Grangers are Musicians
Music - Vision A Grange Primary, we believe that music education should engage, inspire and nurture children’s talent as musicians. The power of music can increase self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
Music - Implementation • Music is taught from Nursery to Year 6 using the award-winning scheme Kapow. • Kapow supports all the statutory requirements for the National curriculum for Music in England in full. The scheme provides week by week lessons for every year group in school – ensuring a progression of skills and knowledge as they develop as musicians. • The scheme has been shown to have a positive effect the quality of music teaching and pupil attainment in music.
Music – The Wider Curriculum We recognise that it is important for Grangers to receive a varied and fresh musical diet to ensure exposure to all genres. We are constantly seeking out opportunities to make links across the curriculum, expose children to new musical genres/instruments and engage children’s curiosity about music. Some of the extra music provision at Grange has included • Performances in assembly from a range of ensembles such as rock and pop and brass bands. • Musical theatre performances. • The opportunity to learn a musical instrument. • Whole class musical instrument tuition in selected year groups. • Working with local secondary schools to access specialist teachers. • Whole school singing and Pip's Songbirds - extra-curricular club
Music – Celebrations
• Music plays a vital part in how we celebrate events throughout the school year. • All children come to together to take part in concerts for a range of special events such as Christmas, Easter and Class assemblies.
Music – Impact High quality music provision
supports Grangers to recognise their potential as musicians and to enjoying music more, in and out of school. At Grange Primary, impact is seen in the progress children make throughout the units provided by Kapow. This is monitored and overseen by the Music subject lead.
