Dear Reader, Here we are after a long summer vacation starting the season with more excitement for what to come. The beginning is with Qatar Motor Show 2018 which we will only witness again in 2020 as it will become a bi-yearly event instead of yearly. Our main story for this issue is filled with adrenaline and joy as we take the fastest production V8 Ferrari ever, the 488 Pista for a test drive on Fiorano circuit in Maranello and then for a ride on the mesmerizing Italian roads. A car that will make you shout “Mamma Mia!” Elsewhere, we embarked on a road trip in Oman to test drive Volkswagen first 7-seater SUV, the Teramont. Nothing was able to stop us at the Green Mountain (Jebel Al-Akhdar) in this family oriented car. We enjoyed the ultimate luxury once again with the Rolls-Royce Phantom and spent a day with the Mercedes-Benz E200 Coupe. A lot of car news and we at Maqina have some exciting news that you will hear about soon!

y armor’s maneuverable, fast, and lots of fun at parties,” – Tony Stark. In Stark-like fashion, Hyundai unveiled a special edition Iron Man-inspired Kona SUV on the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con 2018. We hope that everyone has just as much fun jumping into this one-of-a-kind vehicle as they would put on the actual Iron Man suit of armor!” On the outside, the Kona Iron Man Edition has a unique front-lighting signature, including a custom daytime running light form that closely resembles the facemask and eye shape of the Iron Man suit. This shape is immediately recognizable and is one of the key design inspirations for Kona. Besides the front fascia design and unique lighting signature, other Stark-like flourishes include an Iron Man mask motif on the roof, a unique V-shaped hood garnish, front-fender Iron Man mask badging, Stark Industries lower fascia and rear door decals, Iron Man-engraved headlamp internal surfaces, custom 18-inch alloy wheels with Iron Man mask center caps, an Iron Man engraving for the D-pillars, and a dark chrome front grille. The exterior color is an exclusive Iron Man red with matte gray. Inside, Tony Stark’s signature adorns the instrument panel alongside a unique Iron Man shift lever knob, a special Head’s Up Display and center stack featuring Iron Man visual graphics, and a custom seat design. The Kona Iron Man Edition is the latest project to emerge from the ongoing collaboration between Marvel and Hyundai. This summer, the all-new 2019 Veloster Turbo appears in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp. That integration was accompanied by a fully integrated marketing campaign that included new commercials and an interactive sweepstakes offering fans a chance to attend a pre-release screening of the film.

E-LECTRIC! JAGUAR CLASSIC WILL BUILD ZERO-EMISSIONS E-TYPES
F
GENESIS ESSENTIA CONCEPT COMPLETES WORLD TOURAT MONTEREY CLASSIC CAR WEEK & ALL-NEW G70 LUXURY SPORT SEDAN MAKES CONCOURS DEBUT
ollowing an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the original concept for ‘the most beautiful electric car in the world’, Jaguar Classic has confirmed it will offer all-electric E-types for sale. The news follows the iconic EV sports car’s successful debut in concept form at Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest in September 2017. Combining its restoration expertise with cutting-edge technology from the Jaguar I-PACE, the award-winning zero-emissions performance SUV, Jaguar Classic will offer tailor-made E-types restored and converted to electric power at the same Classic Works facility as its outstanding E-type Reborn restorations in Coventry, UK. An EV conversion service for existing E-type owners will also be offered. To preserve the authenticity of the base vehicle, the EV conversion will be fully reversible.Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic Director, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the Jaguar E-type Zero concept. Future-proofing the enjoyment of classic car ownership is a major stepping stone for Jaguar Classic.“E-type Zero showcases the incredible heritage of the E-type, and the expertise and craftsmanship at Classic Works, while demonstrating Jaguar Land Rover’s dedication to creating zero emission vehicles across every part of the business, including Jaguar Classic.”Technical specifications and pricing details will follow, but Jaguar Classic is now taking expressions of interest from potential E-type Zero clients. Deliveries of the first electric E-type vehicles are expected to start from summer 2020.
Jaguar E-type Zero concept The Jaguar E-type Zero concept not only drives and looks like an E-type, it also offers outstanding performance, with quicker acceleration than the original Series 1 E-type.Jaguar Classic is targeting a range in excess of 170 miles for all-electric E-types, helped by the car’s low kerb weight and sleek aerodynamics. The concept is powered by a 40kWh battery, which can be recharged in six to seven hours, depending on power source.Apart from its stateof-the-art powertrain, modified instrumentation and fascia showcasing the latest touchscreen infotainment (which will be available as an option), the E-type Zero concept is largely original. Efficient LED headlights complement the iconic Series 1 design. An electric powertrain with single-speed reduction gear has been specially designed for the E-type, utilising many Jaguar I-PACE components. Its lithium-ion battery pack has the same dimensions, and similar weight, to the standard E-type’s six-cylinder petrol XK engine and is in the same location. The electric motor lies just behind the battery pack, in place of the E-type’s gearbox. A new propshaft sends power to a carry-over differential and final drive. Using an electric powertrain with similar weight and dimensions to the outgoing petrol engine and transmission means the car’s structure, including suspension and brakes, has not changed, simplifying the conversion and keeping the driving experience in line with the original vehicle. It drives, handles, rides and brakes like an original E-type with front-rear weight distribution unchanged.

AAB LAUNCH LUXURIOUS AND DYNAMIC ALL-NEW 2019 TOYOTA AVALON IN QATAR MOTOR SHOW
D
elivering on its promise to introduce class-leading vehicles that meet and exceed customer expectations, Toyota has unveiled the all-new 2019 Avalon midsize premium sedan in the Middle East. Delivering an authentic driving experience that harmonizes with its stunning design and elegant luxury, the fifth generation of the brand’s flagship vehicle is set to redefine its class. Underpinned by a Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform and powered and enhanced by a new fuel-efficient 3.5-liter V6 engine and a host of comfort and safety features that are complimented by Toyota Safety Sense, the 2019 Toyota Avalon embodies consumers’ overarching desire for high-caliber, designcentric, and technologically-savvy modes of attainable and premium transportation. “Throughout development, we focused on the all-new Avalon being authentic and exhilarating,” said Randy Stephens, chief engineer of the 2019 Toyota Avalon. “One of the key components in getting there was the new platform and suspension. These underpinnings allow us to provide an unequaled foundation to deliver the performance that matches the styling and the technology while offering a fine blend of luxury and sportiness in the premium mid-size sedan segment.” “We really focused on bringing as much innovation to Avalon as possible. On many different fronts — from ride, to handling, to technology, to safety and more — this new generation really does take the brand to the next level. It offers luxury. Now, more than ever, it has sporty performance. But mostly, it delivers an authentic driving experience. We cannot wait to put it in the hands of our customers,” added Stephens.
24 ISSUE 13 / maqinaonline.com
Yugo Miyamoto, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, said: “We are excited to launch the all-new Avalon in the region, presenting our customers with an attainable premium mid-size sedan that features a daring design paired with a highly spacious, comfortable interior experience with an abundance of outstanding advanced features.” Miyamoto added: “The vehicle tops its segment with its dynamic performance, comprehensive safety features and engineering excellence – reflecting the aspirations of consumers in the region. We would like to extend our gratitude to our valued customers for their continued support and inspiration, which continue to motivate us to develop ever-better cars that exceed their expectations.” Since its debut in 1994 and subsequent evolution over four generations, the Avalon has come to be embraced by people around the world for its ride quality, comfortable and roomy interior space, as well as its high level of Quality, Durability, and Reliability (QDR). The car has established a strong presence in the premium mid-size sedan segment – both in the Middle East and globally – with total sales surpassing 1.5 million units. A host of progressive design elements cocoons Avalon’s long, low-slung TNGA musculature. Its expressive looks diligently reflect the mixture of all-encompassing, performance-focused personality, the invigorating driver experience, and a premium, spacious image. A design philosophy of ‘Technical Beauty’ permeates through the Avalon’s body lines and cabin landscapes. ‘Technical,’ which aligns with Authenticity, represents purpose and performance - the tangible elements of the sedan’s style.
‘Beauty,’ which aligns with Exhilaration, represents onlookers’ emotional reaction to Avalon’s stretched lines and sleek silhouette. Donning a cutting-edge design, the all-new Avalon expresses its distinguishable personality, while embodying Toyota’s next-generation ‘Under Priority’ brand identity – a direction that prioritizes aerodynamic efficiency, cooling, and pedestrian protection. Stunning all-LED slim projector headlights speak to its sportiness and elegance. They complement the front end’s design, highlighting the aluminum hood’s longitudinal lines and lightweight build; the wide, modern grilles built for air-slicing sleekness; tangential vents at its lower portion crafted for the effective direction of passing air across the front tires and along the Avalon’s muscular sides and the door handles that coincide with its profile’s bold character line. Simple horizontal character lines slice across the backside, at the top, center, and lower portions. The all-new Avalon’s width, in effect, is highlighted substantially by this distinct sectioning. Connected LED tail lamps shaped in a three-dimensional, ‘aero fin’ style differentiate the landscape from the current iteration. They integrate backup, stop, and turn lights into a single harmonious, fluid form. Adding to its many class-leading features, the 2019 Avalon draws upon Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which represents an entirely new strategy to the way the company designs, engineers, and packages its vehicles, providing a comfortable and stable ride with superior handling characteristics. While retaining Toyota’s traditional values of superlative build quality and safety, the unique platform injects a fun driving experience that plays on all the senses. In addition, the new multilink rear suspension allows for the enhancement of many performance attributes, such as a wider rear track, lower center of gravity, and an aggressive stance. Drivers can also adjust Avalon’s ride feel with the simple depression of a button – Normal mode prioritizes comfort, while Sport emphasizes handling with tauter, highly responsive footing without diminishing Avalon’s celebrated ride suppleness. Complementing the all-new Avalon’s daring looks is a thrilling drive personality imbued by a new 3.5-liter V6 engine, which produces a maximum output of 298 hp and 356 Nm of torque and is equipped with the latest Direct Injection 4-Stroke Gasoline Engine Superior Version (D-4S) and Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide (VVT-iW) systems to achieve topnotch power performance, environmental performance, and fuel efficiency.
The VVT-iW system helps the car to ensure high torque in all engine speed ranges and enable the Atkinson cycle to be used. The engine is also mated to an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission that merges smooth, precise gear selection throughout the RPM range with an alacrity for fuel efficiency and on-demand power. Its revised logic control better matches with vehicle speed, engine speed, and torque engagement, and facilitates poised downshifts. Striking a smooth connection between a stylish design, exquisite luxury, and greater convenience and comfort, the all-new Avalon’s cabin is accentuated with a range of advanced features, including an enhanced in-vehicle 9-inch multimedia display, a 10-inch colored and adjustable head-up display (HUD), wireless charging system for smartphones, ambient illumination, dual-zone automatic air conditioning system, 14-speaker JBL surround sound system, multi-adjustable power and ventilated front seats, as well as 60:40 split folding rear seats. As with any other Toyota model, safety remains a top priority for the 2019 Avalon. The all-new vehicle’s foolproof safety system is complemented with Toyota Safety Sense, an advanced safety technology package that includes Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Automatic High Beam (AHB). In addition, the car features a comprehensive array of safety features to protect its occupants, such as 10 SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with Brake Hold function, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), among many others. Available in eight distinctive exterior colors, the all-new Avalon allows customers to express their individuality. Two newly-developed colors, Slate Gray and Blackish Brown, further express a premium feel with a sporty atmosphere. On the other hand, the interior comes in a total of three color schemes and with the choice of wood or hydrographic ornamentation depending on the grade. Furthermore, the 2019 Avalon has been rearmed with a newly-developed 17-inch alloy wheel. An 18-inch alloy wheel, finished in bright super chrome paint pursuing both a large impression and a high-class feeling, has also been made available.

