Gauteng settles outstanding payments to NPOs! The Gauteng Provincial Government has concluded all outstanding payments to Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) funded by government. Gauteng Department of Social Development said the delays were as a result of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) not being signed with NPOs due to non-compliance by the majority of NPOs with SLA provisions. This in turn led to budgets being released late to the regions. In a statement issued by the Department of Social Development on Tuesday, the department confirmed that a total of 1 411 SLAs have been signed to date, with 2 273 expected to be signed in total. Social Welfare Services
Deputy Director General, Onkemetse Kabasia, said a total of 955 signed SLAs have been paid since April and May 2018, and the remaining 456 are en route to department’s finance unit. “The finance unit has processed a check run, which will see a total amount of R61 million paid to 456 NPOs by close of business on Tuesday,” Kabasia said. All signed SLAs must be tracked and submitted to finance by no later than today for payment. “There is a weekly tracking that is submitted every Friday, which is intended to assist with monitoring of the SLAs and payments. The tool will be updated per region, per NPO to include the reasons the SLA has not been signed or payments made,” Kabasia said

RAMADAN - A month-long celebration! Ramadan is a special month of the year for one billion Muslims throughout the world .It is a time for inner reflection, devotion to God, and self-control. Muslims think of it as a kind of tune-up for their spiritual lives. From the many benefits of fasting, the most important is that it is a means of learning self-control. Due to the lack of preoccupation with the satisfaction of bodily appetites during the daylight hours of fasting, a measure of ascendancy is given to one’s spiritual nature, which becomes a means of coming closer to God. As a secondary goal, fasting is a way of experiencing hunger and developing sympathy for the less fortunate/ and learning to thankfulness and appreciation for all of God’s bounties.
The month of Ramadan explained Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim
Lunar calendar. It is during this month that Muslims fast. It is called the fast of Ramadan and lasts the entire month. Ramadan is a time when Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives. It is a time of worship and contemplation.
Fasting during the month of Ramadan
During the fast of Ramadan strict restraints are placed on the daily live of Muslims. They are not allowed to eat or drink during the daylight hours. Smoking and sexual relation are also forbidden during fasting. At the end of the day the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called iftar. The fast is resumed the next morning as with other duties in lslam, fasting becomes obligatory(i.e. one becomes accountable) after the age of puberty.
The good that is acquired through the fast can be destroyed by - the telling of lies, slander, denouncing someone behind his back, a false oath, greed or covetousness. These are considered offensive at all times, but are most offensive during the fast of Ramadan. Thus one of the objectives of this month for Muslim is to purify himself/herself from ill characteristics that are within one. A spiritual cleansing through a physical action is what is intended . During Ramadan, it is common for Muslims to go to the Masjid(Mosque) and spend several hours praying and studying the Quran (the book of God). In addition to the five daily prayers, during Ramadan Muslims recite a special prayer called the Taraweeh prayer(Night Prayer). the length of this prayer is usually 2-3 times as long as the daily prayers. Some Muslims spend the entire night in prayer.

Maritzburg United central midfielder Lebohang Maboe also known as “Tso or Cheezy” has recently been nominated for the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Season at the PSL Awards. This is Maboe’s (23) first Absa Premiership season and playing in good form. Since joining the team, he has helped in securing a top eight position and hopes he can continue his good form on the field. Before Maboe, the team’s performance in the previous season almost got them relegated. His form during the Nedbank Cup, where they reached the finals and lost to Free State Stars, was undoubtedly one of the best. The soccer maestro was born and grew up in Ratanda, south of Gauteng. During this season, he was named ‘Man of the Match’ in December last year against Pirates. He was also voted ‘Reader’s Player of the Season’ by Soccer Laduma’s readers earlier this year. He is nominated alongside team mate Siphesihle Ndlovu and Free State Stars’ Nyiko Mobbie.

‘Win over Mozambique due to preparation’ Senong! Amajita thrash Mozambique to edge closer to AFCON qualification Head coach of the Burger-King sponsored Amajita, Thabo Senong, says their 3-0 victory over Mozambique in the second leg second round of the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers boils down to good preparation.
the end of the day football is about results.”
The South African U20 Men’s National Team brushed aside the Mambinhas at Moruleng Stadium near Rustenburg on Sunday (20 May 2018) to win 4-1 on aggregate.
Goalkeeper and captain, Khulekani Kubheka was also in fine form as he saved a penalty in the match, something Senong says was expected.
The first leg ended with a 1-1 draw. “Well done to the boys, they worked very hard to score the three important goals because we always knew that Mozambique will be a difficult team to beat as they are a quality team, so we needed to make sure that we convert our chances as early as possible and make sure we dominate other areas of the game like setplays, our defending and the transitions,” said Senong. “It all boils down to good preparation and we have always believed in the boys and in what we are doing. But I believe with more time this team can be much better than this. With the limited time we had, we focused on the important aspects so that we can get results, because at
Midfielder Wiseman Meyiwa opened the scoring in the 9thminute before striker Lyle Foster chipped in with a brace in the 32nd and 66th minutes.
“Again I say preparation is key – we worked on penalties and set-plays the entire week. All our goalkeepers in the squad are always ready to help the team in critical phases of the match, even in penalties – and we were not surpirsed when Khulekani saved that penalty because that is what he has been doing at training, he looked confident,” added Senong. South Africa will now face Malawi in the third and final round of the qualifiers, scheduled for July. The overall winner will qualify for the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Niger – where they top four countries at the 8-nation event will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, which will be held in Poland.
