Legendary Kwaito artist Mduduzi Tshabalala, better known as Mandoza passed away on Sunday, September 18 on the way to hospital. Mandoza suffered from a brain tumuor and underwent cancer treatment during the last moments of his life. His last performance (pictured) was in his hometown Soweto during the Thank-You SABC Concert.

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma has joined the nation in mourning the passing of kwaito legend Mduduzi Tshabalala, better known as Mandoza. He paid tribute to him, saying South Africa has lost one of its pioneers whose music appealed to a cross section of people, young and old. Mandoza was aged 38 when he passed away on (September 18) after a battle with cancer which had reportedly spread to his brain, leading him to lose his sight completely. “It is a great loss to the nation and we wish to extend our deepest condolences to his wife Mpho, his family and hordes of fans.

R.I.P MANDOZA ISGELEGEQE S’FOCUS!

Mandoza will be sorely missed. May his soul rest in peace," said President Zuma. On behalf of Gauteng, Premier David Makhura also extended sincere condolences to the family of the late Kwaito music legend. “His dedication and commitment to his craft saw him grow from humble beginnings into a household name. On behalf of the people of Gauteng and the provincial government, I extend our condolences to the family, friends and the entire entertainment industry,” said Makhura. Mandoza first entered the music industry with the kwaito group Chiskop, which he

formed with three childhood friends, S’bu, Siphiwe and Sizwe. He went on to launch his solo career in 1999 with the album 9II5 Zola South and became a household brand for the Kwaito music genre. However the height of his career was achieved with well-known hit, Nkalakatha which was released in 2000 - which most say broke cultural barriers. He last performed live at the South African Broadcasting Cooperation’s (SABC) Thank You Concert at Orlando Stadium in Soweto two weeks earlier. May his Soul Rest in eternal Peace!

CITY LAUNCHES PLAN TO BOOST TOURISM!

Written By JACOB MOLETE

IN celebration of Tourism Month this September, the City of Ekurhuleni hosted the first ever Ekurhuleni Tourism Conference to launch five year Ekurhuleni Tourism Strategy. This plan aims to boost the tourism sector towards socio-economic growth and development; thus promoting City as a major tourism and business events destination of choice. The Ekurhuleni Tourism Strategy seeks to nurture and aggressively facilitate investment in key tourism product development and marketing in the region, with a view to stimulate tourism development in Ekurhuleni, leveraging the advanced plans for the City to be an Aerotropolis and its related benefits. The strategy is based on four strategic cluster pillars to enable the Ekurhuleni to grow and develop the tourism

“The main objective is to accelerate growth for our township entrepreneurs through innovation and to promote smart city facilities for every profes-

sional institution to take innovation seriously,” MMC Xhakaza told delegates, exhibitors and inventors at the summit. As the City of Ekurhuleni continues to work towards its goal of building fablabs across Ekurhuleni, collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Fab Foundation is underway to ensure success in the establishment of the facilities. The partnership will aid the city as the initiative is aimed at accelerating skills development by bridging the gap of inaccessibility to facilities. Entrepreneurial mentorships and workshops are offered at the fablabs to guide inventors about the process of commercialising an innovation thereby allowing more young people to create practical and marketable solutions. The Match and Invest lounge opened on Thursday, September 22 with formal meetings with designers and delegates on a virtual platform pitching for investors’ time. On Friday, September 23 the Market on the Edge and Youth day begins with exhibitions of prototypes and new inventions presented novelties by designers. A hackathon team will over a 24- hour period get the opportunity to strategize code and brainstorm over the challenges provided to them at a pre-hackathon briefing. CELEBRATING IN TIMES OF MOURNING

outh Africa is my country - my people, the sons and daughters of the soil, haters and lovers of peace. The rainbow nation that was envisaged by Tata Nelson Mandela and his comrades is starting to show cracks. While we celebrate twenty years of the Constitution we must equally mourn the dying dream of our forefathers of South Africa– our Rainbow nation. It breaks my heart to see all the sacrifices made by all our people who were part of the struggle going down the drain. We still have a chance, not to correct the injustices of the past, but to do what is correct today, so we avoid a situation for corrections in the future. We have an obligation as citizens of this country to implement the Constitution, to save our Rainbow Nation from painful death. All of us – Blacks, Coloureds, Asians and Whites, have a duty to fulfil surely. Racism and hate is not part of it; but unity, togetherness, co-existence, tolerance and ubuntu are the correct ingredients. Today is the time for us: To unchain our hearts, to unchain our minds and receive freedom which will allow us to move South Africa forward as a Rainbow Nation. Like the great PAC leader Robert Sobukwe once said, “There is only one race, the human race.” We owe it to the generations to come, who will still need to survive
