Getting fit all in the mind TABLELANDERS who’ve always wanted to shed some unwanted kilos and get fit are being urged to give it a go.

Whether it’s running, cycling or working out, a fitness craze seems to be sweeping the region with an endless amount of activities, boot camps and competitions being held throughout the year.

But Atherton CrossFit HBZ and Mareeba CrossFit HBZ 4880 co-owners Tommy Blain and Simon Cockrem said the hardest step for aspiring fitness fanatics was getting through the front door.

“Make it happen, make a decision and don’t be afraid to start,” Mr Blain said.

“Most of the time it’s that anxiety of failure that will stop people stepping out of their com-

fort zone.”

Mr Blain said a consistent training regime, such as exercising half-an-hour to an hour at least three to four times a week, was also important to build a solid routine.

“Stay positive, you’ve got to find ways to keep yourself motivated,” he said.

“Whether that’s a sticker on a wall or bringing a friend along, you’ve got to find ways to keep yourself going in the gym, on the walking trail or the pushbike.”

Mr Blain said those serious about getting fit needed to cut out processed food and sugar, replacing it with fresh foods such as lean meats and vegetables.

“You can’t out-train a crappy diet and you won’t perform as well as you want to,” he said.

MAREEBA’S mangoes keep getting bigger and better.

Another two entries into The Express’ KP Mango Competition have tipped the scales at more than 1kg.

Blue Sky Produce farmer/manager Matt Fealy and the Myrteza family have each submitted Kensington Pride mangoes weighing in at 1.06kg and 1.01kg respectively.

Mr Fealy, who found social media fame when he discovered a 1.44kg fruit known as “Mangozilla” in December 2014, said he stumbled across the mini monster after spotting it on his desapper machine last month.

“The desapper’s quite impressive when it’s full of mangoes and this one just stood out,” he said.

“It’s kind of like Mangozilla’s offspring.

“We found it on December 21. We started getting our rain on December 22, so had this stayed on the tree for another week, who knows what it would have got to.”

Mr Fealy said he loved being able to promote Tablelands’ agriculture.

“The mango season is hard work and it’s stressful…This just adds a bit of fun and promotes a bit of healthy competition in the region,” he said.

Mr Fealy said if he won the competition, he would use the prize money to pay off his

hefty Christmas credit card bill.

Meanwhile, Haji Myrteza, who farms cane, chickens and mangoes at his father John’s Gilmore Rd property, said one of his fruit pickers came across their big entry last Tuesday.

“It was just on knock off time on one of our last rows,” he said.

“We’ve had big mangoes in the past and I think the rain’s really helped fill the fruit right out.”

Held annually by The Express, Total Food Network and Mareeba District Fruit and Vegetable Grower’s Association (MDFVGA), the competition is open to all Tablelands farmers and backyard growers in a bid to see who can grow the region’s heaviest Kensington Pride mango.

All mangoes entered must be photographed on electronic scales, clearly displaying its weight and viewed by a member of The Express team or MDFVGA president Joe Moro.

Mangoes must not be tampered with in any way.

Entries close on January 31 with the winner to be announced at the end of the harvest season.

First place will win $500, second $300 and third $200.

RESIDENTS who witnessed a Tolga man fall into floodwaters desperately tried to rescue him before he was swept away to his death last week.

“They had done their very best to pull him out but had been unsuccessful,” Far North District Disaster Management Group executive officer Sergeant Bill Stanley told The Express.

“It shows the force of the water where he was swept away was quite significant.”

The Tablelands community is in mourning of well-known farmer Alfonso Muoio, who was found dead in the Barron River after falling off a rail bridge trying to redirect traffic away from raging floodwaters over the Kennedy Highway early last Wednesday night.

It is believed Mr Muoio slipped and fell into a causeway near Spring Creek about 5:45pm before being taken downstream seven kilometres into the river.

“There were witnesses who confirmed he went down the creek until they lost sight of him,” Sergeant Stanley said.

“He was doing his utmost to help members of the community when he got swept away.”

A frantic search by police, ambulance, SES and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services

swift water rescue teams followed that night before resuming on Thursday morning.

Queensland Government Air’s Cairnsbased Rescue 510 helicopter was also called in to help with the search on Wednesday night but was hindered by bad weather.

Mr Muoio’s body was found by a family friend flying a private helicopter about 11am Thursday, barely 60m from the mouth of Spring Creek.

Emergency services were deployed to the location soon after he was spotted to recover Mr Muoio’s body.

“It was a professional effort from all agencies and a very committed effort to bring about a resolution as quickly as possible,” Sergeant Stanley said.

“The terrain was quite difficult too in places, it was rocky. There were a couple of emergency services personnel who did sustain injuries.”

It is not known exactly how Mr Muoio died – whether he drowned or was struck by an object - but police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Sergeant Stanley said Mr Muoio’s family was “absolutely devastated”.

“This is a terrible time for them and our hearts are with them,” he said.

