Students, schools and communities across the region came alive with characters last week to celebrate Book Week. The week long annual event is a celebration of books written for young people and hopes to inspire a love of reading. The events and activities during the week connect readers with books and celebrate the joy of reading – it brings children and books together by celebrating the wonders and fun of exploring the world of books. This year’s theme was ‘Reading is my secret power’ and for Mareeba State High School the Library was swarmed with students dressed up as their favourite book characters last Friday. Students had a chance to show off their knowledge of their favourite characters plus some handy arts skills in the creation of their characters.
