BLACK MONDAY PROTEST SHOW APARTHEID VIBES! “BRANDISHING OLD SA SYMBOLS UNDERMINE DEMOCRACY!” - Mthethwa
The Monday of October 30 was one to never forget, as South Africans were surprised to wake up and discover farmers blocking major routes and highways all over. But the most shocking scenes revealed from the black t-shirt parade of mostly Afrikaner ‘Boers’ who decided to wear the old South African flag. In one extreme incident, a protester burnt the actual country flag.
Arts & Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa has condemned these acts, saying that brandishing the old flag does not advance the cause for social cohesion and nation-building. “Killing and attacks of any kind on South African citizens are unacceptable and conflicting to the kind of society we seek to build – a truly non-racial, non-sexist, and democratic society,” he said in a statement. The department has said that they
are deeply sympathetic to the plight of rising murder rates surrounding the farming community. But, they have noted that the event of burning the current flag and flying of the old is strongly condemned. During the protests, accidents were reported in some areas, where two trucks plunged into the blockade of bakkies parked by the protestors on the road.
Gauteng Premier and FF Plus confirm date to discuss Farm Murders!
An agreement occurred recently between Gauteng Premier David Makhura and the MPL of the FF Plus in Gauteng, Mr. Philip van Staden to discuss farm murders, murders and protest actions in Gauteng led to an official date being set. The office of the Premier has set and confirmed the date as Thursday, November 16. The meeting arose from a member statement by Van Staden in the legislature on Tuesday (October 30) regarding the recent Black Monday protest actions against farm murders. In his statement Van Staden said more protest
actions against farm murders and murders are to follow to pressurize government into action. Van Staden furthermore said amid the current crisis it is highly unlikely that government will act because government itself seems to be the problem. The Premier subsequently requested a discussion over these issues and it was mutually agreed that it must be an urgent discussion, said Van Staden.
“The FF Plus is most willing to enter into discussions and assist in seeking solutions for these matters.
The Premier’s invitation for a dialogue is a positive step and I sincerely hope that this discussion will lead to and be instrumental in ending the murders not only in Gauteng but also in the rest of the country,” Van Staden said. The FF Plus will determine the agenda for the discussion, probably inviting organizations like the AfriForum to join in. Van Staden finally confirmed that this will not be a once-off discussion but rather that the FF Plus will ensure that the dialogue continues by agreeing to further dates.
Premier of the Gauteng Province, David Makhura will meet farmers on November 16 to discuss rising farm murders.
SANCO Sedibeng condemns allegations of sexual misconduct by Emfuleni Municipality Mayor! The South African National Civic Organization (SANCO) in Sedibeng welcomes the removal of the Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Simon ‘Sy’ Mofokeng, calling him an alleged perpetrator and gruesome pedophile. “SANCO further welcomes the appointment of Robert Thema as the acting mayor of this troubled and bankrupted municipality. We pledge our full support to work with him and the collective he will be serving with,” said SANCO Sedibeng Regional Deputy Secretary, Freda Mahommed. The controversial ANC Sedibeng Regional Chairperson came under fire recently for sharing on a social media group, by mistake, a picture of a semi-nude girl believed to be 14 years old and in a relationship with Sy. He has not yet responded to these gross allegations. However, as much as the local SANCO branch welcomes the ANC Gauteng decision, they say the decision was long delayed and too little too late. “The evidence of inappropriate sexual interaction with a minor is glaringly undisputed. Our meeting with the family confirms the
above. We wish to thank the family and commit ourselves to continue to give them support in every possible way. W e salute the family for their steadfast position to fight side by side with SANCO to realise the goals of a society where school girls are seen as school girls,” said Maohmmed. The publicly shared information on victimization of the girl leading to the family obtaining a protection order after the family laid a complaint with the police is unforgivable as it confirms similar historical conduct surrounding the perpetrator. “We must openly state that the ANC cannot be talking about the Eye of the Needle, but refuse to use the document to guide it. We expected that the leadership of the ANC Province to also live up to the expectations of the Eye of the Needle, when dealing with a leader that has lost her or his way. The ANC Province is quick to lecture everyone about what they expect from leaders, but when called upon to exercise their leadership they lack assertiveness. Lack of decisive actions when the Alliance sent two memoranda on corruption, poor
services and moral decay and no actions taken over a year.” When the semi nude picture of the innocent girl found its unfortunate journey on social media before and after the 30th November 2017, SANCO Sedibeng engaged progressive structures and civil society in Sedibeng who included the following organisations, COSATU, ANCWL, ANCYL, SASCO and activists who led the support programme to the family of the alleged victim to discuss the road map to defend Women and Children in the face of this inhuman imposition against our own vulnerable members of society
They say the reported case of attempted bribery by an Emfuleni municipality employee directed at the family must be investigated as it is indicative of the style of totalitarianism that characterizes known activities that were left unattended for far too long in Sedibeng. “We call on communities to support our call for a Sedibeng free of predators and corruption. We will continue to give support to the family and to ensure that the department of education and all relevant authorities play their part in the welfare of the child,” said SANCO Sedibeng Regional Deputy Secretary, Freda Mahommed in a statement.
