Association and networking plays a vital role in our lives. As much as we have good plans for our lives, aspire to become great and achieve more for ourselves together with our loved ones; and yet we still spend most of our times with people who do not hold similar values as us. When we read content daily that do not represent who we aspire to be or doesn’t add value to our lives, then we will end up not achieving what we have planned.

Over 250 000 TVET certificates ready for collection! The Department of Higher Education and Training says over 250 000 National Certificate Vocational NC (V) for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges have been administered and cleared by UmalusI. Department spokesperson Madikwe Mabotha said the department has been working tirelessly in collaboration with college management, the State Information and Technology Authority (SITA) and the quality assurer Umalusi in a massive mop up project to clear outstanding NC (V) certificates for TVET colleges going as far back as 2007. “Since last year, the department has managed to process and release large volumes of pending NC (V) certificates on a weekly basis to
colleges. So far over 250 000 certificates have been administered and cleared by Umalusi,” said Mabotha. Furthermore, Mabotha said, all the November 2016 TVET college examination results have been certified in accordance with national policy requirements for the issuing of certificates within three months of the publication of results. These exclude additional certificates that are still pending due to procedural irregularities such as data capturing errors and authentication of identity numbers and other personal information. “All the backlog and current certificates have since been dispatched and distributed to in-
dividual TVET colleges. Students are advised to approach their colleges to verify the availability of their certificates and, if not available to immediately lodge queries with college management. “Colleges are expected to immediately report queries on certificates directly to the department for further investigation, where after affected students will be notified by their respective colleges on the outcome of their queries,” Mabotha said. Meanwhile, Mabotha said that the department has made substantial progress in a parallel project initiated to accelerate the issuing of outstanding National Diplomas, and it is expected that all applications received up until 31 March 2017 will be finalised no later than the end of July 2017. – SAnews.gov.za

GAUTENG INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT BRINGS HOPE TO YOUNG PEOPLE! 41 years since 1976 translated into youth skilling and job creation. With 2016 being declared the year of Oliver Tambo, who once said “a country that does not take care of its youth has no future”, the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID) commemorates this year’s Month with pride knowing that its programmes are contributing towards youth employment opportunities and skills development for thousands of young people in Gauteng. Millions of rands are spent every year on building infrastructure and bringing services to various communities and more than 2 800 young people of Gauteng, spread across the province have benefitted in the last financial year alone through their participation in programmes such as the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), National Youth Service(NYS) and Zivuseni.

