The Gauteng Provincial Government has visited the community of Vosloorus, south of Ekurhuleni, to check on the progress made by government in regards to service delivery. Premier David Makhura led his team of MECs and the City of Ekurhuleni officials to the new developments in the

areas. Informal settlements like the Vumbuka section were visited. “Vosloorus is one of the most developed townships in the province,” said Premier Makhura during the Ntirhisano community meeting on Thursday, May 10. The community in attendance were restless then the Premier said this, some argu-

ing that that statement might not be factual. It was a fully packed Vosloorus Stadium, with residents from all around the township coming to hear what government has in store for them. Also, this gave residents an opportunity to voice-out their concerns and problems with the officials. Challenges faced by the

Vosloorus community include high levels of unemployment, crime, stormwater and the mushrooming informal settlements surrounding the township. City of Ekurhuleni executive mayor Mzwandile Masina said the community of Vosloorus is included in the City’s plans. “We promised

Earlier today, we took the premier and his team to the new development in extension 28, where the municipality is working together with national and provincial government to provide dignified houses,” said Masina. Electricity Supply has been restored in Jameson Park!

Households and businesses in Jameson Park, east of Heidelberg, have been surviving without electricity for more than a week after thieves stole the area’s electricity cables recently. It is reported that one of the suspect is recovering in hospital after being electrocuted during the substation robbery. “The Jameson Park area lost its power supply due to two stolen cables that supply the area with electricity, these stolen cables were supplying electricity from both Eskom and the Municipality. This is a major power supply interruption, we have already made means of procuring new cables, we further request residents to be patient as we are doing our level best to restore power,” said Lesedi Local Municpality in a statement. Both Eskom and Lesedi Electrical Technicians are already on site working to fix and restore power to the remaining affected areas. Municipality condemned these criminal tendencies and appeals to all local communities to report such acts to the SAPS or to the Municipality. Lesedi Local Municipality thanked residents for their patience.

LALA NGOXOLO CREMATORIUM REOPENED Work to service the newly installed furnaces for cremations at the Lala Ngoxolo crematorium in Crystal Park has been completed. On 26 January 2018, the City of Ekurhuleni took the decision to temporarily close Lala Ngoxolo crematorium due to growing technical issues with the newly cremators. “Following thorough inspection conducted by the contractor appointed by the city to install and service the cremators, work was completed on Wednesday, May 2, and the facility is now ready for service,” the city said in a statement. Furthermore, to provide a lasting solution, the city has bought eight ventilators, four of which were installed on last month. Residents who wish to use the services of the Lala Ngoxolo crematorium can do so by booking with the cemetery officer on 011 999 7460, during weekdays from 08:00 to 15:00 at R500 per cremation.

Germiston building ablaze on FireFighters Day!

Ekurhuleni Firefighters responded to the emergency of a multi-storey building that caught fire at the corner of Park Road and Garden street in Germiston. The day of the incident coincided with the International Firefighters day in honour of the global firefighters who lost their lives while on duty. But the local firefighters managed to put out the fire with no fatalities. On arrival at the scene, the middle storey of the three levels was well alight and flames protruding through the windows spreading to the upper level as well. According to Disaster & Emergency Management Services spokesperson, William Ntladi, the cause of the fire originated from a electric double plate stove that was left unguarded while cooking. “The entire floor caught alight because of wooden

material used for partitioning. A total of 22 rooms burnt to ashes fuelled by number of LPG cylinders which exploded during the active firefighting operations. No casualties or fatalities were accounted for because of the blaze.” The scene was handed over to the Police for further investigations.

Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) would like to encourage members of the public to memorise local emergency numbers to have effective service delivery during life threatening emergencies. “The challenge encountered on scene was members of the public who attempted looting the shops at the ground floor and that interfered with our smooth operations hence law enforcement had to be called for safety purposes,” said Ntladi.

FOUR SUSPECTS RELEASED ON WARNING FOR EXCAVATOR USED IN ILLEGAL MINING IN BRAKPAN! On Saturday morning (May 5), the EMPD Brakpan Precinct officers got a tip oﬀ about an excavator that was digging holes at Plastic Village close to Main Reef Road near the Brakpan dumping side. "The metro police responded swiftly to the tip off and on arrival found four men including the operator of the excavator digging holes within Plastic Village. The excavator was confiscated and all four men who are South Africans residing in Brakpan and suspected of illegal

mining had their personal particulars taken and later released on a warning," said the EMPD Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred M. Kgasago. Chief Superintendent Kgasago also said thst the four suspects, all in their mid-fifties, claimed that they had hired the excavator from an individual whose particulars were provided to the metro police. The men stated that the actual digging started on Friday morning. The confiscated excavator tractor was taken to the EMPD pound.

