What I learnt about technologies

Pre-production stage For this stage, the key decisions were to use a digital camera to take photos for my recci task. It allowed me to form ideas about my production such as, the type of location it will be recorded at. This form of digital imaging technology was very beneficial. It was simple to use in terms of taking pictures for potential locations. All I had to click was a button in order to take a photograph. I've learnt that this was a major practical advantage because it was portable and quick to carry out.

I also used another digital imaging technology on a phone with a camera and recorded my audience research. This form of new media technology allowed me to film my interviews of my voxpop. The benefit was that it is technologically converged which means I could receive sound and video images at the same time. I've learnt that this is handy as it does not waste time because I had easy access to it. However, there were slight issues with uploading it into a movie file because it was incompatible with computers that were not macs. Therefore, I had to use a file converter to change it into an AVI format. This was a disadvantage.

Lastly, I used a computer for multi-purposes. This form of new media technology allowed me to research on existing British social realism films as I looked at various opening sequences. By using social networking platforms such as, YouTube I analysed generic conventions and the technical aspects such as the use of sound, camera, editing and mise-en-scene. It also gave me secondary information such as, the budgets and producers. More importantly, I used uploading technology to

publish my work onto my blog. The use of the online software, Issuu allowed me to transfer power point slides onto my blog.

Production & Post-Production

Similarly, I used uploading technology for these stages. For example, the use of the YouTube upload tool allowed me to publish my opening sequence onto my blog. I successfully did this by using the editing program called Final Cut Edit. It allowed me to layer video clips, sound and titles. For my evaluation, I used Issuu to upload a PowerPoint regarding the impact of the film four media institution. The use of digital cinematography was another form of new media technology. The use of a high definition camera allowed me to record video and Foley sound. The benefit of this technologically converged gadget is recorded an excellent quality. I also used this to record a part of my evaluation. An example would be my joint task explaining the type of target audience for my film. However, the disadvantage of this was that it was quite time-consuming. Uploading my movie files took a great amount of time. Altogether, I learnt that filming should be carried out more effectively. I tried to avoid refilming to avoid this issue.
