A day to remember
Senior Sergeant Kyell Palmer salutes fallen colleagues at the Police Remembrance Day march last Friday in Atherton.
Officers, family and community members gathered on Friday to remember and honour Police who lost their lives in the line of duty An emotional tribute was made to members of the Tablelands Police Service last Friday during a service in Atherton that honoured fallen officers. National Police Remem-
brance Day (NPRD) is an annual event that recognises the unique nature of the police service and the dangers police face in their daily pursuits. Arguably one of the most
important days on the policing calendar, National Police Remembrance Day is a time for members of the Service and the Community to remember, honour and say ‘thank you’ together
to the dedicated men and women who have died whilst on duty. National Police Remembrance Day has been held in regional centres throughout Queensland since 1989.
National Police Remembrance Day is observed annually in September as it marks the Feast of Saint Michael (the Archangel), Patron Saint of Police, who fought great evil.
Marches and services were held throughout Queensland on Friday, September 28 as well as locally in Atherton at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. PHOTOS P7