The meeting and consultations made have strengthened the resolve to call on the ANC to suspend the Emfuleni mayor and remove all mayoral functions and municipal resources attached to the functions. SANCO further said that the suspension must be followed by an ANC organizational disciplinary process and the SAPS must be given all the support to conduct a thorough investigation without delay or political interference.

R50m FIRE STATION OPEN TO THOKOZA COMMUNITY!
ABOVE: Officially declaring the Thokoza fire station open by reading the plaque from the left is MMC Vivienne Chauke together with the chairperson of the community safety oversight committee Alderman Izak Berg and the acting head of Disaster and Emergency Management Services in Ekurhuleni Sam Sibande. Left:The Newly built state of the art Thokoza fire station. The spread of wild fires ravaging communities will now be a thing of the past with the newly built Thokoza fire station set to extinguish them effectively. On Friday, November 03, 2017 Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral Committee Cllr Vivienne Chauke handed over the R50 million state of the art fire station to serve the community of Thokoza and Katlehong. It will also respond to high risk Alrode in-
dustrial area which has potentially flammable petrol depots in the vicinity. The fire station was constructed over two years and provided employment opportunities for 66 local labourers and six local subcontractors. Its continued presence will also contribute to the general upliftment of the Thokoza area. “The community must protect and defend this facility. We have spent a lot of money to
bring development and employment opportunities for the people of Thokoza. It is therefore important that we look after resources that belong to the community,” MMC Chauke said. The fire station replaces the old smaller structure which had three fire engines and three ambulances. The new structure fully equipped with a new water tanker, a major pumper, rescue pump-
er, medium pumper and four ambulances. There are now five fire engines and four ambulances. This equipment will enable the fire station to respond faster to emergencies and cover a wider area. The fire station also runs community awareness training programmes to empower them on dealing with emergencies and practical steps to take in case of fires.
Sir Richard Branson Coronation of Ethiopian Royalty! is opening GEW 2017 in Johannesburg on November 10th! On 2 November 1930, after the death of Empress Zewditu, Tafari Makonnen was crowned Negusa Nagast, literally King of Kings, rendered in English as "Emperor". Upon his ascension, he took as his regnal name Haile Selassie I. Haile means in Ge'ez "Power of " and Selassie means trinity—therefore Haile Selassie roughly translates to "Power of the Trinity". Haile Selassie's full title in office was "By the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, King of Kings of Ethiopia, Elect of God". This title reflects Ethiopian dynastic traditions, which hold that all monarchs must trace their lineage to Menelik I, who was the offspring of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. Haile Selassie was known as a child as Lij Tafari Makonnen. Lij is translated as "child", and serves to indicate that a youth is of noble blood. His given name, Tafari, means "one who is respected or feared". L ike most Ethiopians, his personal name Tafari is followed by that of his father Makonnen and rarely that of his grandfather Woldemikael. His Ge'ez name Haile Selassie was given to him at his infant baptism and adopted again as part of his regnal name in 1930.