THE ALL-NEW 2019 LEXUS ES UNVEILED BY ABDULLAH ABDULGHANI & BROS CO.
A
fter nearly three decades of unprecedented success in the luxury segment, Lexus is forging a new, more ambitious path as it unveils the all-new 2019 Lexus ES in Doha today. Long known for its unparalleled comfort, refinement, and luxury appointments, the all-new Lexus ES builds on its strengths with an allnew platform that allows for a more dynamic exterior design and even better driving performance. Mr. Firas Mufti Senior Marketing Manager opened up the event by disclosing some background information about the chief engineer Yasuhiro Sakakibara the person responsible for the new ES. Mr. Sakakibara had one clear goal when it came to the ES: ‘Transform its image.’ That meant further sharpening a sedan, known primarily for comfort and quietness, and adding class-leading handling and power that you can feel and hear. According to Sakakibara, the all-new Lexus ES has been built to deliver a fundamentally higher level of performance than any of its predecessors. He revealed: “With every new generation of the ES, the team works towards exceeding our customers’ needs and expectations. The all-new 2019 Lexus ES embodies our vision of developing a model that blends key elements of design and performance in a way that would deliver a higher level of enjoyment for its drivers and passengers. We knew this ES had to feel responsive and easy to drive, no matter what kind of road it was on. That can only be achieved with a solid foundation.”
30 ISSUE 13 / maqinaonline.com
That foundation is the newly developed GA-K platform. It is an exceptionally rigid front-wheel-drive chassis made from several grades of high-strength steel. The GA-K platform also incorporates far more structural adhesives than the previous ES platform, as well as laser screw welding – a construction method shared with the LS sedan, which is used in 120 locations throughout the GA-K platform to further solidify the already robust structure. Additional measures were used to improve front-end stiffness, including a strut tower brace, multiple reinforcement panels for the strut towers themselves, and new radiator support braces. Yugo Miyamoto, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, said: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of the all-new Lexus ES in Qatar to complement the phenomenal success of the model and also to pave the way for a futuristic driving experience in the region. Building on the distinctive characteristics of the ES, such as the unparalleled ride comfort and quietness, refinement, and luxury appointments, the Lexus engineers challenged their craftsmanship to sculpt the exciting, all-new sedan.” One of two major additions to the all-new Lexus ES lineup includes the ES 300h, an electrified hybrid model, which combines two power sources consisting of a petrol engine and two electric motors.
The class-leading hybrid electric model enables customers to contribute to a sustainable future while enjoying increased driving satisfaction and engagement provided by its advanced technologies and cabin quietness, as well as its acceleration smoothness, especially when starting off. The second addition is the all-new 2019 Lexus ES F SPORT model, which further enhances the driving excitement so that drivers can enjoy a sense of oneness with the car, born of its ability to respond immediately to driving enthusiasts’ intentions in various situations. In addition to a thrilling exterior that highlights its bold and aggressive personality, the all-new Lexus ES F SPORT features numerous upgrades such as a retuned suspension, 19-inch wheels and tires, and unique aluminum interior trim that gives the machine a more dynamic look and feel. The introduction of the all-new 2019 Lexus ES continues the expression of the brand’s design direction and commitment towards crafting vehicles with heightened excitement, emotion, and passion, expanding that vision of the brand’s future to a broader audience. The provocative elegance of the design starts up front with the latest iteration of the brand’s signature grille, but adds individual cues that are unique to the ES such as the vertical grille pattern and satin-plated trim, adding slim headlamps with distinctive L-shaped marker lights. In profile, the ES has a dynamic yet fluid shape that starts with the low hoodline that feeds into the sleek roofline. The rear of the all-new Lexus ES is clean and sharply chiseled, with distinctive three-dimensional, L-shaped LED taillamps that wrap around the quarter panels to provide a continuous styling line from any angle. Complementing the all-new Lexus ES emotional design is a thrilling drive personality imbued by three powertrain options. The ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is designed to deliver commanding acceleration along with an invigorating sound. With an update to the D4-S fuel injection system, the impressively smooth engine now produces 300 hp and 36.4 kg-m of torque, while the ES 250 is powered by an all-new, high-efficiency 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 204 hp and 24.8 kg-m of torque. This aluminum-intensive engine features a long-stroke design, laser-clad intake valve seats and advanced Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to achieve a new high-speed combustion process. The two powertrains on ES 350 and ES 250 are mated to a new eightspeed direct-shift automatic transmission. This uses an ultra-thin torque converter and a multi-plate lock-up clutch to more efficiently transfer power to the front wheels, and has been tuned to deliver crisp, precisely-timed shifts with quick pedal responses. In addition, an electrified hybrid powertrain was developed for the all-new ES. This third powertrain option combines two power sources consisting of a petrol engine and two electric motors, producing 176 hp and 22.5 kg-m of torque and 118 hp and 20.6 kg-m of torque, respectively, delivering a combined system output of 215 hp. This powertrain is also mated to a new hybrid transaxle that provides the lowest fuel consumption value of 22.4km/L, and highest driving performance of this class. The hybrid transaxle offers differential limit torque under certain conditions such as light loads or low rotational speed differences, to help realize excellent straight-line stability against external disturbances as well as steering stability. The class-leading hybrid electric model ES 300h can be driven entirely by either electrical power with zero-fuel consumption and carbon emissions, or with a combination of a petrol engine and two electric motors, depending on the vehicle’s speed and customer’s driving behavior. The batteries in the hybrid electric drivetrain are automatically charged by either the petrol engine or when braking and decelerating, eliminating the need to plug in a power cord.
Furthermore, the ES 300h electrified hybrid model features a host of advanced technologies, yet drives like any other conventional car and does not require special fuel. Completing the all-new Lexus ES’ distinct personality is its exquisite interior that invites the driver and passengers to enjoy a range of advanced features offering a refined cabin experience. These include an enhanced in-vehicle 12.3-inch multimedia display, a 10.2-inch colored and adjustable head-up display (HUD), a 7-inch color multi-information display (MID), a wireless charging system for smartphones, an LED ambient illumination, the Lexus Climate Concierge with a 3-zone independent temperature control system, a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, multiadjustable power and ventilated front seats, power reclining rear seats, a rear armrest with multi-operation panel, and a hands-free power trunk lid. Highlighting Lexus’ unrelenting focus on safety, the all-new vehicle ensures complete peace of mind with Lexus Safety System+, an advanced safety technology package that includes Pre-Collision System (PCS) with pedestrian detection during daylight and certain low-light condition, all-speed range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with a new feature called Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and twostage adaptive high beam system (AHS). In addition, the car features a comprehensive array of safety features to protect its occupants, such as 10 SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Panoramic View Monitor (PVM), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Parking Support Alert (PKSA), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Active Cornering Assist (ACA), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), among many others. Available in 12 distinctive exterior colors, the all-new Lexus ES allows customers to express their individuality with two exclusive colors for the F SPORT version. Two newly-developed exterior colors, Ice Ecru Mica Metallic and Sunlight Green Mica Metallic, further evoke the luxurious and glamorous atmosphere. On the other hand, the interior comes in a total of five color schemes, with two new schemes called Rich Cream and Chateau, and an exclusive scheme for the F SPORT. There are five available ornamentations depending on the grade, with three new designs, including Bamboo, Shimamoku Black, and a Dynamic pattern called ‘3D Film,’ along with one exclusive design for the F SPORT. Furthermore, the all-new model has been rearmed with four new wheel designs; a 17-inch wheel, two 18-inch wheels – with one wheel developed to reduce weight, enhance rigidity, and suppress noise generated by the tires – and a 19-inch wheel that is exclusive for the F SPORT.

