Profile With a few student awards under my belt and 2 years of experience in award winning practices I am keen to find a position where I can progress to my part 3. I’m a very hard working individual and I hope this can be seen throughout my portfolio and awards. I never settle for mediocrity but rather strive to do the best I possibly can and I will naturally bring this mentality with me to the workplace.
MARC LLADO HILLIS Part II Architectural Assistant
AC HIE VEME N T S
Since school, I’ve been passionate about design as well as subjects like maths and physics: I thoroughly enjoy problem solving and making things look good at the same time. These characteristics translate perfectly into a part 2 position where you will get an employee who is hard working and enjoys the technical details as well as the presentation and aesthetics of the job.

Part I YEAR OUT 2014 - 2015 Marc Kilkenny Architects 14 months full time
During my time at MK-A, I helped produce CAD drawings for projects and worked closely with the project architect from planning through to construction. I created 3D and 2D visualisations from sketches and concepts. I was heavily involved in the production of bespoke interior items and helped resolve issues and revisions due to cost saving or structural amendments. I also continually conversed with clients and suppliers via email and phone. I was grateful to be part of a talented micro firm that allowed me to take on as much responsibility as possible during my year out in industry.

Part I Experience
Marc Kilkenny - Architects
During my time at Marc Kilkenny - Architects, I was largely involved with the refurbishment of a Victorian school for the advertising agency, Boys and Girls. The nature of the client, combined with the visions of design architect, Marc Kilkenny, led the project into trying and testing many conceptual design features throughout. As one of two full time members of staff, I was heavily involved in every project within the firm. Although Boys and Girls were our main focus, we also worked on two sports centres, some innovative small scale residential work and a range of feasibility studies. Being part of a micro firm meant I had maximum responsibility as a Part I which accelerated my learning significantly. By the end of my year experience,
I had; comfortably conversed with clients, contractors and suppliers; tendered jobs and outsourced makers to create bespoke interior items; Modelled options in both 2D and 3D platforms; worked closely with suppliers to generate construction details; Compiled drawing packs for planning, warrant and construction across multiple projects. I was able to contribute right across the RIBA plan of works from stages 0 through to 7. Overall, it was an outstanding firm to be involved with and it threw me into the deep end with nothing but determination to keep me afloat. MK-A created a unique and joyful experience in the final design for the Boys and Girls offices that translated to an equally unique and joyful part 1 year out in industry.

The Scottish Scenic Routes Initiative
The RSPB had been granted the money from the Scottish Scenic Routes to find a student to design and build a structure for their new paths, that meander through their site in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
THIRD PLACE
The project was originally worked on by a previous year however the RSPB did not take the design further, they then set out to give another student a shot at designing their project. The brief was simply a viewpoint to Ben Lomond, however, I wanted to further develop the brief; during my first meeting with the clients, they explained how their site was of particular importance to the them because of the highland boundary in the distance, allowing for highland and lowland species of wildlife on their doorstep. I immediately knew this had to be the focus of the design. My proposal demonstrated my determination to go above and beyond by furthering the clients aspirations for the project. The Scenic Routes project has been a great opportunity to learn about architectclient relationships, contractors, project managing, financing/budgeting, and hands on building work. A favourite modernist architect of mine, Jorn Utzon, once said that architects must understand their materials if they wish to do great things with them; I therefore hope this hands-on project allowed me to better understand timber construction.

Freelance Graphics
I have worked as a freelance graphic designer during my studies. I chose to utilise my creative nature to earn spending money whilst at university instead of the usual part time job my peers were pursuing. I advertised myself on Gumtree and got an increasing amount of attention as my folio began to
grow. Last year, the company “swipii offered me a job as their out of house graphic designer where I produced graphics for their blog. By using my own initiative to find work suited to my skill set, I hope I demonstrate independence as well as determination.