Balfour Campus host TVET Choir Competition! On Saturday, May 5, Gert Sibande TVET College Balfour Campus held its first choir competition at the I.M Manchu High School. Students showed off their capabilities in singing solos, mezzo, tenor, baritone & quartets, mixed western & mixed vernacular, poetry, drama, hip-pop dance, pantsula dance, gumboots, pencil drawing and brush painting. The purpose of the competition was to select a winning choir that will represent Gert Sibande provincially with other TVET Colleges. Balfour Campus competed against Standerton Campus, Perdekop Campus, Evander Campus, Ermelo Campus & Sibanesetfu Campus. Furthermore, the aim is to motivate and grow students in the persuasion of their talents by participating in various categories. Campus Manager (Ms Zine Beku) couldn’t

resist holding her emotions with her opening remarks by appreciating the committee for having confidence in Balfour Campus to host such an incredible and noticeable event. Mr M Mbethe (Sports, Arts & Culture Chairperson) made positive remarks about executing such a great event, he later thanked the committee responsible. Participants and choristers braced themselves from hearing final results from adjudicators, as each choir and groups from all categories had a tight head to head battle. The Balfour Campus gave a mega show down of brilliant performances and celebrated four trophies in: Female voice, Male voice, Tenor and drama. However, the Sibanisetfu Campus were the overall winners to represent Gert Sibande provincially. Our most appreciation goes to our Choir Conductor Mr Thulani Thulare for his contribution to this triumph.

The Gert Sibande TVET College annually hosts an annual student event that seeks to establish and encourage a variety of extra mural activities for student participation, and this year was no diﬀerent. Extra mural activities such as speed typing, spelling bee, debates, public speaking, quiz, Mathematics and Science & innovation competition all recently took place at the Balfour Campus. The overall winners will be selected to represent the Balfour Campus in the G.S College TVET provincial inter campus competitions, facing other campuses from the Mpumalanga district. Because students have diﬀerent gifts and talents, these extramural activities give them a platform for those that cannot take part in other sporting codes in the campus.

Gauteng adopts smart tech to fast track infrastructure projects! Gauteng Infrastructure Development MEC Jacob Mamabolo on Tuesday (May 8) unveiled the province’s multi-billion rand project portfolio to be delivered in the next three years. The portfolio is made up of 340 projects valued at about R4.5 billion, with R1.7 billion being allocated for the 2018/19 financial year. Speaking at a media briefing to unveil the project portfolio, MEC Mamabolo warned that during the delivery of the projects, under-performance and poor quality will not be tolerated. To ensure that projects are carried out, MEC Mamabolo said his department will use drones to monitor progress at the various sites of construction. MEC Mamabolo said the pressures posed by rapid urbanisation

and migration have resulted in the escalation of demand for social infrastructure services such as schools, libraries, health facilities and community centres.

“As the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), we are proud to say that the last two years have been the most testing as we laboured to explore long term solutions to resolve construction and implementation challenges. DID has now officially moved away from classifying projects based on the traditional practice of size and costs to include other critical indicators needed for efficient management of the project life circle and successful delivery to beneficiaries. In the past, it was not easy for stakeholders to clearly monitor projects under implementation. Project information was also inconsistent making it extremely dif-

ficult for the department to be held accountable. Those days of working in the dark are now over. We will no longer experience the back-and-forth movement of projects, which were often placed on the business plan yearafter-year without any significant progress. “We have had to roll up our sleeves and put down systems and processes that would prepare us for the future,” MEC Mamabolo said. The MEC has assured that all the pipeline projects were subjected to the Project Readiness Matrix (PRM), an innovative tool designed by the department, to assist in the assessment of all the critical and stage specific Infrastructure Delivery Management System (IDMS) requirements, before projects are considered for inclusion in the pipeline. - Mapepeza Reporter

The newly elected SACP Gauteng Province Officials were unveiled at the 12th provincial congress of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in Gauteng in Benoni recently. Despite the surfacing of threats to the life of their General Secretary Blade Nzimande, the congress went on successfully. Over 500 delegates from around the province gathered for the two day meeting which ended on Sunday, May 6. The newly elected structure is as follows: Provincial Secretary: Jacob Mamabolo, Provincial Chairperson: Joe Mpisi, Provincial Treasurer: Khosi Mabaso, 1st Deputy Provincial Secretary: Mpapa Kanyane, 2nd Deputy Provincial Secretary: Sekete Moshoeshoe, Deputy Provincial Chairperson: Mandla Radebe. The congress concluded with the SACP Gauteng adopting a set of resolutions based on the outcomes, and seeking to implement those of the 14th National Congress.

Hard work pays off for Themba! YOUNG EKURHULENI GRADUATE JETS TO CHINA!

eaving behind a life of struggles, poverty and perseverance, young Themba Shabalala has boarded is his flight to China on Friday (May 4), where he is going on a scholarship. Themba (23), gave an emotional farewell to Mamsi Ndlalani, his mentor and former teacher at Reshogofaditswe Secondary School in Tsakane in Ekurhuleni. Ndlalani kept him motivated throughout the hard times when he experienced in his schooling days as a young boy raised by an alcoholic single mother.

