Manhunt for Ackermans robbery suspects! Heidelberg Police are in the manhunt for three unknown suspects after Ackermans Clothing Store was robbed undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones. The incident took place at the Heidelberg CBD on Thursday morning, September 10. According to an employee, the first suspect came into the shop normally. After he sanitized both hands, the suspect pointed a firearm at the staff and were forced into the storeroom. Two more suspects came in kept guard while the robbery occurred. “The unknown suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from till machines and cellphones that were in the display cabinet inside the store and the cabinet at the storeroom, including recent delivered cell phones,” said police spokesperson Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate. On their way out from Ackermans, a security vehicle approached the shop. The car inﬂuenced the suspects to drop the bag carrying cell phones next to the exit door and ran away towards Strydom Street.

Father gets two life sentences for raping daughter! The justice system and hardworking police investigators have brought peace to an 18 year old girl who was raped by her biological father on Tuesday, August 26. The father received two life sentences during his appearance at the Palm Ridge Magistrates court. It is reported that back in January 2017, Pulani Sthole (who was still a minor then at 17 years old) was raped by her father, but due to fear and trauma she suffered she couldn't report the matter to her mother or open a case for her father. Instead she opted to committing suicide on many occasions to escape her ordeal. Six months later, she decided to tell her mother and the stepfather about the incident. A case was then opened as a result her story of trying to commit suicide had the story was on the front

Prisoners can now be visited!

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has reviewed its COVID-19 risk-adjusted strategy, with visits to inmates at the country’s correctional centres now permitted. “Inmate visits to correctional centres and remand detention centres shall be permitted under strict conditions, observing COVID-19 health protocols, as well as departmental Standard Operating Procedures,” said the department in a statement recently. This follows the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that the country move to alert level 2, effective from 18 August 2020. “It is critical for members of the public to observe that visits are limited to one noncontact visit per inmate per calendar month, and only one visitor per inmate at a time,” DCS said. According to the department, bookings must be pre-arranged at least 48-hours prior to the intended visit to ensure proper planning. “As a result, no visits will be allowed without prior appointment. Only visitors with face masks, as per the approved name list, will be allowed access.” Visitors must arrive at least 30 minutes pri-

Torching of Clicks stores ‘no way to resolve conﬂict’ -Govt Protests inﬂuence Clicks to commit to supporting small businesses

Government has expressed concern at the vandalising and torching of Clicks stores across the country, saying it goes against the spirit of peace and respect for human rights.

Freedom Fighters have heeded the call by their Commander in Chief to shut down all Clicks stores - from Monday, September 8 until Friday by protesting and prevent its opening. Meanwhile, the giant cosmetics chain has issued apologies for the offensive images but has also tightened up security to protect its staff and customers. Government said while it is equally disturbed by the crude racist display by the advertisement in question, acts of lawlessness, including vandalism and burning down Clicks stores, on Monday were of concern.

In a statement, government said it noted the public outrage following the Clicks advertisement, where black hair is portrayed as “dry and damaged”. Any claim of non-racialism that is devoid of impactful economic transformation actions cannot be acceptable,” Ntshavheni said. On Thursday, The Clicks Group, owners of Clicks stores and United Pharmaceutical Distributors (UPD), has committed to increase spending on small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and support local beauty, hair care brands and other products. Clicks Group Chief Executive Officer Vikesh Ramsunder made the undertaking during a meeting held with Small Business Development Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and a senior delegation from the department. Representatives from the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA) also attended meeting.

Youth, women and people with disabilities prioritised in land allocation The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Land Reform and Agriculture has reaﬃrmed its commitment to prioritise women, youth and people with disabilities in the allocation of land. The IMC emphasised its commitment during a meeting chaired by Deputy President David Mabuza on Friday, September 4. “Youth and women constitute the majority of our population, and together with people with disabilities, have long been economically marginalised. Therefore, measures adopted by our government in allocating land must place these categories of people at the forefront,” said Mabuza. At the meeting, the Deputy President called for humane yet decisive action by authorities and other land custodians in responding to the recent spate of illegal

land invasions. The meeting considered progress on the State Land Allocation plan, challenges including land invasions, as well as the Beneficiary Selection and Allocation Policy. The Inter-Ministerial Committee also considered two bills, namely the Land Court Bill and Expropriation Bill, for processing to Cabinet and finally Parliament. Reﬂecting on land invasions, the meeting mandated the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development to consider setting up an internal conﬂict resolution mechanism to allow government to amicably address land disputes, especially those related to land invasions. The Land Court Bill -- whose purpose is to enhance and promote access to land on an equitable basis, promote land reform as a means of redressing the effects of past discrimination and fa-

cilitate land justice in the country -- was also discussed. The meeting noted progress made and supported the submission of the Expropriation Bill to Parliament. The meeting also reﬂected on farm murders, which affects farmers, farm workers, farm dwellers and the rural communities alike. The meeting called on the police to take a preventative stance on farm murders by addressing underlying issues that lead to violence in farming communities. The meeting also noted that the issue of farm murders discourages aspirant farmers from entering the agricultural sector, thus threatening its sustainability and contribution to the economy. The IMC will discuss this matter further at its next meeting.

