Other allegations reported in the media that President Jacob Zuma wishes to fire Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and replace him with Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma are "preposterous and outrageous", according to the Presidency. “The allegations are completely baseless.

DOUBLE STRIKE! MAJOR STORES ACCUSED ON UNFAIR LABOUR PRACTICES!
The Cappunino’s staff in Heidelberg mall embarked on a strike on Wednesday, February 7 hoping to get a solution for the unjustified working conditions they have got fed up with. About 20 employees was involved in this strike, joined by their shop steward and SAFTU (SA Federation of Trade Unions) representative. The cafe staff claim that they have not been paid for the past 5 months, instead their remuneration was only in the form of the tips they made daily. Another claim is that the manager loans them their salaries when they face emergencies or need transport and lunch money. The manager said he is ready to go into talks to end the strike, but the staff want written confirmation as the person has proved to be untrustworthy.
Shoprite Heidelberg staff went on a strike on Monday morning (February 5), asking for their working hours to be extend from 32 to 40 hours per week. The small group, mostly casual staff, want the local Shoprite management to agree on permanent employment instead of the temporary contract. Some of the protesting workers said that management should take care of all staff and be treated fairly. The casual staff is reported to having their sick notes are rejected, and they give the affected employees short leave rather than a full leave. The protest was a short and no violence was reported.
SONA
postponed! Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete has announced that the State of the Nation Address (SONA) has been postponed. SONA, which was scheduled for Thursday (February 8), will no longer take place as scheduled. Mbete said on Tuesday, February 6 at a briefing outside Parliament that a new date will be announced soon. Presiding Officers had approached President Jacob Zuma to postpone the speech to allow room for the creation of a more conducive environment in Parliament. “We met the President today and he was already writing to us asking to postpone. We want a conducive political environment… We have been dismayed at anarchy of the past four years. Developments this year have caused us great concern…” Mbete said. In taking their decision, Mbete said Parliament had “looked realistically at developments that had taken place in the past week”. Last week, Mbete led a briefing of the Presiding Officers, where she announced that plans to hold SONA were set to go ahead. – SAnews.gov.za

Vopak Learnership Programme recruits local ladies! Our very own 10 best engineers in the making are about to put Ratanda on the map.
Ten candidates for the learnership programme by the international bulk liquid terminal company, Vopak, have been chosen. The programme is committed to providing training to young ladies in the most gender-biased industry. Vopak’s expansion in South Africa has led to them building a terminal in Lesedi which is the first major open access independent tank terminal connected to the New MultiProduct Pipeline (NMPP)
connecting the Durban port to Gauteng. The terminal will reduce the need for road transportation of fuel from Durban to Gauteng.

The managing director of Vopak in South Africa, Paul Cox has welcomed the selected young ladies that will be trained for a year in Durban in various engineering work. Sizwekazi George, MD of the consulting company for Vopak which facilitates the recruitment of the candidates, highlighted the terms and conditions of the programme. Each of the ladies must abide to the rules or otherwise face disqualification and be sent back home. “The candidate that we’ve selected must have good communication skills and must be matriculated with the relevant engineering qualifications,” she explained. Each candidate will receive a monthly stipend, accommodation, food and transport back home every two months. During the meeting, the candidates also took time to show their gratitude for being chosen for this great opportunity. “It’s a great opportunity, not for ourselves but for our families and the community back home. We are going to represent everyone in Lesedi,”said Nanikie. “We are excited and happy that one day we’ll see ourselves as operators and engineering. It’s a huge step in our career and our lives. We are very grateful,” added Mpho. The fuel storage plant will be in construction from this year and many opportunities will be open to residents in the Lesedi municipality and surrounding areas. Vopak Reatile will be constructing a 350 000 cubic metres of storage capacity in Jameson Park, Heidelberg.