Tablelands mayor Joe Paronella offered his condolences to the family and friends of Mr Muoio and reminded all residents to stay safe during flash flooding.

“It it’s flooded, forget it. Please stay away from rising waters and prepare for more inundations,” he said.

“Simple preparations include anchoring down anything that might float away. Move vehicles, outdoor equipment, garbage, chemicals and poisons to higher locations and plan which indoor items you will raise or empty if water threatens your home such as your fridge, TV or freezer.

“It is also important to safeguard your children, pets and livestock.”

TROUBLESOME: Atherton’s Main St bus stop will now not be upgraded.

TABLELANDS Regional Council has backflipped on its proposed upgrade of Atherton’s Main St bus stop after a backlash from local business owners.

At their April 14 meeting last year, council voted to apply to the Department of Transport & Main Roads’ (TMR) Translink Division for combined funding of $70,000 to upgrade the existing long distance bus stop along Main St for disability access.

The partnership offered a 50/50 funding contribution with council and TMR each contributing $35,000 to the project and was subsequently approved via a Deed of Agreement last financial year.

But the shelter upgrade raised the ire of local business owners nearby, livid at the fact it would require the removal of at least two existing car park bays, potentially impacting on trade.

last year, council voted to cancel joint funding for the upgrade at their December 22 meeting.

Arabella Jewellers owner Debbie Day, whose business is directly behind the bus stop, praised the backdown by council.

“I’m not happy it’s not being moved but I’m very happy it’s not going to be extended,” she said.

“We had enough trouble with it already without it becoming bigger and taking up more car parks.

“We want our businesses to thrive, not die.”

Just three doors down, Giddy’s Place manager Debbie Drury said there were already too few car parks in Main St without council getting rid of more.

“I’m not trying to take away from the bus, we all use it. We use it to send cakes to Croydon and Karumba but it’s got to be fair for all businesses,” she said.

While things had been quiet more recently, both Mrs Day and Ms Drury said the bus stop had become a magnet for antisocial behaviour, confirming there had been several incidents involving people

arguing, fighting, urinating and defecating in and around nearby stores.

“We’ve had people fighting out there, spitting, people hopping off night buses and going around the side of the shop and urinating,” Mrs Day said.

“We’ve had people peeing under the door…

I’ve had little old ladies come in here frightened because people are yelling and swearing out the front.

“Sometimes they bring the argument into your shop because they want you to ring the police.”

Ms Drury also blasted council’s consultation process over the bus stop upgrade as “lousy”.

“We had to call that meeting in November and ask questions,” she said.

Another two business owners The Express spoke to said they also supported council’s decision not to proceed with the bus stop upgrade.

Despite the backflip, Tableland mayor Joe Paronella denied there were major problems with anti-social behaviour at the bus stop and said the majority of locals supported the existing location and its upgrade.

“A few people have been quite vocal about it but I think if you got out and spoke to the general

public you would feel that’s the best place for the bus stop in Atherton because of the centralness of it,” he said.

While no decision has been made on an alternative location for an expanded bus stop, the proposed Priors Creek Redevelopment could be one option where the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) may also be relocated.

Deputy Mayor Katrina Spies said Priors Creek could be workable for the bus stop.

“The Prior’s Creek Precinct and the Visitor Information Centre are two crucial elements as to where you want the bus shelter to be,” she said.

“To me, it’s putting the cart before the horse to say let’s upgrade the existing shelter if we don’t take those things into account.”

Cr Spies said the bus stop upgrade would have only been a short-term fix and it made more sense to take a long-term view of where the best location would be considering the future strategic development of the town and traffic flows.

“You’ve got to look at the whole picture,” she said.

“I feel comfortable that the right decision’s been made.”

A RECORD crowd, perfect weather, top class racing and fabulous fashions created the perfect mix for a great day at the 2016 Mareeba Boxing Day races.

The popular race day drew a record crowd of more than 2300 people, as locals and visitors alike flocked to Mareeba Turf Club for a fun day of racing and fashions.

Club secretary John Thurlow was full of praise for the Boxing Day event.

“Race nominations and crowd numbers were up on last year, which was great,” he said.

“It was just a beautiful day, everyone enjoyed themselves and the day just keeps getting bigger and better every year.”

“It’s a great atmosphere and everyone comes here just to enjoy themselves and a lot of people use this day to catch up with friends at Christmas time.”

On track, a total of five races were held on the day, keeping the punters on their toes with exciting finishes.

Jockey Nor Yadi started off the day storming home on Rose of Clare in the BenchMark 65 Handicap (900m).

In race two of the day, the Lynette Vains QTIS Maiden Plate was won by Little Red Rocket with jockey Stephen Wilson aboard.

Terrasaurus, ridden by Ngarie Nelson, took out race three – the Class B Handicap (1123m) and Frank Edwards rode Compulsive Rocket home to win race four in the BenchMark 60 Handicap (1210m). The last race of the day, the BenchMark 50 Handicap (1500m) was won

by Phantom Sox ridden by jockey Manabu Kai. The excitement continued trackside where the fashions stakes were high. More than 200 entrants graced the main stage over several fashionable categories.