MG MOTOR INTRODUCES NEW MG GS 2019 TO THE MIDDLE EAST
M
G Motor has announced the arrival of the New MG GS 2019 in the Middle East. The changes are immediately visible from the outside, with the New GS showing off a sportier, yet more aggressive look from the front. replaced. More than 80 percent of the surfaces are now covered in soft-touch material, an impressive 30 percent more than in the firstgeneration model. Making it as quiet as it is comfortable, MG has worked hard to reduce cabin noise. The central console has been completely revamped to offer a more premium finish and greater functionality. It integrates new 360-degree air conditioning vents, while a revised compressor contributes to both enhance the system’s operation and reduce noise. New, sportier seats contribute to the heightened levels of comfort and style within the cabin. The new console now also features a new 8-inch, quick response, high resolution touch screen, which allows users to manage multilanguage features such as POI Search, with Navigation and an offline GCC map with ease. The multi-functional steering wheel has also been redesigned with a smaller diameter and three spoke design, offering improved handling and control.
The New MG GS, in keeping with the brand’s reputation for delivering excellent value for money, is exceptionally well-equipped. Standard features on both models include electric folding mirrors, an electricallyoperated sunroof, keyless entry, cruise control, a push-start button, auto-hold function, hill-descent control, reversing sensors and a parking camera. The infotainment system also supports Apple CarPlay. There is ample room in the New MG GS, including 24 different storage spaces. The rear seats can be completely laid flat, expanding the trunk capacity from 434 litres to a whopping 1,336 litres and allowing easy storage of large items. And passengers also benefit from plenty of room in the smart cabin, thanks the new model’s dimensions – it is longer, wider and taller than its key competitors. Equipped with a 2.0T powerful engine, mated to a smoother 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddleshift gearchange, the New MG GS delivers maximum power of 221hp and maximum torque of 350Nm. It is available with either 2-Wheel Drive or a new All-Wheel Drive, with the latter ensuring a smoother ride by adjusting the torque distribution faster than the previous model. Thanks to an overall improvement in the rigidity of the suspension set-up, the stability of the new model has been improved and cabin noise significantly reduced. As befitting a family-focused car, safety is a key priority with the New MG GS, which has been awarded 5-star C-NCAP ratings. Standard safety features include ABS, EBD, ESP and six airbags. Commenting on the New MG GS, Mr. Tom Lee, Managing Director, SAIC
Motor Middle East said: “The first-generation model helped to introduce our brand to customers in the Middle East. The New MG GS arrives at a time when we are experiencing significant growth in the number of MG cars being bought across the region. Crafted to high standards of design, technology, comfort and safety, it reinforces the quality of the MG line-up and we are confident will help to boost the growing popularity of the brand.” Since its acquisition of MG Motor, SAIC MOTOR, as a Global Top 500 company, has opened a new chapter for this British-born brand. The introduction of the second-generation MG GS follows the launch of two SUV models earlier this year, the MG RX5 compact SUV and the MG ZS SUV. Together, these models join the existing MG 360 to complete the brand’s Middle East line-up. maqinaonline.com / ISSUE 13 33

THE NEW BMW M5 MAKES A STATEMENT IN QATAR
H
aving launched the new BMW M5 earlier this year, Alfardan Automobiles, the official BMW Group importer in Qatar continues to make a statement with this high-performance sedan. Customers in the country have seen the M5 exploring new dynamic dimensions and offering greater everyday practicality in all driving conditions. Featuring M xDrive all-wheel drive for the first time in the highperformance segment this car takes BMW M GmbH into new territory. The new M xDrive is the most emotionally engaging all-wheel-drive system yet to grace the high-performance segment. It works with a central transfer case with multi-plate clutch and distributes drive fully variably between the front and rear axle, as required. Another ingredient in the car’s supreme traction in all road and weather conditions is the Active M Differential at the rear axle, which also works fully variably and has a locking effect between 0 and 100 per cent.
36 ISSUE 13 / maqinaonline.com
Providing ample power for the new BMW M5 is a 4.4-litre V8 biturbo engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The M engineers have carried out significant revisions to the outgoing model’s power unit. For example, newly developed turbochargers, ultraefficient indirect charge air cooling and increased fuel injection pressure together help to raise output and, above all, torque. The engine develops 441 kW/600 hp at 5,600 – 6,700 rpm, while a monumental 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque is placed at the driver’s disposal from as low down as 1,800 rpm and remains there until 5,600 rpm. The character of M xDrive can be adjusted as desired. The driver has five different configurations to choose from based on combinations of the DSC modes (DSC on, MDM, DSC off) and M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD Sport, 2WD). In the basic setting with DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) activated and 4WD, the system permits slight slip through the rear wheels when accelerating out of corners – and therefore plays its part in giving the new BMW M5 its sporting agility. In M Dynamic mode (MDM, 4WD Sport) M xDrive allows easily controlled drifts.
The three M xDrive modes with DSC switched off have been conceived to sate the appetites of keen drivers and primarily for use on the track. Here, the driver can choose from three configurations up to and including pure rear-wheel drive (2WD). This mode allows the driver to pick their own drift angle and treats connoisseurs to driving dynamics in their purest form. The new BMW M5 includes revisions to its bodywork over the regular BMW 5 Series to satisfy its challenging dynamic brief. The M engineers have redesigned the broader front side panels and front bumper trim to include larger apertures for the air feeding the cooling systems and brakes. Also new is the rear diffuser. The exhaust system’s quartet of tailpipes are a visual pointer to the power generated by the BMW M5 and also lay on a suitably sporting soundtrack for the job in hand, courtesy of their flap control system. The driver can use a button to adjust the engine sound as desired.

The new edition of the roadster will celebrate its world premiere at precisely the same location that served as the stage for the first public presentation of the BMW Concept Z4 last year. With its puristic, dynamic and progressive design language, the concept vehicle presented a vision of a charismatic sports car which, thanks to the production model, now becomes reality. Just a glance at the new BMW Z4’s proportions leaves no doubt about its dynamic potential. The central sitting position for the driver, the low centre of gravity, perfectly balanced 50 : 50 axle load distribution, wide tracks and a compact wheelbase form the ideal prerequisites for inspiringly agile handling and intense driving pleasure.
The BMW Z4 M40i First Edition fulfils these expectations in every aspect thanks to an extremely powerful 250 kW/340 hp, straight six-cylinder engine and a sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, M Sport braking system and an electronically controlled M Sport differential in the rear axle transmission. The BMW M Performance automobile takes a mere 4.6 seconds to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h. Vertically aligned headlights, the BMW kidney grille sporting a mesh design, the bonnet stretching sports car-like over the wheels, large air breathers on the front wheel arches and the distinctive spoiler integrated into the rear lid all contribute towards the characteristic look of the new BMW Z4. The design of the interior also places the focus on the puristic sportiness of the new BMW Z4. The driver-oriented cockpit styling is underscored by dynamic forward-oriented lines. Likewise, the clearly structured arrangement of all control elements enhances the focus on the driving experience inside the new BMW Z4. Moreover, for a perfect start into a new roadster era, the new BMW Z4 M40i First Edition offers specific design and equipment features that add exclusive accents to the car’s sporty flair.

Adaptive LED headlights with matrix function for the high beam, BMW Head-Up Display featured for the first time in a roadster and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional offering the latest networking technology underpin the advanced status the traditionsteeped concept of a two-seater, open-top sports car has reached with the new BMW Z4. maqinaonline.com / ISSUE 13 41

GAZOO RACING (GR) CELEBRATES BACK-TO-BACK WINS AT ROUND 9 OF 2018 WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP IN GERMANY
T
he GAZOO Racing (GR) World Rally Team is celebrating its second consecutive victory, after Ott Tänak followed his Rally Finland triumph by securing first place at the recent Rallye Deutschland, during the World Rally Championship (WRC) organized by the International Automobile Federation or Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The race also marked the Toyota Yaris WRC’s maiden win on asphalt. As in Finland, the team achieved a double podium result, with Esapekka Lappi finishing in third place, enabling Toyota to climb to the second position in the manufacturers’ championship and placing the team within 13 points of the lead. The ninth event of the calendar, Rallye Deutschland features terrain so diverse that it can be thought of as three asphalt rallies in one: the twisting roads through the vineyards overlooking the Mosel River close to Trier, the many challenging surfaces of the notoriously tough Baumholder military training area, and the fast and narrow country lanes around the service park at Bostalsee Lake in the Saarland region. With tire choice and car set-up further complicated by the often-changeable weather conditions, the Toyota Yaris WRC’s versatility proved a decisive factor in the team’s victory. The car features a 1.6-liter turbocharged, direct injection engine that produces over 300bhp, a six-speed hydraulic shift gearbox, and a solid chassis shaped by advanced simulation, testing and production techniques. Tommi Mäkinen, Team Principal, said: “This is another great moment for our team. Ott has once again been outstanding all weekend. Esapekka had a brilliant clean drive with no mistakes, which are very easy to make on this rally. Everybody has worked very hard to achieve this great result on asphalt, and we are all motivated to give maximum effort for the rest of the year.”

