LESEDI AERODROME TO CREATE JOBS! “At first I was a bit terrified of this long needle that was going to be embedded into my arm. But it happened so quickly, so easily. It was just a prick on my flesh and I really did not feel much pain.” These were the words from President Cyril Ramaphosa who was among the first to get the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, together with Health Minister Zweli Mkhize and healthcare workers in Khayelitsha on Wednesday, February 17. After taking the vaccine, the President addressed the media saying this was milestone for South Africa. “This day represents a real milestone for us as South Africans that finally the vaccines are here and they are being administered. I was rather pleased that there were five people who were vaccinated before me and they are health workers,” said Ramaphosa. More on vaccines inside...
Beware of crooked commuters! The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) has received numerous calls of victims claiming that they were robbed while commuting in the taxi. According to the EMPD, the incidents happen while people are moving from place to place. A lady in her late 20s claimed that she took a taxi in Dinwiddie area, near the Reef shopping Mall on January 23. She
was on her way to Germiston when she fell victim to the crime. “As the white Toyota Quantum minibus taxi, with five male occupants including the driver was in motion, four passengers took out dangerous weapons (a knife & the firearm) and started assaulting her. She was robbed her jewelry, a cellphone and in the purse, she had R450 cash and a bank card. A banking App on her cellphone was
accessed and R1000 (as a daily limit), was immediately withdrawn/transferred by crooks, before she was dropped off injured and disoriented after two hours, on the side of the roadway in Primrose area, by the cemetery,” explained EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

Gauteng welcomes taxi violence commission report!
The Gauteng Legislature Roads and Transport Portfolio Committee has welcomed the conclusion of the Commission of Inquiry probing taxi industry related violence in the province. The Commission was appointed by Premier David Makhura in

The South African Police Service (SAPS), EMPD Taxi Task Team and other Law Enforcers, are investigating both incidents.
“This is suspected to be a syndicate of thugs, since cash disappears, even when you are in possession of your bank cards, following the ordeal,” said officer Mokheseng. Another incident took place on Friday, February 5 in Katle-

Acting committee chairperson, Petrus Mabunda, said: “The success and efforts made this far from setting up the commission of inquiry to its conclusion - now
rest on the departments concern and their implementation plan. The commission’s recommendations have a profound effect on behaviours and attitudes.” He said the provincial Department of Roads and Transport should give itself the best possible chance of making changes on the basis of the findings of the inquiry, and it must be held to account for doing so. The committee said it will on a regular basis play a significant scrutiny and oversight role in holding the department to account on its implementation progress derived from the inquiry report’s findings and recommendations.

BY: BHEKI JULIUS RADEBE The South African Classic Action Sport Unit (SACASU) will host Ekurhuleni Bodybuilding Interactive Championship, (EBBIC) as an annual program to educate young men to refrain from abusing women and children. EBBIC is fully funded by National Lotteries Commission as an awareness campaign for novice bodybuilders to teach society about social - ills in a sport platform, while exposing and celebrate talent at the same time. EBBIC will be conducted as a competition for novice bodybuilders to showcase their talent. Educational material and different speakers will share positive messages discouraging Gender Based Violence (GBV) behaviour in between the program. Prices ranging from money, trophies and medals would be issued to top ten contestants. The South African Classic Action Sport Unit focuses on grooming young people in karate, boxing and weightlifting - this includes establishing gyms, clubs and maintaining them and support those that are already existing.
“We believe that sport can be utilized as an effective tool to spread positive dialogue for a Gender Based Violence Free Community,” says Portia Matlaka, SACASU chairperson. “Sport can stimulate change of behaviour among young men in our communities to influence for a healthy lifestyle and positive mindset, hence our motto says: Positive Living Breeds Positive Mindset,” Portia Matla added. Young men who are involved in sport are disciplined and positive minded. Positive living is a lifestyle where people adopt training as a way of life. We are inspired by how Chines infiltrated the culture of Kung Fu from generations to generations. They utilize Kung - Fu to promote a culture of discipline among trainees. Our main goal is to observe a culture where community members do sport, either karate, boxing or weight lighting a hobby, explained Portia Matlakala. EBBIC will take place on April 17 at the Duduza Library in a Live Stream on Facebook and YouTube with all Covid -19 regulations observed.
New committee for Sedibeng Sports Confederation! MAPEPEZA SPORTS REPORTER Leaders from different sporting fields were convened in a meeting called by the Gauteng Sports Confederation (GSC) to give birth to a new Sedibeng Sports Confederation interim committee. The meeting took place in Vereeniging’s President Park on February 17. “Sedibeng has for the past four years been lacking committed and knowledgable sports administrators. This vacuum has led to dwindling facilities and sport activism in the area,” said Isaac Khithika. However, according to Khithika, due to the intervention of the GSC, there is a glimmer of hope for the troubled sporting body. Sedibeng has now an interim committee which headed by Mr Xolani Mathumbo, who is also the convenor. Fakazile Nkitseng was appoint-
ed as the coordinator, including eight additional members coming from all corners of the region. This interim leadership is tasked with ensuring smooth running of sporting activities endorsed by government across all sporting codes and ensure structures of sport are built and functioning properly, amongst other mandates. Formerly known as the Sedibeng Sports Council, the rebranded Sedibeng Sports Confederation was established in 2018. The organization is a regional body under the Gauteng Sports Confederation, made up of leaders from sports associations and federation across all three municipalities in Sedibeng. It is led by President Thabo Disco Phadime, along with two vice presidents and a diverse group of local sport administrators.
