MESSAGE V I NICLUS LUMMERTZ, President of Embratur

The magic of the Brazilian Carnival charms people all over the world, and in the United States, it

couldn't be difTerent. This season ilia de Janeiro, just like its icon Christ the Redeemer, has its arms \vidc open once morc to welcome North -American tourists. Tt is the perfect opportunity to escape from the freezing American winter and appreciate the best of the Brazilian summer, enjoying a caipi1"inha and listening to the rbythn1 of samba.

The Brazilian Carnival is already part of the North-,.\mcrican popular imagination. The colors, sparkles, rhythm, and dancing have already been the subject of major Hollywood productions, like the an imated feature film Rio, directed by Carlos Saldanha. The desire to see, feel, and experience all ofthese emotions lip close is natural. The Samba Schools' Parade at Marques do Sapucaf and the street party blocks arc the highlights of the city this time of the year, but we have big news: Kow it is easier and cheapn to travel to Brazil. The electronic visa for North-American tourists has been released recently, and with this feature, it is possible to issue the documenr in up to 72 hours for only US$ 40.00. ~ow Brazil is even lighter and needs less . paperwork, just like the welcoming people in Rio. In addition to the charisma of the people on the streets, good weather, and astonishing beaches, the city is ready. Huge investments have been made on the last years in infrastructure and hotel chain. The \Vorld Cup and Olympic Games Sllccess reflects this reality. There are no excuses for not visiting Rio dc Janeiro during Carnival. And r guarantee there will be no regrets as well. •
