Ama-Panya-Panya are Become a school teacher through bursary now Peace Officers The Funza Lushaka Bursary, an annual bursary scheme organised by the Department of Education, has opened for applications for the Teaching Bursary. The bursary scheme aims to address critical educator shortages in specified subject areas such as mathematics, science and technology in various school phases by providing bursaries to prospective teachers. The department of Basic Education is expected to introduce new subjects such as coding, robotics and data analytics in primary schools, and teachers will be trained in these subjects.
In a significant development, Premier Lesufi has expressed his satisfaction with the recent announcement granting ama-Panya-Panya, or the Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, Peace Officer status. The move comes following the designation by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, in accordance with section 334 of the Criminal Procedures Act, 1977. The Crime Prevention Wardens, colloquially known as 'ama-panyapanya' or 'Panyaza Police,' play a crucial role in maintaining law and order in Townships, Informal Settlements, and Hostels (TISH) areas spanning 361 wards across the province. Their responsibilities include ensuring police visibility, responding swiftly to incidents, gathering community intelligence, preventing damage to public infrastructure, and collaborating with schools to provide necessary support and response. The Gauteng Provincial Government had made a formal request in June 2023 to the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, seeking the designation of the Crime Prevention Wardens as Peace Officers. He started dancing in 2009 as a street dancer and managed to break barriers. This year, Motha was a finalist in the Britain’s Got Talent show where he dazzled the world with his performance. Ripples of Change: Shabalala's vision for accessible clean water for all In the heart of South Africa’s innovation landscape, Zama Shabalala is making waves with his commitment to clean water solutions.
Recognized with the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South African award for innovation and technology in 2022, Zama’s journey took a transformative turn when he became the CEO of Blue Still Water, a company born out of a profound experience during his internship at The South African Breweries (SAB). While at SAB, Zama’s stellar work as a senior laboratory microbiologist/technician earned him accolades, but a critical moment changed the trajectory of his mission. Witnessing the devastating cholera outbreak in Tshwane earlier this year, he realized the urgent need for clean and safe drinking water in South Africa, even in developed regions like Gauteng. Determined to address this crisis, Zama and his team at Blue Still Water introduced a game-changing solution—an automated Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification
system. This system is designed to purify municipal water in suburban areas or groundwater from boreholes, directly targeting the source of waterborne illnesses that plague communities.
The mission is ambitious but impactful. Zama aims to install at least five of these RO systems in disadvantaged communities across the country, starting with a modest goal of one system, which comes with a price tag ranging from R120,000 to R150,000. The Blue Still Water RO system stands out for its cost-effectiveness and durability, producing semi-alkaline water with low Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), all easily monitored on an LED display. To turn this vision into reality, Zama and his team are actively seeking funding. The funds will cover the setup costs, expansion to a larger workspace, and essential marketing efforts. Beyond the immediate impact of clean water, the project holds the
promise of transforming lives by generating employment opportunities and fostering positive change in communities. Zama Shabalala’s journey from Ivory Park to the forefront of water purification is a testament to the transformative power of dedication and innovation. Join him in this mission to provide clean and safe drinking water to South African communities, one RO system at a time. Shabalala leads the charge through 420 Logan and Blue Water, headquartered in Midrand.

Money-Making Ideas for Festive Hustlers: Kasi Edition 2023 The festive season is a time of joy and celebration, but it also offers an excellent opportunity to boost your income and make some extra money. For South Africans living in townships, exploring creative and short-term money-making ideas can provide a financial boost without a significant upfront investment. There’s more to the Township Economy than tuck-shops and car washes. In this article, we'll explore a few unique suggestions and introduce five additional ideas to help you maximize your earning potential during the festive season Blanket-Washing Service: With the temperatures rising higher and higher, many people are looking to freshen up their blankets and winter gear. Offering a blanketwashing service can be a lucrative venture during the festive season. You can set up a small washing station and charge a reasonable fee for cleaning blankets, comforters etc. Advertise your service through word of mouth, local community boards, and social media platforms to attract customers. Errand-Running Service for Elderly and People with Disabilities: The festive season can be a busy time for many, and some individuals may find it challenging to run errands, especially the elderly and people with disabilities. Offer your assistance by providing an errand-running service. This could include grocery shopping, picking up
medications, or even delivering holiday gifts. Advertise your services at local community centers, churches, and through social networks to reach potential clients.
