This was a project that was part of a bigger scale development project designed to upgrade the area which is a degraded neighbourhood in the heart of Cairo ,where one of the oldest crafts is mastered which is tanning leather, as well as the ancient aqua duct passing through this area and creating a social crack that its essence is similar to many in the Egyptian society. In this project we were proposing several projects to enhance the living standards and capitalize on the human resources to create a new centre for Egypt and the world that teaches, enhances and promote the authentic human resources this area has, as well as all Egyptians.

1

After deciding to base our intervention on the human resources, the sex projects described above were proposed and my selection was the transportation hub, as it strongly relates to my beliefs and ideologies regarding development and effect on an urban scale.

Studies

Above are the different studies that explain the building and the way it was designed to achieve hyper-functionality as well as best traffic control in relation to the different modes of transportation to avoid cross circulation and allow it in the desired areas.

In order to start properly we need to learn the basics that was passed on from generations correctly. To make better use of the talents already existing in the site, and by that we are going back to the roots of our culture and making a strong base to develop up on. The positioning of our project on the site, and specifically for the vocational center it bridges the people of kerdasa from the crowded, old space to the new and open world.

This project was part of a three project program to develop and solve a problem related to the KERDASA area in Egypt, where the three projects were a Vocational Training center, a production line and an Exhibition space. Each project is meant to help the other in a handing over the people of the area from one stage to the other. Other than the focus on the heritage loss that was focused on, in the Vocational Training center the whole development was aiming to migrate the people of kerdasa from the congested area they are living in to the outskirts of their city.

Why Tensegrity?

The structure system needs to show that we are branching out to the world. The system is supposed to show the world the value of this area, how rich in materials it is, and how can we turn this potential to opportunity. The system provides the ideology needed which an organized chaos, the members give the impression of instability while being a fully functional and stable one PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT

Re Concept

All work was done collaboratively as a team, with equal input from the three members of the group.

The main concern of our design is to provide the best orientation, Natural ventilation and view to all the available units. The design enhances walkability: the pedestrian paths are all connected to each other in the form of a closed loop further enhancing the safety and security of the residents. Moreover, the pedestrian network is extended to the periphery of the site in order to have a peripheral walkway emphasizing the view of the island.

9

Studies Island’s formation

Accessibility: Having the site consisting of two islands in the middle of the Mediterranean, resulted in having only one main access from the neighbouring land, from which sub-roads are branched. Topography: The site has 7 different topographic levels, allowing each unit to enjoy the view as well as to benefit from the prevailing wind direction. Cluster configuration: The orientation of the units to allow for maximum natural ventilation as well as good sea view, has determined the cluster design and the placement of the units. Circulation: Vehicular circulation is separated from the pedestrian network to facilitate the ease of transportation for both the cars and the pedestrians It is also taken into consideration to have the streets away from blocking the view and away from the pedestrians’ walks to enhance pedestrian’s safety Combining the vehicular, pedestrian and clusters network forms together the central place which act as the club house.

Re Concept

The Mixed Use Development is composed of: -Hotel -Commercial Centre -Recreational and Entertainment facilities -Offices -Residential Buildings

.

All work was done collaboratively as a team, with equal input from the three members of the group.

The Design goals were set to be:

-Responding to the existing urban fabric; by creating rectilinear forms But also -Corresponding to the river Nile; by rearrangement of the rectilinear forms to create flowing shapes/forms vertically as well as horizontally

13

Studies After conducting the site analysis to the site and weighing in all the pros and cons, the grid shown to the right was noticed and studied, developed and analysed to provide us with our main grid for design, seen underneath it To the right is the altered grid that covers the whole plot with a module of 30x42 m which is the smallest urban grain available on site which will be the smallest module in the design of this development.

Hierarchy of Heights

14

Suitability maps Suitability maps are used to determine the best location for the type of activity, without taking into consideration the to the other activities. Then the maps are compiled above each other and solved according resulting in the mix of the activities and uses we have.

Models

Layout

Each mass was studied separately to decide the it’s heigh and how it rises in relation to the uses and the surroundings.

Seeing the library is a channel of data stored in a container of knowledge, where the users travel to expand their knowledge. Thus, this channel should be able to perform accordingly, as a place where the data travels into the users mind, during his journey.

With the passive technique of performative design, which will allow the form to morph it self to perform according to the need of the building, we can achieve the maximum possible functionality

Models The Library is respecting the azhar by disappearing in the ground to allow the azhar to prevail over the open space, and deliver its knowledge trough the CHANNEL of the Library.

The form created was a result of the usage of topography, environmental aspects, as well as the zoning of spaces.

As mentioned in the title this a restoration project from my experience in Module designers office. The Villa is a 102 years old, and was built using a wall bearing system on time increments and each addition was done by a different architect. As seen on this page we show how we re-imagine the Villa with a few additions to compliment the architecture of the building.

All work shown for this project is the product of my design inputs, modeling and renderings.

The work done by myself for this villa was the design and modelling of the extensions as well as the modelling of the villa with as much details as possible. Also the extensions to the pool areas were designed modelled and rendered by myself along with the landscape design. The Last task I was assigned with in this project was some interior modelling shown in the shots on the right.

The design task I was assigned in this project was to develop a 3-D presentation to a 52 floor tower that will accommodate offices, residential units and commercial area. The tower is going to be built in Umraniye, Turkey. Their was three proposals proposed, from which the one below the text was chosen and developed as the diagrams describe.

The Design task assigned was to develop a proposal for a mixed use development along 2 kilometres of the coast of the city Larnaca in Cyprus, where programmatic elements were somehow defined and an initial zoning was proposed. The following step was the design of the main programmatic attractions and concepts which were to make an iconic, fluid gateway in and out of the city through our project.

Phase 1 Studies My role here was the preliminary designs, and leading a team of 2 architects and 2 graphic designers in producing the shown work while producing some of it individually as well.

As seen above the initial focus was the first phase of the project, which included several programs and design elements shown by the colour codes given which was part of the main part of the proposal made at this point.

23

The Abstraction of the originally rigid coastline was the first step in designing the master plan, and the above abstraction was the result which lead to the previous layout.

Theses paintings were all part of my studies through high school, as part of my IGCSE Art classes preparations, and course work. The reason their is so much food in my drawings, is because my final exam topic was to draw a sandwich on a plate, for which I had to practice with several media and styles shown.