“We are very excited by the team’s outstanding performance, and I would like to congratulate them on attaining a double podium finish in this challenging race – a magnificent achievement that demonstrates their skills and determination,” said Yugo Miyamoto, Chief Representative of Middle East & North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation. “Toyota is committed to building ‘ever-better’ cars, and motorsport is one of the means by which the skills of our people and the quality of our products can be further honed to achieve that aim. We extend our gratitude to our fans for their ongoing support and belief in our abilities and their constant encouragement.” Tänak was the front-runner for most of the race, only briefly conceding the lead after SS2. He carried an advantage of 43.7 seconds into the final day, which he managed carefully through the two runs over the 29-kilometer Grafschaft vineyard test. The win was sealed on the Bosenberg Power Stage, where he came within 0.1s of repeating his fastest time in Finland. Rallye Deutschland is the third race that Tänak and co-driver Martin Järveoja’s have won since joining Toyota this year. It is also the pair’s second victory at this event in as many years, and one that brings Tänak closer to the two drivers currently ahead of him in the championship. Lappi started the day in fifth position, moving up into third with a clean run through the first stage. He was third fastest on the Power Stage, as he and co-driver Janne Ferm steered their Toyota Yaris WRC to a second podium finish in the space of three events, and their first on asphalt. The result strengthens Lappi’s fourth place in the drivers’ standings in his first full season at this level.
forms of motorsports, including Formula One, the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race. Toyota’s participation in these events was overseen by separate entities within the company until April 2015, when Toyota established ‘GAZOO Racing’ (GR), to consolidate all of its motorsports activities under one in-house brand. Representing Toyota’s belief that ‘the roads build the people, and the people build the cars,’ GAZOO Racing (GR) highlights the role of motorsports as a fundamental pillar of Toyota’s commitment to making ‘ever-better’ cars. Harnessing years of experience gained under the extreme conditions of various motorsports events, ‘GAZOO Racing’ (GR) aims to forge new technologies and solutions that bring the freedom, adventure, and joy of driving to everyone. The 2018 season marks the second year of the GAZOO Racing (GR) team’s mission to harness experience from motorsport to make ever-better cars. The team enjoyed a successful debut year in 2017 that included victories at Rally Sweden and Rally Finland, and finished third in the manufacturers’ championship.

We are proud to be steering this direction with BMW locally in Qatar through our latest offerings.” Stealing the spotlight was the iconic all new BMW X5. The fourthgeneration Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) gives an imposing appearance and enviable interior space. A powerfully sculpted bonnet, a short front overhang, lightly hexagonal wheel arches and the dynamic sweep of the roofline provide further references to the sporty yet rugged character of the new X5.
Two variants of the BMW X5 will be available: The new V8 engine in the BMW X5 xDrive50i boasts 462 hp (0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds) and a BMW X5 xDrive40i will be fitted with a 340 hp six-cylinder engine (0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds). Both variants will be equipped with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission and will be available for model-specific options from BMW Individual. The most powerful letter also made an appearance at Qatar Motor Show, with the new BMW M5 at the lead. Providing ample power for the new performance sedan is a 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and develops 600 hp with impressive performance figures that speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 11.1 seconds.
Like all the models to come out of BMW M GmbH HQ, the design is M-specific and driven by function, with an interior focusing squarely on the driver. As a high-performance sports car and business sedan in one, it blends the best of both worlds. Available at the stand were also the all new BMW M2 Competition and BMW M4 CS with the new Oled lights– a symbolic pair when it comes to the BMW M sub-brand, along with the range-topping BMW M760Li xDrive Series. The open-top two-seater BMW i8 Roadster awed attendees with its ground-hugging design. The electrically operated soft-top adds a whole new sensation of freedom to the combination of locally emission-free mobility and high-calibre performance the i8 is justly known for.

ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS TAKES THE LUXURY OF PRIVACY TO A NEW LEVEL
A
s the world’s leading luxury brand, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is best placed to understand and harness the many different possibilities of luxury for its influential clients. Throughout history the power brokers and history makers have negotiated some of the most historical agreements in confidence thanks to the ‘luxury of privacy’ afforded to them by the rear compartment of a Rolls-Royce. In this spirit, Rolls-Royce announced at the 2018 Chengdu Motor Show today the introduction of the ‘Privacy Suite’ for the new Extended Wheelbase Phantom; an innovation that provides unrivalled levels of privacy and luxury. As it has over the past 90 years, Phantom today stands as the most celebrated luxury item in the world. Its legend compels the world’s most influential and enigmatic individuals – men and women who demand the ‘luxury of privacy’ wherever they travel. Expressing a deep understanding of this requirement, the marque has created the Privacy Suite, balancing function and luxury without compromising the space and comfort of rear passengers.

Rolls-Royce has once again demonstrated the link between luxury and technology with the integration of Electrochromatic Glass, allowing front and rear cabins to be visually separated at the touch of a button. The rear occupant is offered the option to see through the glass and on to the road ahead or to instantly transform the glass to opaque, providing a highly sophisticated and absolute level of privacy.
This complex execution of craftsmanship and technology is deployed and controlled from the centre console and, combined with Starlight Headliner and Bespoke Clock, creates a peerless ambience for passengers. Rear Privacy Curtains have also been added allowing full closure of the side and rear window as well as Rear Privacy Glass, extending discretion when the curtains are open.
The Privacy Suite also represents a leap forward in sound absorption in a motor car that is already hailed as the quietest in the world, delivering the highest possible levels of acoustic insulation. A frequency-specific compound inhibits the transmission of conversations in the rear cabin to the front cabin, yet a fully integrated Intercom System allows communication on demand. Controlled by the rear passenger, the Intercom System can be used to open a direct line to the driver at the press of a button whilst the driver is able to ‘call’ the rear occupants, who can choose to answer or reject the communication. In addition, a large aperture controlled solely by the rear passenger allows documents or other objects to be easily passed between the front and rear cabins. When open, the aperture is discretely illuminated to ensure passengers are satisfied with the nature of the documents or objects before they receive them. A Bespoke Rear Theatre Entertainment system has also been integrated into the Privacy Suite, which includes two high definition 12-inch monitors linked to the motor car’s suite of fully connected software as well as an HDMI port that allows passengers to synchronise their highly secure personal devices.

he HOFELE family has a history in automotive design and engineering and a connection to the Mercedes-Benz brand for over 100 years when the current generation Michael & Martin HOFELE’s grandfather was an apprentice with Mr. Carl Benz at Benz & Co.
(HOFELE based on the Maybach) In January 2018 HOFELE-Design GmbH became an authorised contractual partner of Daimler AG for the conversion of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. So far this year we have seen some of HOFELE’s products based on Mercedes-Benz SUV’s like the GLS and the G-Wagon. Now HOFELE turn their attention to Mercedes-Benz saloon models. HOFELE has just released photos of their exclusive program for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the MAYBACH. (HOFELE based on the S-Class) HOFELE’s design philosophy is based on “Elegant, Sophisticated with a tough of Sportiness”. Rather than following the trend of some of the other companies modifying Mercedes-Benz vehicles which push the boundaries with large amounts of carbon and aerodynamic add-on’s HOFELE’s designs focus is on discrete individualism. The owner of a HOFELE wants the Mercedes-Benz brand experience with a little bit of extra exclusivity. We have seen the HOFELE based on a standard Mercedes-Benz GLS400 that looks like a “Special Edition” GLS 63 AMG with its high quality Maybach style leather interior and many other exclusive HOFELE features, the total HOFELE package is made up of a number of styling elements and enhancements that are included with a very high level of attention to detail that they really do add to the feeling and look of an ultra-premium brand. (HOFELE based on the GLS) The HOFELE S-Class & Maybach shown here for the first time demonstrate that HOFELE is committed to building the brand to enhance the whole range of passenger cars available from MercedesBenz. We are also informed that HOFELE are now working on the C & E-Class models and we hope to see details of these soon. HOFELE is now actively building an internationally respected brand with a dealer network to cover Europe, The Middle East and China.