Sir Richard Branson, founder and chairman of the Virgin Group, will officially open the 10th anniversary celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week by participating in the launch of a new startup campus in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the 10th of November 2017. The campus, 22 ON SLOANE, is the first one to be opened by the Global Entrepreneurship Network – offering direct and virtual support services to entrepreneurs throughout Africa as well as access to an international network of mentors, investors and entrepreneurial support organizations. “The speed at which entrepreneurs are springing to life is faster than ever before. Africa’s next generation of entrepreneurs – with the right support and resources – can reshape the continent,” said Sir Richard. #22onsloane #gew2017
With the passing of the previous empress Zewditu, Tafari himself rose to emperor and was proclaimed Neguse Negest ze-'Ityopp'ya, "King of Kings of Ethiopia". He and his consort, Menen Asfaw, were crowned on 2 November 1930, at Addis Ababa's Cathedral of St. George. The coronation was by all accounts "a most splendid affair", and it was attended by royals and dignitaries from all over the world. Among those in attendance were George V's son the Duke of Gloucester, Marshal Franchet d'Esperey of France, and the Prince of Udine representing the King of Italy. Emissaries from the United States, Egypt, Turkey, Sweden, Belgium, and Japan were also present. British author Evelyn Waugh was also present, penning a contemporary report on the event, and American travel lecturer Burton Holmes shot the only known film footage of the event. One newspaper report suggested that the celebration may have incurred a cost in excess of $3,000,000 (R45 million). Many of those in attendance received lavish gifts; in one instance, the Christian emperor even sent a gold-encased Bible to an American bishop who had not attended the coronation, but who had dedicated a prayer to the emperor on the day of the coronation.
Haile Selassie introduced Ethiopia's first written constitution on 16 July 1931, providing for a bicameral legislature. The constitution kept power in the hands of the nobility, but it did establish democratic standards among the nobility, envisaging a transition to democratic rule: it would prevail "until the people are in a position to elect themselves." The constitution limited the succession to the throne to the descendants of Haile Selassie, a point that met with the disapprobation of other dynastic princes, including the princes of Tigraiand even the emperor's loyal cousin, Ras Kassa Haile Darge. He immediately set about modernising the Ethiopian systems of governance, education, and industry. However, the tensions that he encountered while ascending the throne, would haunt his reign for the rest of his life. Ethiopia was occupied by Italy. Despite transgressions some have claimed Selassie committed during his reign, the position he occupied, as an African leader of an empire that claimed a pedigree older than most European empires, gave hope to many African countries seeking to cast off the yoke of Colonialism. To Ethiopians, Haile Selassie has been known by many names, including Janhoy, Talaqu Meri, and Abba Tekel. The Rastafari movement employs many of these appellations, also referring to him as Jah, Jah Jah, Jah Rastafari, and HIM (the abbreviation of "His Imperial Majesty").
“Obey your thirst”
‘Home’ for Young Addicts Open!
John 4:15 The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never get thirsty nor have to come [Continually all the way] here to draw.
Lesedi Local Municipality Community Service Department and Sedibeng District Municipality have opened a new initiative called Vumelani Abantwana Home. This organization seeks to help young people and children dealing with drug addiction. Drug abuse is one of the biggest challenges facing young people in the area. Alcohol, Dagga and nyaope addiction lead the list as the top three prevalent drugs. The community of Ratanda needed a place like this; homes for young people that will let them deal with their addiction in a different
manner than adult-patient care programs of SANCA. Prayers were given to each drug user that came to the opening ceremony, led by Apostle Valashiya of the Elshama Church. Vumelani Abantwana home allows youth to like partaking in music, gumboots, drama and in poetry this will help them to take their mind of bad things and do well with their lives. Community activist Mlungisi Ngwenya delivered motivating talk at the launch. As former user himself, he had some wise words for the young victims on how they can get help when faced with addiction issues.
In The gospel of John we find a story of the Samaritan woman who went on to fetch water for her house, upon her arrival she met Jesus, little did she knew that she had just met her destiny. The conversation began soon after Jesus asked her for a drink and she resisted, this was merely because of the animosity between her tribe and the Jews, nevertheless Jesus persisted (Jesus will always be at the door of your heart waiting for you to accept him). The crux of the story is that this woman was looking to get water that would only satisfy her physically and temporarily, but Jesus wanted to give her the living water that will satisfy her internally and make her whole. The woman was jumping from one relationship to the other thinking that maybe her thirst would be quenched or satisfied. It was such a thirst that alcohol, sex, money, promotion, fame or drugs could satisfy. After her encounter with Jesus, she was delivered and her internal well was filled to the brim, she went about spreading the good news about Jesus Christ and how he changed her life. Many of us are looking for satisfaction, contentment and joy in wrong places, which we eventually end up being disappointed. Like the Samaritan woman maybe your internal well has dried up and you have nothing left to give, Jesus can fill your well and make you whole. The things of this world will please you for a while as they are not permanent in nature, only Jesus can satisfy you. Obey your thirst, let him lead and receive him as Lord and saviour. Prayer: Lord come to my heart, heal me from past hurt and negative experiences, make me whole and satisfy my thirst, Amen Shalom
Pastor T.S Mohlahlo
“Drug addiction remains a societal problem...”