The beginning of the year has seen an effort to increase public participation through various modalities by Ekurhuleni Legislature. More recently, Oversight Committees embarked on “Taking Committees to Communities”. This programme sought to start a forum of engagement between communities and oversight committees to enable a better understanding of what happens in oversight committee meetings. The programme aims to educate and create awareness about the work of Council Oversight Committees to the identified stakeholders, provide information on the performance of the municipality which would in turn enrich stakeholders’ ability to provide feedback. Also, the meetings allow residents to freely interact with members of the oversight committees and build relations for possible future interactions on service delivery. The public meetings took place from Thursday, the 1st and Tuesday, the 6th of February, with MPAC’s (Municipal Public Accounts Committee) Public Hearing set to sit on Friday morning,

February 9 at the Germiston EGSC Building. The second phase of such programmes will be rolled out in June 2018, where mass public meetings will be held to advance the same efforts on a larger scale. Through the Separation of Powers framework and the South African constitution, public participation remains a pillar in ensuring good governance. Mapepeza attended and observed the Community Safety public meeting held at the Nigel Council Chambers on Tuesday, February 6. The proceedings were led by Cllr Vivienne Chauke, Ekurhuleni MMC for Community Safety and Cllr Izak Berg (S79 Oversight committee member for Community Safety). The councillors took tuns in interacting with residents on their concerns of safety in their homes and properties. They also explained in detail the work of the oversight committees in holding the executive council accountable in government’s commitments to the people.

ISHASHALAZI AUDITIONS ATTRACT EKURHULENI TALENT! Artist line-up for spot in Gauteng annual Festival! After the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation made a call to emerging artists involved in poetry, and theatre to audition for being part of the 60 contestants, who will compete on the Ishashalazi Provincial Festival, artists from Kwa-TsaDuza (Kwa-Thema, Tsakane and Duduza) responded. They came in numbers to fill up the Monty Motloung Hall to showcase their art work and performances on Saturday, February 3. The judges and audience of community members were spoiled with raw talent by over 30 performances throughout the whole day. “Our aim is to create a platform to develop and expose talent. We have prizes for dance, theatre, and poetry - this is just to show artists that the department recognizes and appreciate their positive contibution in our society. We’ll also fund the best dance group from the festival to rep-
resent Gauteng in Italy at the International Dance Festival later this year,” says Andrew Makhaya, Deputy Director of Theatre and Dance from Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. Makhaya added that Ishashalazi Provincial Theatre Festival will run from February 20 until 27 February this year in Daveyton.
Prizes such as R10 000 for poetry, and R 15 000 for drama and dance respectively would be awarded to the best productions. “We’ll also fund the best theatre production to represent Gauteng at the National Art Festival in Grahamstown on June this year. It is our mandate to see art develops fully in Gauteng, and that young artists have a stage for their talents to blossom,” said Makhaya. “I’m waiting eagerly for the call to notify me if I made it. The competition was tide considering that auditions took part throughout five regions in Gauteng, Duduza being the last to host them as they started from Thembisa last year,” said Thabiso Ntanda, a poet from Duduza (pictured). “I believe I did my best. Even if I don’t make it to the final 60. I’m proud of my performance,” said Ntanda. -Story by Bheki Julius Radebe

The Roles of Freedom Park Interfaith Committee, by Kgomotso Lekalakala Specialist Researcher at Freedom Park the National Heritage Destination. Freedom Park’s interfaith Committee also work with other stakeholders like the Missing Person’s Task Team (MPTT) from NPA and the TRC unit in the spiritual repatriation programme. The spiritual repatriation only takes precedence when the bodies of the deceased cadres cannot be found but the MPTT has identified the exact place where the said cadre(s) met their untimely death(s). Rituals are then performed at those sports to collect their spirits and lay them at Isivivane; which will be their last spiritual resting place.
For example, if the family of which the spirit needs to be repatriated is Buddhist, then Freedom Park calls on the Buddhist representative to come and lead in the performance of the spiritual repatriation in accordance with the Buddhist spiritual method of repatriating the spirit(s). If the said family follows Islamic faith, then the Islam’s’ representative from our interfaith committee will be called upon to lead in the repatriation of the spirit(s), but involving the whole interfaith committee members to give support to their committee member(s) leading the ceremony.