The new car sets a new benchmark for Ferrari for spider performance with an unprecedented weight-power ratio of 1.92 kg/ cv. A result made possible by the adoption of the most powerful Ferrari V8 engine ever, which was recently named Best Engine in the world for the third consecutive year at the 2018 International Engine of the Year Awards.
The 3902cc twin-turbo V8 unleashes 720 cv and combines that power with increasing torque at all engine speeds for continuous and unending acceleration all the way to the red line. The unique engine sound is now even more riveting thanks to the open-top configuration. The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider represents the natural development of the defining design of the coupé version. The Ferrari designers’ primary objective was to maintain unaltered the perfect marriage of aerodynamic efficiency, purity of form and racing spirit. This concept is underlined by the characteristic central livery which runs the whole length of the car, expanding towards the rear where it finishes at the end of the rear wing next to the spoiler. This continual expansion of the stripe recalls the movement of the airflow and exalts the lines of the car. The philosophy that imposed an uncompromising choice of materials for the bodywork is also revisited in the interior solutions, with weight being saved by the use of lightweight, pared-back
components. As well as the generous use of carbon-fibre and Alcantara® throughout, the carpets have been replaced by patterned aluminium foot plates and the driver’s-side door handle is now a simple strap. In terms of engineering, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider is directly derived from the 488 Pista which encapsulates all the racing experience gathered on world’s circuits with the 488 Challenge and the 488 GTE. As a result, the new Spider offers the highest level yet of technological transfer from the track to a road-legal drop-top car. The vehicle dynamics honed for this Special Series 8-cylinder convertible deliver a seamless combination of razor-sharp acceleration, braking efficiency, lightning-fast gear shifting, precision steering, grip, stability and superb handling. LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR SVJ THE PINNACLE OF LAMBORGHINI V12 SUPER SPORTS CARS The distillation of extraordinary design, groundbreaking technologies and the ultimate in handling, performance and driver enjoyment, the Aventador SVJ creates pure driving perfection, taking the concept of a super sports car to a new dimension. The new Aventador SVJ, where SV historically stands for Superveloce - meaning ‘superfast’ - takes the ‘Jota’ suffix, denoting its track and performance superiority: the Aventador SVJ has already claimed its position as the Nürburgring-Nordschleife production car record holder, completing the 20.6 km lap in just 6:44.97 minutes. Production is limited to 900 units. A special edition, named SVJ 63, is exclusively unveiled on the concept lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It pays homage to Lamborghini’s founding year of 1963: produced in a unique configuration, it demonstrates the rich use of carbon fiber and is made in an additional limited number of just 63. “The Aventador SVJ is an innovative car and represents the absolute pinnacle of our super sports car product range,” said Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stefano Domenicali. “The challenge to Lamborghini designers and engineers was to improve the purest essence of the Lamborghini super sports car, drawing on every inspiration from a space ship to a jet fighter: all the most exceptional examples of super-fast, super-athletic, aerodynamic superiority. The Aventador SVJ takes another step into the future, shaping the potential for super sports car development.” Improved performance in all aspects.
62 ISSUE 13 / maqinaonline.com
The Aventador SVJ’s Nürburgring-Nordschleife lap record is living proof of its benchmarking performance. With its optimized power plant making it the most powerful series production V12-engined car produced to date by Lamborghini, the SVJ features an increase in power to 770 hp (566 kW) at maximum 8,500 rpm. The SVJ outputs 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm, while a dry weight of just 1,525 kg gives the SVJ a weight-to-power ratio of 1.98 kg/hp. The SVJ accelerates from standing to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.6 seconds. A top speed of more than 350 km/h is complemented by a braking distance of 100 km/h to 0 in 30 meters. The Aventador SVJ is, however, more than a super sports car achieving the top numbers. The development philosophy of the Aventador SVJ and its very essence in terms of design, aerodynamic technologies and efficiency, weight-to-power as well as performance, is to create a demanding driver’s perfect car. The Aventador SVJ – designed for aerodynamic supremacy Every feature of the Aventador SVJ resonates its aerodynamic prowess: the SVJ is significantly enhanced in appearance compared to the Aventador S, with every facet of its ‘form follows function’ design a reminder of its raison d’être on road and track: innovate to be the best. The main goal in design was a significant downforce improvement compared to the previous Aventador SV: +40% on both axles with an improved drag coefficient -1%.

NEWS
From the front the car is wider: a new front bumper with integrated side fins features a new air intake and highlights the inclusion of Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA), Lamborghini’s patented active aerodynamics technologies. The disconnected front splitter continues the impression of a floating component, while providing a channel for airflow. A tri-dimensional air outlet on the hood directs airflow, improves both drag and downforce, and clearly alludes to the aerodynamic purpose of the SVJ’s design. The upper body aerodynamic optimization has contributed 70% to the total downforce improvement in the SVJ over the SV. The SVJ’s rocker is entirely new, adopting the ‘Y’ theme found in Lamborghini cars while also resembling shapes found in jet fighters. The bigger side air intakes and the new front side fins reduce drag and improve overall cooling. An improved underbody aero design with vortex generators works in conjunction with front diffusers and a new, extreme-design rear diffuser, together with divergent fins, contributes 30% to the total downforce improvement. The rear wing of the SVJ has been designed for best aerodynamic efficiency, based on a new air foil; an optimized ALA 2.0 system; and side winglets to reduce turbulence while providing high downforce on the straight as well as in high speed corners. At the rear of the car the position of the high-mounted naked exhaust resembles those found on extreme motorbikes, as well as saving weight due to its proximity to the engine: the exhaust

system itself is also lighter. The Omega-shape rear bumper incorporates a massive new diffuser that contributes to downforce, while a new high-mounted rear wing is produced entirely in carbon fiber with its integrated ALA system. The new rear engine bonnet has been redesigned for the SVJ: it is made from lightweight carbon fiber and removable via quick release clips in a reference to motor racing. It also adopts the ‘Y’ theme that reveals the updated V12 power plant below, while accenting the car’s high performance characteristics. Super-light ‘Nireo’ aluminum rims are designed specifically for the SVJ, saving weight and contributing to the extreme dynamism of the car. Optional ‘Leirion’ aluminum rims with ‘Y’ and hexagonal details are also available. The Italian flag detail on the side wing is a reminder of the Lamborghini’s Italian super sports car heritage. Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva 2.0 Lamborghini’s patented ALA system was first seen on the Huracán Performante, and has been developed to an enhanced level for the Aventador SVJ, now ALA 2.0, including new optimized air inlets and aero channel designs. The system has been re-calibrated taking into account the enhanced vehicle’s lateral accelerations. The ALA system actively varies aero load to achieve high downforce or low drag, depending on dynamic conditions.

Electronically-actuated motors open or close active flaps in the front splitter and on the engine bonnet that steer the air-flow, front and rear. Utilizing Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Attiva 2.0 (LDVA 2.0) with improved inertial sensors that govern all the car’s electronic systems in real time, the ALA system flaps are activated in less than 500 milliseconds to ensure the best aerodynamic set-up of the car in every driving condition. When ALA is off, the active flaps are closed, generating the desired high downforce for high speed cornering and full brake conditions. When ALA switches to ‘on’ the front flaps are opened, reducing air pressure on the front spoiler and directing air flow via an inner channel and through the speciallyshaped vortex generators on the underside of the car. This drastically reduces drag and optimizes conditions for maximum acceleration and top speed. When ALA is off the rear flaps are also closed, allowing the rear wing to act as a traditional fixed wing. Stability is enhanced in high speed cornering and full braking by creating maximum vertical downforce. When ALA is ‘on’ the flaps on the engine bonnet open in order to stall the wing for improved drag in high speed conditions. In addition, the rear wing’s inner air channel is split right and left, allowing aero vectoring for high speed cornering. Depending on the direction of the turn, the LDVA 2.0 instructs ALA to be switched on in either the right or left side of the wing, increasing downforce and traction on the inner wheel and counteracting the load transfer in rolling conditions. This in turn optimizes the chassis’ momentum, requiring a reduced steering angle and improving the car’s overall dynamic stability.

The aero vectoring technology in the SVJ has been further developed to improve the aero-loading effects on the inner wheel by 30% compared to the original system. Engineering technology The enhanced powertrain features a new titanium intake valve with a new-shape intake runner and length, with a modified intake cylinder head duct for higher flow coefficient. The new, lightweight exhaust system reduces backpressure as well as producing the most emotive sound, and the optimized sevenspeed Independent Shifting Road (ISR) gearbox has been calibrated for the car’s increased performance in terms of both power and torque. The Aventador SVJ’s vertical, lateral and longitudinal dynamics have been re-engineered in LDVA 2.0, with algorithms fully integrated within ALA 2.0 to reflect the exceptional downforce generated and optimize performance: the result of significant R&D investment and collaboration with the CFD team. The SVJ’s suspension has been reworked, providing higher mechanical and aerodynamic grip. Anti-roll bar stiffness has been improved by 50% compared to the Aventador SV, compensating against roll and improving aero efficiency. A higher damping force range, increased by 15% over the SV, and Lamborghini’s Magneto Rheological Suspension (LMS) has been recalibrated to improve body and wheel control with a focus on track performance.
The Aventador SVJ’s rear-wheel steering (LRS) is further engineered to exploit the aero load in every environment, providing exceptional stability in high speed conditions and improving agility in cornering to enhance average speed in all dynamic conditions. The Aventador SVJ’s steering has also been developed to provide the feedback demanded in high-performance track and racing environments. The rebalanced power steering reflects the specific aero load and tires, and the Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) is recalibrated to further improve steering precision and natural feedback. The Lamborghini SVJ’s four-wheel drive system has improved torque split to maximize traction and agility, with the higher stability of the SVJ allowing a further 3% of torque to be sent to the rear axle compared to the SV. The rear-wheel steering has been developed to further improve the car’s stability while reducing braking distances, particularly in combined braking/turning conditions such as high speed cornering. ESC has been enhanced for improved cornering and driver experience in extreme handling conditions, and ABS has been specifically tuned for the improved grip provided by the tires and ALA system.
New Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires have been specifically developed, according to Lamborghini’s brief for the SVJ: the tires provide higher vertical stiffness to accommodate the SVJ’s higher downforce, as well as provide a high grip level to enhance overall vehicle performance. Featuring a specific tread design, the tires are designed to optimize performance on both road and track. Optional street-legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires can be mounted specifically for track use. A driver’s car The Aventador SVJ is a driver-focused car, developed to maximize the union between driver and car in the most extreme road and track conditions and ensure the most rewarding experience. With Lamborghini’s three driving modes, Strada, Sport and Corsa, as well as the EGO option allowing the driver to further customize his preferences for car set-up, the cockpit features Kombi graphics on the TFT digital dashboard display as well as showing live status of the ALA functions. The Navigation System and Infotainment System including AppleCarPlay come as an option free of charge, allowing the cockpit’s occupants to manage voice activated communications and entertainment from personal Apple devices. The Lamborghini telemetry system is an optional specification: recording lap times and track performance as well as trip data, the telemetry system is especially appealing to the owner who wants to take his car on track. The interior specification of the Aventador SVJ is virtually limitless through Lamborghini’s Ad Persona customization program.