The excessive use of Nyaope, a drug commonly known as highly addictive in South Africa continues to be a problem amongst its youth. This is a low-grade cocktail that comprises of heroin and other ingredients mixed with dagga. According to the United Nations World Drug Report 2017 (Market Analysis of Synthetic Drugs), “…there are an estimated minimum of 190 000 premature deaths from drugs.” A study by the Eden Recovery Centre revealed that cannabis is the dominant substance of abuse in Gauteng. As such, more needs to be done by the Gauteng Provincial Government to strengthen prevention and awareness campaigns to educate communities about the effects of substance abuse. Certainly so, the prevention and treatment of substance abuse is complex and requires an integrated approach. We therefore need to applaud the joint efforts by the Gauteng Department of Social Development and Ekurhuleni Metro-

politan Municipality to convert the old Palm Ridge Municipal Health Care clinic into a substance abuse community day clinic to increase accessibility of treatment interventions. This partnership will see yet another substance abuse community based day clinic being launched at Alra Park, Ekurhuleni on the 10th of November 2017. The Gauteng Department of Social Development is the lead department with the responsibility to administer the Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act, 2008. This act makes provision for development of programmes, the establishment, registration and management of treatment centres. As such, the department prioritises the implementation of these interventions to reduce the harm caused by the use of drugs in the province. These interventions include the establishment of inpatient, outpatient and community based treatment services.
,
Let us note that during the 2016/17 financial year, the Gauteng Department of Social Development reached more than 5700 service users through 19 funded out-patient treatment centres. More than 3800 beneficiaries received treatment through 11 in-patient substance abuse treatment centres. We also need to highlight that in the same financial year, 20 Community Based Services reached 10924 beneficiaries and the prevention programmes, including the Ke Moja prevention programme, reached more than one million beneficiaries. Indeed the fight against Nyaope remains a challenge in our society as more young people remain hooked, but it is the role of everyone to ensure that communities are informed on the dangers of drugs and that government treatment centres are there to offer rehabilitation and after care programmes to recovering users so that they do not relapse.

COLOURFUL ARTWORKS ADORN THE SPRINGS ART GALLERY ! For the next few weeks, the Springs Art Gallery is embellished with a mixture of colourful paintings, mixed media, collages and collections. This comes with the solo exhibition of local artist Pat Sithole from KwaThema. His exhibition, “Slice of Life”, opened on Saturday, 4 November 2017 and will run until 22 December. Art lovers in attendance marveled at Sithole’s unique artworks created using soft pastels art, acrylic on canvas and on paper and newspaper as a collage. He describes his works as aninterpretation of the past, present and future as continuous events. “My work talks about reality, I draw objects to depict the conditions in which we live. I like drawing old objects as part of representing history. I believe that history can never die because it is within ourselves, and depends on us and how we handle it. It also reveals to us who we were and are today.” Sithole has pieces of his work included in the collections of ABSA, City of Ekurhuleni and many other public and private collections. Admission is free and you can visit the exhibition during the gallery’s operating hours, which are weekdays from 09h00 – 16h00 and Saturday from 08h00 – 12h00. The gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.

World Rugby recommends Mzansi as 2023 host!
On Tuesday, October 31 the World Rugby has recommended South Africa as the preferred country to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup tournament.
World Rugby made the announcement of the Rugby World Cup (Ltd) board’s recommendation for the host candidate on Tuesday, following the assessment of a team of 10 World Rugby, Rugby World Cup Limited relevant-area managers and independent area experts, working since 1 June 2017. Other countries bidding to host the tournament are Ireland and France. World Rugby will announce the
final decision on the host of the 2023 Rugby World Cup on 15 November 2017. Welcoming the announcement, Sport and Recreation Minister Thulas Nxesi described as a “great and historic day for South African Rugby”. “This was packaged as an economic bid. It largely pays for itself; it boosts sports tourism and economic activity and it creates jobs. We also said that the bid was a ‘triple win’ for the players, for World Rugby, the fans and indeed for our country,” Minister Nxesi said during a media briefing.
