb is just a firecracker! Like the people who think they can play around with crack or premarital sex and not get burned by death, disease or unwanted pregnancies. The person who thinks they can mess around with Dungeons & Dragons without getting burned is whistling in the dark*. This game has been too carefully crafted." * Trying to remain brave and convince oneself that the situation is not as bad as it seems.

The Netflix series “Stranger Things” is based on this game. In the first episode, we are introduced to a group of kids sitting in their parents basement playing a game of D&D. The series then follows them stepping out of the game and into reality.

The Paipera Tapu is very clear about witchcraft and sourcery. Do not touch it! Transcendental meditation, tarot cards, oracle cards, breathwork, yoga, crystals, runes, pendulums, psychic readings, manifesting. Do not play with dark forces. Do not invite them in. Trust in God alone (Deuteronomy 18:10-14, Micah 5:10-12, Acts 19:17-20, Galatians 5:19-21, Revelations 21:8).

MPA IN OUR COMMUNITIES MATARIKI LIGHT GLOW, MASTERTON

The day was bitterly cold and wet, with an icy wind. My friend had driven an hour and a half back to Masterton, after his radiation treatment, to join me for Matariki. I had had my first infusion at the Masterton Hospital the afternoon before, for my own medical issue, so neither of us knew how we would fare.

The people who stopped were happy to wait, and were very open to hearing the gospel. I spoke to one girl in the line, “Did you know, God has made you motuhake, one of a kind? There’s no one like you in the whole world! No one has your smile, your style, and nobody can do things the way you do them. God has a unique plan and purpose for you. Did you know that you can talk to God in your head? How crazy is that? God says "Call out to me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3)

But we set up, giving out a booklet here and there. There "Karanga ki ahau, ā, ka Who knew that talking was a constant trickle whakahoki kupu ahau and listening to God can of adults and tamariki making their way up ki a koe, ka whakakitea make you smart!” and over the narrow foot hoki e ahau ki a koe ngā mea nunui, ngā mea She replied with a genuine bridge, to the Matariki lights. JORDAN TAYLOR'S TESTIMONY I used to practice witchcraft. I did spells, read oracle cards, did energy work and used crystals as a means of healing, protecting and manifesting.

I was a reiki master and a yoga teacher. I believed in astrology, manifested under a new moon, and did shadow work under the full moon. I believed I was a starseed. I found my spirit guides and let them lead the course of my life. I would talk to “Spirit/Source/ Universe” and believe that I was speaking to my “higher self”. I believed that I created my own reality and that I was my own god, in control of my own life. I was also trapped in a continuous cycle of healing and “uplevelling,” constantly needing healing sessions in various forms. But I was suffering and in a deep pit of depression. I longed to feel loved, heard and understood. My soul lacked a sense of belonging. My body was in a constant state of fight or flight. I was being tormented, experiencing regular sleep paralysis. I thought I could burn a little sage, say a little chant, and put crystals in every corner of my room to stop it. I was wrong about all of it. What I was actually doing was laying down a welcome mat for darkness, deception and all that comes with it. I felt so allergic to the G-word (God). I almost unfriended a colleague who had recently come to Christ because she wouldn’t stop talking about Jesus. But in God’s grace, He met me in my stubbornness. In my sin. In my depression.

There was a moment in my resistance where I reluctantly watched a movie about Jesus to appease my boyfriend. I sobbed hysterically. I was overcome by an intense feeling of love. The kind of love that I was desperately chasing in all the wrong ways. That’s when I knew God was after my heart. I tried to deny and ignore it, but I wanted that feeling again so I chased after Jesus. I started reading the Bible. God’s character was revealed to me. I prayed. A lot. I had resistance to attending church but eventually I found a biblically sound church that I love. This is how my relationship with God started. I never knew what it meant to have a relationship with Jesus. Now that I know, I will never let that go. The chains of depression have been broken. I have never experienced another sleep paralysis episode. I find joy in the Lord. I’ve been made free by His Word, felt the power of His Spirit, felt the love of the Father, and I’m changed forever. New Agers think there are multiple ways to God, and that you just have to find “your truth” or that you can access “Christ consciousness.” None of that is true. The truth is there are not multiple ways to God. Jesus is the only Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one gets to the Father except through Him. John 14:6. 12