Pet Grooming Services: As people prepare for festive gatherings, many pet owners want their furry friends to look their best. If you have a passion for animals, consider offering pet grooming services. You can set up a temporary grooming station in your backyard or offer a mobile service, providing services like bathing, grooming, and nail trimming. Advertise through local pet shops, veterinary clinics, and community bulletin boards to attract pet owners looking for festive grooming. Freelance Writing or Reporting for Local Newspaper/Blog: If you have a way with words, freelance writing or reporting for local newspapers or blogs can be a rewarding gig. Many local publications may be looking for extra content during the festive season. Pitching story ideas or submitting articles on local events, traditions, or even holiday recipes can earn you some extra cash. Reach out to local editors, and consider creating a portfolio of your work to showcase your writing skills. Uber or Delivery Service with Vehicle: If you own a vehicle, consider offering Uber or delivery services during the festive season. Many people will be attending holiday parties or hosting gatherings, and they may need reli-
able transportation or assistance with delivering goods. Sign up with local ride-sharing or delivery platforms, and promote your services on community notice boards and social media platforms. Gift Wrapping Services Offer your gift-wrapping expertise to individuals who may not have the time or skills to wrap their presents. Set up a small station at local markets or shopping centers and charge a fee for wrapping gifts. Advertise your services through social media and local businesses. Additional Money-Making Ideas: • Holiday Decorations Installation Service • Photography for Festive Events • Tutoring or Homework Assistance • Holiday Catering Services • Social media manager or content creator for local businesses • Becoming Santa or the elves to entertain the kids on Christmas The festive season is a time of opportunities, and with a bit of creativity, you can turn your skills and resources into a source of extra income. Whether you choose to provide a blanket-washing service, assist with errands, groom pets, write for local publications, or offer transportation services, the key is to market yourself effectively within your community. By exploring these short-term money-making ideas, you can make the most of the festive season and enjoy both the celebrations and the financial rewards.

WINNER OF 2019 GAUTENG SPORTS AWARDS: Community Media of The Year
Banyana Banyana Star Janine Van Wyk Shines in Record-Breaking Farewell
In a stunning conclusion to her illustrious career, Banyana Banyana star Janine Van Wyk made headlines this week by breaking the African record for the most caps. The South African senior women’s national team captain not only achieved this milestone but also played a pivotal role in securing qualification for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The African champions secured their spot in next year’s WAFCON in Morocco by defeating Burkina Faso 2-0 (3-1 on aggregate) at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Monday (December 4). After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Côte d’Ivoire a few days prior, coach Desiree Ellis’ charges sealed the deal with goals from Linda Mothlalo and Nicole Michael. Van Wyk, who earned her 185th cap, received a well-deserved standing ovation from her teammates. This landmark achievement also meant she surpassed the record for the most caps (men and wom-
en) on the continent, previously held by Egypt legend Ahmed Hassan for over a decade. Reflecting on the milestone, Van Wyk emphasized the team's collective effort, stating, "It wouldn’t have been a joyful one without a win and qualifying for another WAFCON. It was not about me but the whole team." Expressing gratitude for the support, she added, "Overall, this has been the cherry on the cake after a great career for me, and a great moment for me reaching this milestone. What better way to do it with the national team at home." Acknowledging the challenges faced throughout her journey with Banyana Banyana, Van Wyk highlighted the significance of fulfilling childhood dreams, saying, "There have been many ups and downs, but these are the moments that one strives for and to achieve every single dream that you have planned out for yourself from a young age, and just reaching this last one is a great fulfillment for me. So thank you for all the support."