Food garden project launched to curb poverty in Lesedi As part of the provincial anti-poverty strategy roll out plan, the Gauteng Department of Social Development MEC Nomathemba Mokgethi launched a women agricultural food gardening project at Emmasdal Child and Youth Care Centre in Heidelberg on Wednesday, September 2. The primary objective of the launch includes among others to streamline women empowerment in agricultural sector, empowering 100% womenowned cooperatives, creation of job opportunities and promote effective and sustainable local economy participation.

The JOK Foundation recently donated a food parcel to a loving 57 year old mom Callina Mhlanga Mabhongo who hails in Sakhile township near Standerton, Mpumalanga. JOK Foundation is a non profit organisation aimed at changing the lives of the needy. Accoding the founder, John Oscar Kubeka, the family requested to get help. Fortunately their request was received by good hands, Princess Phungwayo and Pinky Makhubo who ensured that mama receives her food parcel. Callina expressed her appreciation for the food parcel and stated that it will assist the family during the lockdown.

Multi-talented Mpho leads the way!

Meet Mpho Nyambose, well known by his alias, Mphoza The Artist, hails from Ratanda township in Heidelberg.

The 22 year old is a visual artist, a musician and leads a youth choir group in his community. In his virtual interview with Mapepeza, Nyambose says it all started with his love for music at an early age. “What made me start singing is music. The harmony of it touched me in such a way that I wanted to become a singer. Luckily, God gave me a great voice. I established the group by grooming people who love singing, even if it was difficult but I finally did it,” he said. Now, The Beauty of Youth Choir is a locally recognized musical group in the Ratanda community. With almost 30 members, the group features young people who have mastered the choral arts in a short space of time. The girls sing Soprano and Alto, then the boys sing the Tenor and Bass. Initially, the group only performed Gospel, Choral and traditional music on local stages. Recently, a new album is on the cards and Mpho leads the project. “I've wrote more than 15 songs this year for the group. We only sang eight on the events, concerts and competitions since we started. Now we released our first single called ‘Ubuhle be Africa’,” he explained.

Beauty of Youth Choir has performed in many places around Gauteng, including the Lesedi Arts Festival, graduations, churches and more. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mpho admits that there have been challenges due to lockdown regulations preventing them from performing and practising. But he has technology at his disposal. “Its every difficult to push the work in this lockdown. I put the song on our WhatsApp group, then they all practice it. After that, they playback their recording to me doing the song, then I correct few of them. It requires lots of data but since we can't meet and practice there's nothing we can do. We meet once a week for meetings only, wearing masks following the laws,” said Nyambose. When he’s not leading his music group, Mpho also draws sketches of portraits for people. He is also the marketing director at the Sedibeng Million Magazine, a publication for talented individuals in his community.

The South African Community Radio Foundation (SACRF) has launched a ﬁrst-ever virtual Relief Fund Walkathon scheduled for Sunday October 25. Tickets are available from R135 for the 5KM edition of the event on championchip.co.za which is the official sports timing partner for the Comrades marathon. As they will be walking or running remotely, participants will receive an electronic race number upon registering and a certificate once they have completed their choice of event from the 5km, 10km and 21km editions. “Its important to highlight that while participants will receive certificates with their official time for the event, the most significant reward is being able to make a difference to thousands of volunteers,” says Phankha Sakoane, Founding Director of the SACRF. There are some 200 community radio stations in South Africa which operate under license from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) with a combined listenership of over 25 million. “We urge the public to support this initiative as we seek to lessen the burden on the community sector and help volunteers who are worst hit by the covid-19 pandemic,” adds Sakoane. “We will be working closely with the participating community radio stations to ensure proceeds from the event are used appropriately”. The Virtual Relief Fund Walkathon is one of many initiatives that the organisation has undertaken with the aim of enhancing the sector’s ability to serve the communities in which they broadcast. This includes an online auction which will take place between 24 September and 16 October as well as the inaugural Volunteer Awards scheduled for 5 December, International Volunteer’s Day.