Tauwhare CHAPEL SIX TIETH ANNIVERSARY

When upgrades were underway at the Maori Postal Aotearoa office in Whanganui, some old Tupu Whakarangi magazines were discovered. One had an article about the opening of the Tauwhare Bible Chapel on 26 January 1963. It was then that we realised it was exactly sixty years since the Chapel had been built, so decided to acknowledge the faithfulness of God in a special hui on 8 July 2023. The hui opened with a powhiri at the Marae, followed by a blessing at the Chapel led by Te Mape Haimona and Harataki Manihera.

Kemp Pallesen cutting the cake

Back at the Marae a hakari was held, accompanied by waiata from the Hallelujah Gospel Band. After the hakari a speaker from each generation shared their memories. The first speaker was Tom Wheki whose father gave the land for the Chapel next to the Marae, followed by Kemp Pallesen who, along with his brother Graham, has had a long association with the believers at Tauwhare. Kemp also cut the cake. Other speakers included Brian Goodwin, who has been an encouragement to the people since the days of Gospel Literature Outreach, and Taumoana Rapana, whose late father Rubal had been an elder for many years, along with Walter Manaia (who contributed by video). It was an evening of great rejoicing, many waiata and reconnections. The members of the Chapel worked tirelessly and in unity, wanting, above all, for it to be an occasion that was filled with thanksgiving and glory to God for His goodness and for the Christian heritage that has been passed on by faithful tupuna. whare rama During our travels around Aotearoa we visited a couple of lighthouses – one at Akaroa and the other at Cape Reinga. These are two of the twentythree remaining lighthouses and seventy-five light beacons (minilighthouses) around our coastline which have saved many lives over the years. The history of lighthouses is quite interesting. There are records of bonfires being used on cliffs to warn ships of dangerous rocks as early as 800BC, and the Romans built lighthouse towers as they expanded their empire across Europe. Our lighthouses have been built overlooking a total of 120 shipwreck sites: - Cape Palliser. At the southern tip of the North Island, and lies above twenty shipwrecks. - Waipapa Point. At the entrance of Foveaux Strait, and was built after NZ’s worst maritime disaster when 131 passengers were lost. - Pencarrow Head. The oldest lighthouse built in 1858. It is also the only lighthouse to have had a female lighthouse keeper. The life of a lighthouse keeper was hard and lonely. They had to sit up all night, keeping the wick of the lamp trimmed, every fifteen minutes pumping oil to the light, maintained the clockwork that turned the light, and were never able to go to sleep or they would be dismissed. In the 1950s the lighthouses received electricity. However, these days lighthouse keepers are no longer required as the light beams are remotely operated from Wellington by Maritime NZ. 14

The purpose of a lighthouse is to warn ships away from danger like rocks or reefs. Our sin can be like rocks – sometimes obvious, but sometimes unseen and just as dangerous. Sin not only harms ourselves and others, it can totally shipwreck our lives. Ihu Karaiti is like a lighthouse in the darkness of this world. He came to give light so that we might escape the danger and destruction of sin. "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. " John 12:46

If you look to the light of Ihu Karaiti and confess that your course has been wrong, if you believe that only He can save you, and ask Him to fill you with the light of His Spirit who will guide you each day, He has promised that He will do that and bring you into the safe harbour of the kingdom of Ihowā.

"Kua tae mai nei ahau hei whakamarama mo te ao, "Put your trust in the light you have it, so that kei noho i te while you may become sons of pouri tetahi e light." John 12:36 whakapono These words from the ana ki ahau song “The Lighthouse” by Hinsons Gospel group Hoani 12:46 The (1970) express it so well:

Ihu Karaiti came to save us from the consequences of our foolishness and rebellion. He came to light the way and bring forgiveness, healing, eternal life and peace with Ihowā. He did this by giving His life in place of ours so that we might be saved from the righteous judgement of Ihowā.