Designed with the sole aim of winning, these uncompromising models helped build the Ferrari legend in the 1950s by delivering numerous victories in the World Sports Car Championship. The Ferrari Monza SP1 was designed as an uncompromising single-seat road car that offers a truly unique experience behind the wheel. The second configuration, the Monza SP2, thanks to the elimination of the tonneau cover and the addition of a second protective screen and a second roll-bar, is instead a two-seater enabling the passenger to share the same driving sensations.

NE WS The Monza SP1 and SP2 feature a unique design, the best weight-to-power ratio of any barchetta, thanks to the extensive use of carbon-fibre in construction, and distinctive details, such as head-and tail-lights, wheels and interior, which further enhance the cars’ exclusivity. Equipped with the most powerful engine Maranello has ever built, a 810 cv V12, they can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The architecture of the two cars is based on a monolithic form with an aerodynamic wing profile where the complete absence of a roof and windscreen gave the designers the freedom to create unique proportions that would not have been possible on a traditional spider. The result is the feeling of blistering speed normally only experienced by Formula 1 drivers, which derives from the concept of a cockpit carved from the car’s very volume that wraps around the driver.
maqinaonline.com / ISSUE 13 71
NEWS The Ferrari Design Centre has sought to create a very pure design, as though born of a single pencil stroke, to convey an ideal of timeless elegance, minimalist form and refined detail. Visually complex solutions, such as those seen on recent racing cars, have been avoided, giving way to a more understated formal design language. Never has a model expressed such a narrative power, highlighting its appeal as a driver’s car where the link between man and automobile becomes symbiotic. A radical choice was made for the design of the cars’ compact doors which open upwards. Equally important is the all-carbon-fibre one-piece bonnetwing assembly which is hinged at the front to showcase the imposing V12 engine once open. As with racing models, the bodyshell of both cars is made entirely from lightweight carbon-fibre. The entire interior is trimmed in the same material with a natural finish to enhance the sporty impact of the design. Weight reduction and the ‘barchetta’ configuration guarantee unique vehicle dynamics: perfectly balanced with no roll whatsoever for pure, uncompromising sports-car handling. Because these are authentic “en plein air” sports cars, one of the greatest challenges in their design was managing the aerodynamic flows inside the cockpit in the absence of a windscreen. The solution was the innovative patented “Virtual Wind Shield” which has been incorporated into the fairing ahead of the instrument panel and the steering wheel. The “Virtual Wind Shield” deviates a part of the air flow to maintain driving comfort.

NE WS Especially for Monza SP1 and SP2 owners Ferrari, in collaboration with two leading luxury brands, Loro Piana and Berluti, has created elegant gentlemen-driver-inspired apparel and accessories. The driver’s selection includes racing overalls, jersey, helmet, gloves, scarf and driving shoes. These feature a number of technical solutions to guarantee a comfortable fit and ensure freedom of movement while driving.

lthough the world is full of SUVs to fill practically every niche segment there is, we don’t seem to be able to get enough of them. Big, luxury SUVs aren’t as popular as they used to be and the small crossovers don’t attract that big of a crowd. In other words, the mid-size SUV segment is currently one of the hottest segments in the automotive industry. Manufacturers are fighting to get their share of the market and are doing so in grand fashion. In the last couple of years alone we’ve seen plenty of premium manufacturers offer SUVs (Lamborghini, Bentley and Rolls-Royce), but none of them are a match for the already established competitors. Competitors like VW.
76 ISSUE 13 / maqinaonline.com
The Tiguan and the Touareg are great sellers, but there’s a large gap between them. So, in order to fill that gap, VW decided to introduce the Teramont, otherwise known as the Atlas in Europe and America. It’s closer to the Touareg than it is to the Tiguan, but we’d argue that makes the proposition that much more appealing. Trouble is, the market is already established, and braking through might be a bit of a challenge. Can the Teramont steal market share from stiff competition? To find out, we drove one in Oman, at the Jabal Alakhdar, known as Green Mountain.
Exterior Visually, the Teramont isn’t that exciting when you first look at it. Yes it’s new and fresh-looking, but it isn’t as striking as other SUVs in the VW Groupation lineup (think Lamborghini Urus or Bentley Bentayga). Then again, it’s 4 to 5 times cheaper than either of them, so we really have to take that into consideration. We will say this however: the Teramont has a design which grows on you over time. By the time we were done with the test drive I turned around to look at the thing every time I got out.
The front is reminiscent of the Amarok, but that’s not a bad thing. These two share the same DNA and that is immediately apparent. The headlights and the grille are carried over from the CrossBlue concept, and I commend VW for that. The new Touareg will wear a similar fascia no doubt, though I do wish VW would separate their models a little more visually. The Teramont is one of those vehicles which look bigger on pictures than it does in real life. Because of its proportions it appears larger than the previous Touareg, though in practice they’re not that far off from each other.

COMFY SEATS AND “PLENTY OF SPACE IN ALL THREE ROWS ” Feel free to take that as a compliment. The Teramont is still massively practical and spacious, but it’s nowhere near as cumbersome to drive and park as its dimensions might suggest at first glance. Overall, it won’t take your breath away, but it’s a great contemporary design with sprinkles of new-age tech. Interior Here’s where the Teramont really shines. All VWs, without exception, are superbly built. The price doesn’t reflect their fit and finish at all. The craftsmanship is as good as that on the Bentley Bentayga, and I do mean that. Okay so the materials aren’t as high-end and you don’t get the same level of luxury, but in terms of quality, it’s all there. This thing was built to last and you can feel it from the moment you get in. The dashboard design is a little bland to my taste, but there’s so much going on you forget about that almost immediately. The sporty wheel with a flat bottom was great, but we especially loved VW’s digital cockpit. Although similar to the Audi Virtual cockpit, it has some distinctive differences and I liked the way it worked. It’s simple, clear to read and understand.

If possible, opt for VW’s Car-Net system as that gives you phone connectivity via Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or MirrorLink. The Fender Premium audio system is genuinely one of the best in the class, and after listening to it for the duration of our test drive, we wouldn’t hesitate to tick the little box next to it when ordering one.
80 ISSUE 13 / maqinaonline.com
Elsewhere, it’s the usual quality stuff from VW we’ve come to know and love. Comfy seats and plenty of space in all three rows. The Teramont has room for seven adults and their entire luggage, provided every passenger carries a single suitcase. Spaciousness and practicality are among the best in class. maqinaonline.com / ISSUE 13 81

Engine and Performance As you can probably guess, the Teramont gets VW’s top-performer four-cylinder TSI engine as a base unit. The 2.0-liter develops 220 horsepower and some 350 Nm of torque. The one we drove had the optional 3.6-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 361 Nm of torque. You can’t go wrong with either of them, but the V6 hustles the big Teramont’s chassis more effortlessly. And it sounds better. Both engines come with the brilliant 8-speed automatic transmission and are offered with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Although it’s not a hardcore off-roader by any stretch of the imagination, the Teramont is more than capable of holding its own on most trails. It won’t beat a Land Cruiser or a Range Rover, but it definitely surpasses the capabilities of most small to mid-size crossovers on the market.

“ IT DEFINITELY SURPASSES THE CAPABILITIES OF MOST SMALL TO MID-SIZE CROSSOVERS ON THE MARKET
”
This is a road car first and foremost, and it feels it. It’s aimed at people with families, and the ride quality reflects that. The Teramont soaks up the bumps with ease and controls its body roll really well. We were surprised how dynamically capable it turned out to be. It’s hard to phase it under normal driving conditions. For the most part, you’re not even aware you’re putting on the kilometers. It just eats up the road in front of you. After a full day’s worth of driving we got out without feeling the tiniest bit tired or cramped. Conclusion It’s another hit from VW, what else is there to say? This may sound a bit weird, but VW might have built the single greatest competitor to the Touareg in the form of the Teramont. It’s so capable and brilliant that you do wonder if you need to spend more on a Touareg.

The 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista is powered by a twin-turbocharged 32-Valve 3.9-liter V8 engine which is located in the middle of the car. This powertrain delivers 710 horsepower (529.45 Kw) and 770 Nm of torque. Compared to the 488 GTB, the Pista boasts 50 percent lighter powertrain components which include a light-weight crankshaft, lighter titanium connecting rods and improved exhaust manifold and intake system. Ferrari claims that there is a total of 176-pound weight reduction compared to the GTB. This in-turn improves the Pista’s aerodynamic efficiency and performance.
The overall weight of the Ferrari 488 Pista is 1,280 Kg which makes it about 90 Kg lighter than the 488 GTB. The front and rear diffusers are new as well as the vortex generators for better aerodynamics. Driving and Performance The track chosen for the test drive was Fiorano Circuit which is located in Fiorano Modenese, near the town of Maranello. It is definitely the perfect track to test drive the 488 Pista and experience its exhilarating performance first-hand. We started the supercar and quickly noticed that the engine automatically revs to 3000 rpm before taking off. The new Dynamic Enhancer (FDE) ensured that the grip around corners was swift while the outstanding Michelin Pilot Sports Cup 2 tires offered amazing road stability. Moreover, the Pista is equipped with the latest Side-Slip angle control system which also includes F1-Trac traction control, E-Diff3 electronic differential, and magnetorheological suspension. Since the track was empty, we drove it on the “Race Mode”, however on regular streets, you’ll feel as if the acceleration in this mode is too brutal.
IT’S A LARGE CAR, BUT IT ISN’T BULKY OR OVERWHELMING ON THE ROAD
Exterior I like the way the G80 looks. I’ll start out by saying that. Genesis has got the proportions absolutely nailed. It’s a large car, but it isn’t bulky or overwhelming on the road. The long elongated hood, the long overhangs, the extended sloping roofline… everything has been designed to make the car as elegant and flowing as possible. If you like a car that’s a bit understated but still has lots of presence, the G80 Sport offers exactly that. The front fascia is dominated by this huge grille just below the Genesis logo. The front bumper is flanked by large air dams on each side, and a pretty substantial opening at the bottom too. The headlights do have some Mercedes-Benz-like elements, but they’re completely bespoke units. It’s a weird mix between luxury and sportiness. A good type of weird mix.