60 DISADVANTAGED TSAKANE LEARNERS RECEIVE NEW SCHOOL UNIFORMS A learner dressed in full school uniform is even more motivated to stay in school. Ekurhuleni’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Waste Management Services, Cllr Ndosi Shongwe, today brought a smile to scores of disadvantaged learners when she handed out new school uniform hampers as part of the “MMC BACK TO SCHOOL PROGRAMME”. Sixty learners from Tsakane Primary School received hampers donated by the office of the MMC in partnership with the Department of Environment and Waste Management Services’ service providers. The hampers included a pair of school shoes, white shirt, grey pants, tunics, school bag and jersey. One of the recipients, a Grade 4 learner, could not contain her excitement when she received her uniform hamper from the MMC, “Thank you so much Ma’, the uniform looks good on me,” she said. MMC Shongwe further encouraged the learners to study hard and take care of the environment within the school premises. “Every child has a right to education, to be cared for and to be kept at a safe environment and to be treated fairly,” concluded Ndosi.
The repatriated spirits are then laid at Isivivane as their final spiritual resting place.
This process of spiritual repatriation is only done if the family members are also involved as they play a critical role in the repatriation of their family members’ spirits. The families are also expected to guide the Freedom Park interfaith about their family believe systems so that relevant faith within the interfaith committee could be used to repatriate the spirit(s). MMC for Environment in the City of Ekurhuleni, Cllr Ndosi Shongwe helps one of the learners to put on her new school uniform at Tsakane Primary School.

The health benefits of Coconut oil
One of the very few foods that kills more than 5-birds-with-one-stone is none other than coconut oil. Nothing is harder than trying to shed pounds in the most wrong places in our bodies, but eating coconut oil can make that a little easier. It boosts your metabolism, giving you more energy throughout the day.
The powerful anti-microbial properties play a huge role in freshening breath. Coconut oil is good for face cleansing, moisturising and it also functions as a sunscreen. The fatty acids in coconut oil such as caprylic and lauric reduce inflammation internally and externally and moisturise, making them a great solution for all types of skin conditions. It also acts as an anti-aging agent.
Your digestion improves when you consume coconut oil, allowing nutrients to absorb from the food you eat. It also builds muscle in addition to weight loss. Coconut oil helps regulate appetite in the most effective way by leaving you fuller for longer after you consume it, that way you won’t need snacks or meals every now and then.
Do you have dry hair or dandruff ? Coconut oil has the perfect fatty acids to help improve these conditions. It balances your hormones, improves type 2 diabetes, and improves memory and brain function. You can take coconut oil in various ways; use it for all your cooking and baking, put a tablespoon of it in smoothies, put it in your coffee or tea, or have a tablespoon of it daily. You can also put it directly on your skin or hair or mix it with your moisturisers.
Do your body a favour and stop eating when you are full and ONLY eat when you are hungry. We tend to shy away from topics about bad breath, but it’s something we all should face; it’s real but we can overcome it. Bad breath can be caused by oral bacteria which exist naturally or it can be caused by acidic foods.
A tablespoon of it can change your life.

EXCITING SOCCER ACTION AT THE ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE!
The Gauteng stream of the SAFA ABC Motsepe League continued this past weekend with some scintillating action across the province. Friday evening (February 2) saw Alexandra United gaining a vital three points away to African All Stars FC to maintain second spot and keep the pressure on log leaders Maccabi FC with a 0-1 win at Tsakane Stadium. Saturday’s mid-day matches kept up the intensity as M Tigers FC and Baberwa
FC fought out a 1-1 draw at Chloorkop in a mid-table clash, while Tembisa Sports Centre narrowly edged Ga-Rankuwa United 1-0 at Scongweni. United threw everything at the home side but still languish at the bottom of the table and look to be serious relegation candidates. United now sit with a -26 goal difference while Tembisa crawled further up the table towards safety and into 14th position. Afternoon
action
saw
pace-setters Maccabi showing their true metal in Springs with a hard-fought, entertaining 2-3 victory at Valencia FC to cement their number spot for at least another week. With 32 goals to their name and having only conceded 11, they remain the best strike-force as well as defensive unit in the league thus far. George Thabe Stadium played host to Vaal Professionals and Pretoria Callies as the home side came away with a crucial 1-0 win while Alexandra Black Aces FC
welcomed Dube Continental FC to the Greek Sports Club. Both teams truly put on a show with Aces finally showing some potency in front of goal to claim an important 2-1 win and climb up the table. The afternoon’s final fixture had Dondol Stars comfortably beating home team Leruma United in Daveyton to enter the top four and condemn United to 15th spot. Saturday evening was set up for a tantalising ‘top 6’ clash between hosts JDR Stars and Swallows FC at Pilditch Stadium as the home club hoped to keep up the pressure on the top two teams. The fixture simply did not disappoint and eventually ended in a 1-1 draw which both coaches would probably have taken before kick-off. The second half of the season simply seems to be getting better as we enter the business end of proceedings. Can Maccabi maintain their top spot or will teams such as Alexandra United hunt them down? Only time will tell as we look forward to the next round of fixtures. - SAFA