As a result, Shabalala mainly was supported by the school. Teachers would take turns buying him food and toiletries. He also spent a year staying at a friend’s place after his mother kicked him out of his shack, and later compelled the family who took him in to also expel him as well.

“Shabalala is proof that God can do wonders only if you believe in him. No circumstance is beyond God’s power” says Ndlalani.

But Mamsi Ndlalani was touched by what Shabalala achieved in his life; considering that he wrote his matric exams homeless until one of his class teachers, Patronal Twaya, took him over and stayed with him in her place in Kwa-Thema. The two teachers who played a major role in shaping the life of Shabala, were too emotional when giving him a send-off.

Shabalala from Kwa-Thema in Springs (City of Ekurhuleni), was not a top learner in the class. Even after studying hard would still get an average pass mark. However he managed to study harder while studying by NSFAS at Ekurhuleni East TVET College, he got himself a scholarship to China, where he will study Electrical Infrastructure and Construction at Zaozhuang University. He’ll spend a year in China, where he will study for six months at the Zaozhuang University and do apprentice for another semester. On Friday, May 4, the Tshepong Stimulation Centre hosted their annual pageant where the new Miss & Mr Tshepong were crowned. The community of Katlehong attended their ceremony in their numbers to watch the youngsters strut their poses. Organizers of the pagent and founders of Tshepong Stimulation Cente, Mr Thabo Moshatane was delighted the event went on successfully. The Tshepong Stimulation Centre is a private health care centre for children not older than 13 living with disabilities. The organization has trained, caring and dedicated staff who help the kids according to their special needs. The centre is located in Katehong township. Miss Tshepong is the beautiful Palesa Selepe. Katleho Hlatshwayo was crowned the new Mr Tshepong.

Lehlaleroe (19) started modelling while still in Grade 9 at the age of 14 at Tholulwazi Secondary School. She believes that if all young people can identify what they are passionate about and put their minds into it, their lives would change for better. “Though there are few platforms and activities available to inspire young people to pursue their dreams, it’s still upon them to make better of what is at their disposal,” says Lehlaleroe. Africa 2018 that will take place on December 15. She says this contest will change her life to better if she wins. Wearing Miss Eagle’s crown would simplify her mission to empower young people with knowledge and positivity. VOTING HAS STARTED FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS REGIONAL ANNUAL SPORTS AWARDS (RASA 2018) Voting has begun for The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5, the third edition of Regional Annual Sports Awards (RASA 2018), scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on 26 May 2018, hosted by South Africa at the Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg. Stanley Mutoya, the AUSC Region 5 CEO says he is excited to see the RASA brand grow the manner in which it has since its inaugural edition in 2016. “Today we have 9-member countries taking part in the third edition, a serious growth because in 2016 we only had 5-member countries taking part. This is an indication that we have a good product to commercialize and know the corporates in our region will be keen to partner with us.” As per the AUSC Region 5 Awards Rulebook, the primary mandate of the AUSC Region 5 is to encourage all ten-member countries to host national sports awards preceding the RASA. FC Barcelona and Sundowns to clash at FNB Stadium! On the day which marks 24 years since the inauguration of the first democratically-elected President Nelson Mandela, it was announced that Barcelona FC and Mamelodi Sundowns FC will play a friendly match. Chairperson of the InterMinisterial Committee on the centenary of Nelson Mandela, Jeff Radebe, made the announcement in Johannesburg on Thursday (May 10), saying the match forms part of events to mark what would have been Madiba’s 100th birthday. The friendly will be played at 6pm at FNB Stadium on 16 May. Minister Radebe said the two teams will follow in Madiba’s footsteps of uniting people across regions and continents. “As the IMC, we would like to congratulate the cooperation that has been displayed in the hosting of this game

between the football authorities of our country, and the management of the two teams,” he said. The Minister believed Mandela would be happy where he is, that his name is being appropriately linked to an effort that united people across the oceans. He said the celebration of such an icon as Madiba, should not be limited by costs factors. Tickets for the clash are on sale, starting at R40 up to R550.

“Both teams are recognized as champions in their continents and their leagues, and despite the misfortune that has befallen Barcelona to Roma last Tuesday, South Africans will be delighted to see their heroes in action. South Africans fall in love with and love their sports icons through thick and thin.” On behalf of the IMC, he wished the teams well.

Kaizer Chiefs were crowned the first champions of the Multichoice Diski Shield Cup. The Amakhosi Under-16 side defeated Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 at Makhulong Stadium on Saturday. As winners, the team donated R150 000 cheque to Emshukantambo High School from Pimville Soweto courtesy of Multichoice Diski Shield tournament. The Kaizer Chiefs Under-16 coach and team legend, Arthur Zwane has expressed his excitement for winning the inaugural trophy. Fans have expressed their views that "10111" must be head coach in the coming PSL season. Twitter user @Clementclemi tweeted to Chiefs: “If you were taking us serious, you were gonna promote Arthur zwane and his boys to senior team, only for one season and see what they can bring.”