Thanks to the exceptional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission system, we were able to accelerate the Pista 488 from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.85 seconds with a top speed of 340 km/h. Although the fuel efficiency is not considered in sports cars like these we still checked and noticed that it consumed an average of 11.5 liters per 100 kilometers.
Conclusion Overall, we believe that the Ferrari 488 Pista is in fact very pricey but only once you have taken a test drive yourself, you will understand the true spirit of this supercar. It is definitely worth every penny if you are a real speed enthusiast.

alk about luxury and the name Rolls Royce always come to mind. The brand has become a legacy over the years and that’s because they have stuck to what they do best and that is to create world-class luxury vehicles for the elite. Rolls Royce never wavered too far from the luxury segment, unlike other marques that experimented too much and lost their way in the process. That’s why they have become a specialist in the luxury segment. We recently had the chance to experience Rolls Royce’s brilliance when we drove a Rolls Royce Phantom through the streets of Doha. Indeed, it was something we were looking forward to. Overview The Rolls Royce Phantom is one of the brightest stars in the company’s roster. The model first came into existence in the early 20th century and it has been in production on/off since then. The car is the epitome of luxury given that it has been carefully crafted and bettered over the years to become what it is today. Nothing feels best than a leisurely drive in a Phantom on a hot sunny day in Doha.

Exterior We had decided to take the car out for a spin during midday when the traffic is minimal and the roads are perfect for experiments like ours. We were scheduled to pick up the Phantom by 12 pm but we couldn’t contain our excitement and ended up arriving an hour early to the pick-up location. The decision proved to be fruitful as we were able to have plenty of time on our hands to inspect the car and adore it shining under the bright sun. The Phantom exudes class from every angle. The car is a bit boxy from the front but we are not complaining. The look suits the Phantom, it has very simple straight lines on its hood that lead to the roof but that is about it. Luxury cars do not usually have hard lines that hint at a car’s speed, instead, they are very nice and straightforward when it comes to design. The 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom or any Rolls Royce, in general, is discernible thanks to its large grille, small headlamps, and a protruding emblem. If it is all so elegant, what is all the hype about? Well, it is the interior where all the magic happens.

THE CAR IS NOT JUST SILENT AND POLITE BUT IT CAN GIVE SOME SPORTS CARS A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY IF IT IS TEASED
Engine & Performance Under the hood of 2018, Rolls Royce Phantom is a 6.7-liter V12 that makes 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. All this power goes through to the rear wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. We don’t know about you, but this sounds like too much power not to be tested to the limit. That’s why once we had a clear road ahead of us, the pedal was pushed to the metal and we heard the engine roar like a beast awoken from its slumber. The Phantom rushed forward like a supercar. This shows that the car is not just silent and polite but it can give some sports cars a run for their money if it is teased. That is evident from the fact that the new model is capable of hitting 62 mph from a standstill in 5.3 seconds. The top speed is set at 155 mph, though we doubt anyone will ever go that fast or be tempted to go that fast in a Phantom – we sure were stoked!

Conclusion
Before we went out for a test drive we spent some quality time peeking inside the 2018 Phantom. It took us a bit of time to absorb the luxury and elegance of the interior, after all, it is not every day that you get to sit and drive in a highly expensive car made available to only a few individuals. We had the chance of driving the white colored Phantom and so we had a gaze inside its interior, which is nothing short of being exquisite. The white colored theme from the outside follows into the interior of the car. The leather seats are all bathed in the whitest white with the stitching and seams contrasted in black color. However, that is not the highlight of the interior, the dash is. The dash is very interestingly crafted. The designers have used a mixture of wood accents, white and black color to really make the dash pop out. Once you sit inside the car, it really becomes the center of attention and that is why Rolls Royce has paid a lot of attention to it. The upper-most portion is very futuristic and modern with a driver display and infotainment display being its crown jewel. Instead of a shift stick, you get a knob to change to different driving modes. The luxury really comes out at the back portion of the car. Both the two front seats have a foldable lid, which when opened brings out a screen for entertainment purposes. However, we were anxious to see what this car can really do when it is put up to the test, so we finally got in and went out on the road.
The 2018 Rolls Royce Phantom is a luxury car of the highest degree. It really stands equal if not above its competition in all aspects. We certainly think, that after driving this car, there could be nothing more exciting. After all, everything that a car enthusiast dreams of can be found in this car. Luxury to the highest extent, a performance that matches some supercars and a look that is unmistakably elegant. Sure, being driven around in a Rolls Royce Phantom is exciting but after driving the car ourselves, we must say that driving the car is another experience completely. There is so much power to exploit and so much fun to be had. That is only if the Phantom was easily available for everybody. The car costs almost half a million dollars and is only sold to a select few. Having said that, we consider ourselves to be fortunate enough to live the true Rolls Royce experience.

ercedes – Benz has a very rich history of making cars. The brand started off its operations in the 1920s and since then they have produced a number of exciting sports and luxury cars. Mercedes never fails to amaze, their successful experiments in every car segment have led them to extend their outreach in all directions. However, they are still best known for their luxury sedans like the S-class and the E-class. We got the chance of testing one but instead of a sedan, we went with the E200 Coupe. Overview The 2018 E200 Coupe has changed only a little bit from its older model. Although look wise the 2018 model is pretty much the same, it is wider, longer and taller than its predecessor and it was pretty evident when we first made our way towards it. We couldn’t wait to take the coupe out for a spin, so we canceled lunch and decided to go straight out on the road for a test drive.

Interior
We arrived at the pickup spot right on time and found the car standing right in front of us in all its glory. The E200 is a treat to watch and even though it was not easily discernable from its predecessor, we were quick to find a few distinguishing factors for the new coupe. The front has been redesigned to give the car a wider look, while the back is a bit disappointing. At the rear Mercedes really misses to give out that exquisite connected look that can be found on the S-class. The rear glass looks a bit out of place as it connects with the roof and then the panoramic sunroof. Other than that, the car looks pretty balanced in terms of design.
Once we were done adoring the exterior of the E200, we made our way inside the cabin to get a good feel for the exquisite material used inside. At first glance, the interior looks soft, that’s a good thing because Mercedes is looking to create a pleasant atmosphere for those who sit inside. The full-leather interior warmly greets you when you set foot in the car.
“
IT IS WIDER, LONGER AND TALLER THAN ITS PREDECESSOR
”
The dash is pretty modern and it is composed in such a way that the infotainment system and the driver’s display screen look to be one whereas they are separate. There is no shift knob, instead, you are given buttons and knobs to navigate between the different driving modes of the car. Driving around the Doha downtown was a pleasant experience until we got stuck in some unusual traffic. We later found out that an unfortunate accident had taken place a few hundred meters ahead of us. While we were stuck, there was no other way to kill boredom other than to listen to our favorite tunes on the radio. Once that was turned on, we were transported to another world.
We noticed that the sound system produced great quality crisp sound. When the radio got boring, we switched between Android Auto and Apple CarPlay just to check both the modes and they worked exceptionally well. All this is a part of the Command infotainment system introduced by Mercedes – Benz. Navigating around the city was a piece of cake thanks to the Satnav that comes with the Command Infotainment system. For when you really get bored and you want to set the mood, you can use the ambient lighting function that can be changed to any one of the 64 colors. There is certainly a lot on offer from Mercedes in the E200 and so naturally we weren’t able to test everything but we got a glimpse of almost everything major and it was nothing short of amazing.

Engine & Performance The good thing about Doha is that you get a lot of empty roads when it is not the rush hour. Thanks to that, we were able to test the E200 coupe to see if it really delivers when put under pressure. The car has very large 20-inch wheels which can prove to be a nightmare if a car has poor suspension, however, with the E200 we weren’t able to feel anything. The suspension works very well even in Sport+ mode. The car overall, responds to every command you make, quick hard turns are a treat to make. Under the hood of the coupe is a 2.0 liter inline 4 engine that makes 180 horsepower and around 220 lb-ft of torque. Comparing this power output with other modern cars and competitors, we can say that the E200 is lacking but in every other aspect, the Mercedes – Benz E200 Coupe wins. The car is rear-wheel drive and helped by a 9-speed automatic transmission so you can imagine the amount of power you get in every gear shift. The transmission is silky smooth to an extent that you don’t even feel the gears shifting up and down. However, it’s the turns where you feel the most difference.
110 ISSUE 13 / maqinaonline.com
The car is a bit stiff when it comes to turns. You can feel the chassis is a bit rigid in a sense that when you turn the car it feels like a chore. It should just move in any direction you want it to flexibly, but not everything can be perfect about a car. After all, such problems are considered to be huge when we talk about track racing, but the E200 is meant to be driven as a daily, so it can be forgiven. Conclusion We spent a good 2 hours with the E200 coupe and not one second of it was less than exciting, from enjoying the exterior of the car to dancing to our favorite tunes in the lush interior the coupe did not disappoint. Its engine feels a bit underpowered but we hope that Mercedes – Benz will look after that aspect in the upcoming model. In essence, the Mercedes – Benz E200 Coupe is a classy car. We fell so much in love with it that we can’t wait to test out the new model.

