Gauteng Task Team visits NGOs to for prepare for the transfer of remaining mental patients!

A government task team led by the Gauteng Director-General in the Office of the Premier, Phindile Baleni together with the National Health Department DG, Precious Matsoso, has commenced work in preparation for the relocation of the mental health patients currently being cared for in various NGOs.

The representatives of the families were also part of the task team to ensure that families are part of the relocation process.

The team visited the NGOs to establish the correct number of mental health patients currently being cared for at the NGOs.

All this information will be critical in determining the correct steps as part of relocating the mental health patients.

In addition, the team will identify public health institutions that are well-equipped to care for the mental health patients.

This is in line with the Health Ombudsman, Professor Malegapuru Makgoba recommendations to Premier David Makhura following the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of mentally ill patients in Gauteng. Premier Makhura has assured the families and people of Gauteng that he will urgently implement the Health Ombudsman’s recommendations without any reservation or delay.

We are with his family in thoughts and prayers during this trying period. May his soul rest in peace,” President Zuma said on Friday. Premier Makhura said Tyamara was an amazingly talented artist who had an incredible voice. “Lundi’s dedication and commitment to his craft saw him grow from humble beginnings into a household name in the gospel industry. On behalf of the people of Gauteng and the provincial government, I extend our condolences to the family, friends and the entire entertainment industry,” said Premier Makhura. 2017 State of the Nation Address set for February 9

It’s all systems go for President Jacob Zuma’s annual address to the nation, which will be delivered during a Joint Sitting of Parliament on Thursday, February 9. The Presidency on Tuesday (January 31) said preparations for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) are continuing in earnest within government to ensure that the occasion is a success.

President Zuma has called the Joint Sitting of Parliament to deliver SONA 2017. The joint sitting comprises the two Houses of Parliament - the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces. As part of preparations on the side of the Executive, the President is expected to convene the Cabinet Lekgotla from Wednesday until Saturday in Pretoria to review the past year and discuss the priorities for the current year. The Cabinet Lekgotla follows the Lekgotla of the National Executive Committee of the governing party, the African National Congress (ANC), which sets the tone and direction for the Government Programme of Action each year, based on the organisation’s annual January 8 anniversary statement.

“SONA 2017 takes place during the year in which one of the key architects of the free and democratic South Africa, Mr Oliver Reginald Tambo, would have turned 100 years old, had he lived.

“In this regard, the deliberations in the Cabinet Lekgotla will be informed by the uplifting legacy of OR Tambo, based on building a truly united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa. “Discussions are expected to reflect strongly on radical socio-economic transformation to uplift the poor and the working class and to move the country forward to prosperity and true reconciliation, which is what OR Tambo strove for,” said the Presidency. The theme of SONA 2017 is The Year of Oliver Reginald Tambo: Unity in Action Together Moving South Africa Forward. SONA 2017 will communicate the outcomes of the Lekgotla as well as celebrate the legacy and values of OR Tambo, and will promote unity in action by all South Africans towards prosperity and radical socioeconomic transformation. MRM AND GAUTENG IFRASTRUCTURE SIGN PARTNERSHIP! ON Tuesday, January 31, the I Care We Care campaign was boosted by a partnership agreement between the Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) and the Department of Infrastructure Development.

MEC, Jacob Mamabolo, on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) with the MRM’s Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa. Speaking at the event Mamabolo said the MRM partnership was about taking the campaign to a new level and intensifying the outreach to communities across the province. “We are extremely happy that the MRM will now help lead and be a face of the campaign.

The next phase is about direct interaction with the people, going into communities and taking the pledge to protect property into the heart of communities, and enforcing the message that ‘destroying public properties impoverishes communities’. Mamabolo also pointed out that since the campaign was launched in Gauteng, there have been no incidents of property destruction in residential areas, communities or townships. The exception, he said, were a number incidents during student protests and the campaign, going forward, would also focus on engaging with student communities. “The MRM is a custodian of morality in our country, and protecting public property is a moral issue. It defines who we are as a people. We are confident that the MRM, through their extensive network, will help us broaden and

deepen our contact with our people.”

“We want to go beyond simply protecting and defending public property,” said Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa. “We should cherish and enhance the assets that we have as they are for the good of all. We will use our extensive reach to enter into dialogue with our people in communities, suburbs, townships and villages across Gauteng.” Mamabolo concluded by saying the campaign needed to “driven and led by the people” if it were to be successful in highlighting the protection of public property as a moral imperative. ‘The MRM will help us do that,” he said.