LESEDI STATE OF THE MUNICIPALITY ADDRESS 2017 The Mayor of Lesedi has spoken. Cllr Lerato Maloka unveiled the State of The Municipality Address (SOMA) in front of a packed hall in Heidelberg, where the community joined councillors and stakeholders to listen to the plans made by the local government. Special guest included Sedibeng District Municipality mayor Busisiwe Modisakeng, district speaker Melina Gomba and PSL football player Lebohang Maboe amongst others. Guests were treated to a parade from the Tshwane Metro Police Department and members of the Lesedi Fire Department. A busy part of the main street of Heidelberg, Voortrekker road, was closed to allow the parade to proceed free from the traffic around the hall. This attracted the residents around the precinct to witness the spectacle from the Lesedi Fire and Traffic departments. The SOMA was opened by speaker Cllr Mluleki Nkosi, who thanked the council leader and the entire municipality in completing the cycle of the IDP (Integrated Development Plan) and Budget of Lesedi by hosting this event. He also set the stage for the executive mayor to address the people of Lesedi.
The theme of this year’s address is “The year of Oliver Tambo to explore developmental potential growing from small to big” was mentioned by the mayor. Inspired by the struggle and sacrifices of young people during the June 16 1976 uprisings, the mayor expressed her gratitude for their contribution to the liberation of black South Africans from the Apartheid regime. Another note of motivation, a poem by Maya Angelou called ‘I Rise’ was recited by the mayor saying: “Out of the huts of history's shame I rise Up from a past that's rooted in pain I rise I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise.” Top of her speech was the Mayor condemning all killings and abuse of the vunerable groups in society. The Namola safety app was promoted by the executive mayor: “The Namola app interfaces with a local alarm manufacturer allows poorer households in the community to benefit from the same crime-fighting technology as the more fortunate.
This technology is another example of how technology is being introduced that seek to protect the vulnerable women. This system has dramatically improved police dispatch times and accountability. It is the world's first “Uber for Police” system. I am pleading with all women to download this app.” Cllr Maloka emphasized the Municipality’s role in the Gauteng government’s programme for massempowerment of young people. “Our contribution in the Tshepo 1000 000 will be to organize the participation and involvement of the youth in all skills trainings and ensure mainstreaming. We will work very close with the provincial government to benefit our youth in the Gauteng at work programmes amongst other things,” she said. Highlights of the State of The Municipality Address (SOMA) for the 2017/18 financial year are: - The 2017/18 financial budget for Lesedi is R837 million - All community services tariff will increase as of July 2017 with only 6.4%. - The expanding construction work in Kwazanzele phase 2 and Impumelelo ext 3 will start in 2018, while the Obed Nkosi will start soon lead by ERWART on Lesedi’s behalf where an amount of 5.8 million will be spent.
- The municipality has a budget of R42 million on Indigent relief. - There is perpetual and exponential increase in the number of indigents. Through the Executive Mayor’s Indigent recruitment drive, there were 5100 applications, and approvals will take place in due course. - Aiming to listen, understand and build common approach to problems faced by Lesedi communities the mayor will continue the Operation Thuthukisa programme, supported by the Gauteng’s Ntirhisano outreach campaign. SARS makes 2017 tax season easier with eFiling! The 2017 tax season will open for individuals on 1 July, and SARS has released some handy tips and information to make the process pain free for taxpayers. In preparation for tax season, taxpayers can start gathering all the supporting documents that are needed to submit tax returns. These documents include IRP5/IT3(a) certificates from one’s employer or pension fund; IT3(b) certificates for investment returns, medical aid contribution certificates and receipts; bank account details as well as retirement annuity fund certificates. Those who use eFiling to submit their tax returns will be able to do so when tax season opens on Saturday, 1 July, while those who file their returns at South African Revenue Service (SARS) branches will be able to do so from 3 July onwards. If you are a registered taxpayer and have forgotten your 10-digit tax number, you can easily find it on your IRP5 form or on the SARS Income Tax workpage on eFiling if you're a registered eFiler. For those who want to switch to eFiling from manual filing, they can register for eFiling on https://secure.sarsefiling.co.za/loggedon_default.
asp?reg=1.
If taxpayers need help eFiling, they can click on the Help-You-eFile icon and a SARS agent will help them. The revenue service has advised taxpayers who will be filing their returns at branches to bring all documents applicable, as well as the original proof of identity such as an ID, passport or driver’s licence. In addition to preparing to file their returns, taxpayers must check that details on their IRP5 form -- which discloses the total employment remuneration earned for the year of assessment and the total deductions -- is correct before attempting to submit the return. The same verification also applies to medical aid contribution certificates. Not everyone needs to submit an income tax return to SARS if the total salary earned during 1 March 2016 to 29 February 2017 for the 2016/2017 year of assessment is not more than R350 000 (before tax). This is provided that you only have one employer. However if you have two employers or income sources e.g. late spouse/partner pension income,
exam markings income, rental income and moonlighting income among others, you will need to file, even if the total is still under R350 000.
Accurate claims
The revenue service has urged taxpayers to ensure that they have the correct documents and proof for every claim they make. This is by using only information and figures that reflect on supporting documents as well as using only the amounts reflected on contribution certificates (retirement annuity fund, income protection scheme, medical aid etc). SARS has also urged taxpayers to make sure they keep an accurate logbook and do not fabricate kilometres travelled or inflate the value of vehicles.
Honesty on returns
Taxpayers should also remember that overstating the number of dependants or expenses for medical claims is a criminal offence. In addition, taxpayers should not overstate their out of pocket medical expenses, as SARS will ask for receipts.
Deadlines
The deadline for non-provisional and provisional taxpayers submitting their tax returns manually through the post or at a SARS branch drop box is 27 September 2017. Meanwhile, the deadline for non-provisional taxpayers submitting their returns via eFiling or electronic filing at a SARS branch is 24 November 2017. The deadline for provisional taxpayers using eFiling is 31 January 2018.
Beware of Scams
Taxpayers should not be fooled by scams asking for their personal information, as SARS will not request a taxpayer’s banking details in any communication received via post, email or SMS. The revenue service will not send taxpayers any hyperlinks to other websites, including those of banks. However for the purpose of telephonic engagement and authentication purposes, SARS will verify your personal details. Should taxpayers require further assistance, they can call the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 7277 or visit their nearest SARS branch.