"In him was life, and that life was the light of men." John 1:4 Psalm 121 tells us that Ihowā is always watching over us. He never falls asleep and His light never goes out. We find that light by reading and obeying the Paipera Tapu. "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. " Psalms 119:105 Is your life going off course? Sound of Freedom is not just a story about rescuing innocent lives, but also an exploration of the dark underbelly of human trafficking. The film fearlessly exposes the harsh realities of this global crisis while shedding light on the valiant efforts of organizations like Operation Underground Railroad, headed by Tim Ballard himself. The movie succeeds in raising awareness about this important issue without shying away from its disturbing nature. Ultimately, what sets Sound of Freedom apart is its ability to instil a sense of hope amidst the darkest of circumstances. ordered. Home is not a place to slack off but rather a place where aroha and care is nurtured. Home is not the place to give way to fleshly urges and sinful desires and reactions, but rather it is in the home that we first show the fullness of the Spirit of God.

Now to look at the husband’s role:

Let’s look at the wife’s role:

But husbands are sinners and can easily get caught up with their own expectations of their wives. Those expectations can be in the physical intimacy of marriage, in the way the home is kept, or 1000 other reasons that can cause a husband to easily be embittered with his wife.

God performed the first marriage with Adam and Eve. He knew exactly what was needed for marriage to work for everyones good. When this command is understood as it was intended, the practice of submission is beautiful. It is protective of whānau, brings glory to Christ and showers the submissive wife with honour and blessing from God and her husband. It is a beautiful and unifying peace generating action. It fosters love and appreciation from the husband and promotes peace, sensibility, and order in the home. Being submissive is not “obeying” but rather a willing and voluntary action of the wife toward the husband, as the Christian does toward the Lord. The Lord would never ask anything of anyone that was sinful or unbiblical so neither should the husband ask of his wife anything that is wrong. The wife is able to say no if there is an unbiblical request.

TUPU WHAKARANGI

On the surface it seems bizarre that husbands need to be instructed to love their wives. Loving your wife would seem very natural for it is the woman you chose to marry.

The Holy Spirit, through Paul, gives this command “Husbands, love your wives”. It does not say “love them only if they meet your expectations”. Regardless of expectations, husbands are to love their wives. This aroha is not just words but acts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness and showing all the fruit of the Spirit. Pray for your wife. This is vital for her task is hard. Words alone mean little unless there are actions of aroha. You have committed yourself to being a one-woman man. You have been taken out of circulation. Job gave us help in this when he said: "I made a covenant

with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.” Job 31:1 Your eyes are to be only for your wife. That is what true godly love does. Your intimate love talk is only to be directed toward your wife. Your sexual thought life will only involve your wife. The words that you said at the wedding 'I am yours, you are mine, TILL DEATH DO US PART' mean exactly that. As Christ loves the church and seeks her good continually, so too are

husbands to love their wives. It is a high calling husbands, but one that the Lord empowers you to fulfil. Honouring the Lord demands that you love your wife as Christ loves the Church. Colossians 3:12-17 When husbands and wives fulfil their roles in their marriage then their marriage will be secure, their whānau safe and above all, God is honoured. Article by Russell Hohneck

Prayer for the husbands:

'Please Lord teach me the richness of submission as unto you. Help me to subdue the fleshly reactions and let my heart be at peace with submission in a way that honours you. Amen'

'Lord, the calling is high and hard and it is continuous. I am inclined to love myself more, so Lord help me to love my wife as I promised on our wedding day. Let our marriage bring you honour continually. Amen'

Proverbs 16:28 Have you ever asked yourself why some people gossip? Often a person gossips simply because they want to appear important or "in the know".