Ferrari’s first mid-engined V8 product was introduced in 1975. The 308 is where the modern Ferrari Berlinetta bloodline truly begins. The product boasts Pininfarina styling, a 255bhp 2.5-litre V8, and originally, a Lotus-style glass-fibre body, (only later did Ferrari switch to metal panels). Ferrari fans could select between the Coupe (GTB) or Targa (GTS) models.
1985
328 GTB
Just as the 488 GTB is based, under the skin, on the 458, the 328 was a revised 308. Maranello enhanced the ‘Tipo’ V8 to 3.2 litres, liberating another 15bhp, and added what was then a cutting edge ABS. 7,400 Ferrari 328s were produced by the time the model was replaced by the new 348 in 1989, bringing the total for the 308/328 generation to nearly 20,000.
1989
348
The 348 owes its name to its powerful 3.4-litre V8 engine, offering 300bhp, to comfortably outdo the competition of the era. Its Testarossa-inspired design was a tribute to the vibrant design tastes of the time, indeed technically, the 348 was more closely related to its big brother Testarossa than the 328. The V8 engine had been turned 90 degrees to be mounted longitudinally and set lower in the chassis. The sweet V8 had been expanded to 3.4-litres and now boasted an additional 30bhp. And this, coupled with the much improved aerodynamics, meant that the baby Ferrari was now capable of 170mph.

With a full 8,500 revs available, the market was responsive to its speed and responsiveness. It shared many of the dimensions of the 348, but the body and sculpting was all new. It is still revered today as one of the great Prancing Horse products of all time. 1999

The F430 features a few Enzo Ferrari hypercar influences. The brand’s F1 inspiration was also starting to become evident, with faster gearshift times, optional ceramic brakes, a greater focus on aerodynamics and an electronically controlled E-differential. The 480bhp F430 was the first Ferrari to be fitted with the now familiar Manettino switch.

Modena
Ferrari partnered with Alcoa to produce an entirely new all aluminium space-frame chassis that was 40% stiffer than the F355 which had utilized steel. Along with a lightweight frame the new Pininfarina body styling deviated from traditions of the previous decade’s sharp angles and flip-up headlights. The new V8 engine, common to all versions, utilizes a 3.6 litre capacity and generates 395 bhp. According to Ferrari weight was reduced by 60 kg and the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration performance improved from 4.7 to 4.5 seconds. Media noted that the 360 Modena press car was “ludicrously quick and sounded more like Schumacher’s weekend wheels than a street car.” 2003
360 Challenge Stradale
Literally ‘Challenge Street’ in honour of Ferrari’s one-make race series, the 360CS was the car that set a trend for a new lightweight Ferrari. The 420bhp makes this model the father of the Scuderia and Speciale models.

F430 430 Scuderia
Shedding 100kg, and gaining 20bhp on the F430, the Scuderia was capable of 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, introduced as a faster, lighter version of the F430. Fitted with the ‘Superfast2’ semi-automatic transmission, Ferrari claimed it was as quick as an Enzo round the Fiorano test track. This car was introduced at a time when the brand was experiencing up to two year waiting lists for the F430, and demonstrates Maranello’s unbridled enthusiasm for introducing new cars out of passion, not necessity.

SCUDERIA Spider 16M
The spider version of the Scuderia was created to celebrate Ferrari’s 16th Formula 1 Constructors title. The Spider boasted all of the F430’s stunning technology, itself the product of a close working relationship with Ferrari’s Gestione Sportiva F1 racing division. The F430 Spider’s all-aluminium bodywork was also carefully strengthened to guarantee both occupant safety and the structural rigidity demanded by a high performing car. The fully automatic hood and folds away under its own flush-fitting tonneau cover, allowing Ferrari’s engineers to carefully hone the aerodynamics of the car with the hood down.

458 Italia
Launched in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 458 was the all-new successor to the F430. The 4.5-litre engine produces 562bhp, propelling the 458 to 60mph in 3.2 seconds. Faster than the Scuderia around a circuit, the wondrous 458, complete with that aero-elastic winglet, is considered one of Ferrari’s greatest achievements.

458 Speciale
Somehow, the Speciale tops with 458 Italia with an output of 597bhp, an extraordinary achievement that it manages with ease. Thanks to shedding 100kg and with the addition of yet more active aerodynamics, the car is able to pull 1.3G under acceleration. The 458 Speciale allowed Ferrari to win in two categories at the prestigious International Engine of the Year Awards for the fifth consecutive year.

SITTING DISEASE
By: Dr. Marie Abou Rached
James Levine, the author of Move a little, Lose a Lot, says:
“Human beings evolved as a walking entity, exploring the world on our feet”
History During the Stone Age, man used to be a hunter and a gatherer who walks or runs for about 12 miles per day. Thousand years ago man used to keep animals and to farm. This tough labor consumes lot of calories per day. Within the industrial era, machines substituted several hard manual tasks. Therefore, the daily amount of physical activity became limited. Nowadays, the information age is involving computers in most of the fields. Consequently, working on a computer for long hours, increases the sedentary activity and leads for sitting disease. What is a sitting disease? The term sitting disease has been highlighted during the information age where most of employees sit in front of their computers to execute their work for long hours. However, most of the population believes that exercising one hour a day for five times a week is enough to have a healthy life style. The reality is working out as described above won’t be enough to prevent having sitting disease syndromes. According to studies followed for several years, an increase of two-hour in daily TV viewing leads to 23% increase of obesity, each 2 hours sitting at work leads to 5 % jump of obesity also sedentary behavior increases the risk of type 2 diabetes by 14%. On January 2010, Australian researchers reported that the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease is increased by 18% for each hour spent on watching TV. People that sit for long hours and have insufficient physical activity during their day are at higher risk for: - Cardiovascular disease. - Diabetes. - Blood clots - Obesity. - Cancer - Premature death.

What are the recommended solutions? A study, published in 2015, in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology recommends adding 2-3 minutes of physical activity (walking/ stretching/ bending or turning) to every sitting hour. These 2 minutes of light to moderate activity may reduce by 33% the risk of dying. Light activity will boost the value of the health “capital” as much as you do it often during the day and every day. How to add more physical activity to our days: -The golden rule is to sit less and to move every so often by following the 20-8-2 rule. Scientists suggest, that for every 20 minutes of sitting (at work or at home), to stand for eight minutes and to move for two minutes. - Standing and walking for few min each hour will reduce lower back pain and muscle stiffness also will increase the level of energy. - Counting steps by using a pedometer is a great motivator to get up and to move at least 5000 steps per day. - Setting an alarm every hour will remind you to stand up and to move more often. -Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking over to a colleague’s desk instead of sending email, will add more steps to your daily routine. - Find excuses to get out of your office frequently by placing printer outside of your office, going to drink in the kitchen instead of having a bottle of water on your desk. - Add more steps by parking the car far from your office. Have a longer walk to arrive home. Take your pet for a longer walk in the evening. - Conduct meeting, make phone/ conference calls while walking. -Have 30 minutes of dynamic activity for 5 times a week.
Aiming for a better and a healthier life style, we recommend to intentionally setting a plan to move frequently so it becomes a habit. It’s time to start with the first step.

Professional Tips to Maintain Your
CAR
MAWATER MAN
TIPS ENGINE OIL is one of the most important components that keeps your engine running, as it lubricates the moving parts inside the engine to reduce friction, and absorbs the heat from the engine.
Changing the oil on time keeps your engine healthy and last longer. Most people think that changing the oil should take a place only when the recommended mileage is reached. Every 5,000 or 10,000 or even 15,000 km. That rule only applies if you use your car to take you from point A to point B with a very normal driving behavior. Whereas the perfect time to change oil should be determined by both the mileage and your driving style. A BMW for example would sense how hard the car is being driven, and adjust the oil life monitor accordingly. If you put the pedal to the metal in a BMW a couple of times or let the engine idle for a long time, the oil life would decrease more than if you’re cruising down the high way. Therefore:
{
IF
you have a heavy foot and enjoy hearing your engine roar its way up to the rev limiter. you are a Karak head and stay in your car for hours enjoying countless cups of Karaks while keeping your engine idle. you tow heavy loads in your tow rig most of the time. you spends hours daily of city driving with alot of stop and go traffic. you drive in dusty conditions like work sites.
You need to consider changing the oil every couple of months even if you haven’t reach the recommended mileage for changing it. Putting such loads on the engine would raise up the oil temperature and make it lose its life dramatically, as it becomes thicker, and lose its ability to lubricate well. One oil change delay after another, the oil pump goes bad, and your engine becomes ready for an overhaul. Finally, never leave your car without an oil change for more than 6 months no matter how low the mileage you have put on it. Even when the engine is not running the oil gets affected by the atmosphere and humidity and would lose its lubricant characteristics.