The guest Fashions on the Field judges had a hard time selecting winners in all categories, such was the high level of fashion on display from the kids, right through to the gents and ladies, who all put in considerable effort.

More than 55 marquees were booked for the day, with racegoers enjoying live entertainment with local band “Careless” and a water slide for the kids.

A highlight of the day was the “Human Horse” race which attracted alot of interest.

“It’s a great laugh and very popular,” Mr Thurlow said.

Mr Moro said the economic future was bright for the Tablelands.

“We’re definitely heading in the right direction and there’s good, healthy signs across the economy,” he said.

NYE idiots send cops into spin

THINK BEFORE YOUR DRINK: Tablelands police are out in force over the school holidays.

A CURSED car was caught four times by Tablelands police with a different drunk driver each time on New Year’s Eve. Police caught the first unlicensed and drunk driver, a 35-year-old man, in Atherton earlier that night with a blood alcohol reading of 0.188.

The same car was then intercepted shortly at Kuranda, this time with a 41-year-old drunk and unlicensed female behind the wheel recording a blood alcohol reading of 0.172.

Mareeba was the next stop for the troublesome car, again featuring a different driver who was under the legal alcohol limit but unlicensed.

A 28-year-old male was then caught a short while after, unlicensed and with a blood alcohol reading of 0.10.

All four drivers will attend court and police have impounded their vehicle.

The baffling spate of incidents join a total of 27 drink drivers and 15 drug drivers who were caught by police during the week before and the week after Christmas.

Despite the big haul, Mareeba Road Policing Unit Sergeant John Ridgway said most local drivers behaved themselves over the Christmas break.

“It really is a case of a few bad apples spoiling the bin,” he said.

“Most Tablelands road users conducted themselves in an exemplary manner over the Christmas period with dry drivers, courtesy buses, taxis and designated drivers appearing to be the norm.

“Driving whilst impaired by alcohol or drugs is dangerous and can have devastating effects on the lives of those involved.”

One in five fatal traffic crashes in 2015 involved a driver under the influence of alcohol or

drugs.

Meanwhile, Tablelands police are currently investigating a number of traffic crashes over the Christmas period, six of which involved moderate to serious injuries.

Motorists can expect to see more police on the roads as the Christmas Road Safety Campaign moves into gear across the state in the lead up to schools returning.

Six people lost their lives on Queensland roads during the “Festive Break” phase of the 12day operation, down from seven fatalities during last Christmas period.

There were 264 traffic crashes which resulted in injury, down eight per cent on the same period last Christmas,while the number of persons injured dropped 17 per cent.

Speeding offences were down 22 per cent

on last year including speed camera detections which also decreased 24 per cent.

Police conducted more than 137,000 Random Breath Tests (RBTs) and 2,094 Roadside Drug Tests (RDTs) with 697 alleged drink drivers intercepted and 367 motorists testing positive to illicit drugs.

“We want to ensure everyone has a happy and safe holiday and not one tarnished by road trauma,” Sergeant Ridgway said.

“We urge everyone to consider the Fatal Five contributing factors to road fatalities when getting behind the wheel of their vehicle.

“These include speeding, drink and drug driving, failing to wear a seatbelt, driving tired and being distracted such as using a mobile phone while driving.”

Ag loans reduce interest THE Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority (QRAA) has reduced its already low interest loans for primary producers heading into this year.

In effect since January 1, the new interest rates are 3.11 per cent for one year, 3.26 per cent for three years and 3.47 per cent for five years.

UNFAIR? A stoush has erupted over preferential treatment given to Atherton Hospital over Mareeba for patient services.

Health service denies neglecting Mareeba THE Cairns and Hinterland Hospital Health Service (CHHHS) has hit back at claims it is neglecting Mareeba hospital in favour of Atherton.

Despite local businessman Ross Cardillo claiming Mareeba saw 2800 patients compared to Atherton’s 1300 last October, that number was reversed by December when 432 patients were admitted to Mareeba compared to Atherton’s 554.

Atherton has long been regarded as the “largest referral centre on the Tablelands”, but the October patient figures threw fresh doubt on that claim.

A level 3 hospital, Mareeba provides specialist services including geriatrician, paediatrician consults, psychologist/neuro psychology, cardiology, general surgery consultation, and gynaecology and child and adult dental surgery.

Considered a level 3-4 hospital, Atherton provides several additional specialist services not available in Mareeba such as acute on-site services like chemotherapy and a High Dependency Unit.

Other services include endoscopy, an operating theatre with 24/7 on-call for obstetrics, and dialysis.

The CHHHS is currently developing the masterplan and business case for the redevelopment of the Atherton Hospital, which is expected to be complete by June.

But while Atherton undergoes a redevelopment of its emergency department and operating theatres, outpatient services at Mareeba could be one of those cut if the State Government does not make up a shortfall of about $2 million when the

existing Federal Council of Australian Governments (COAG) funding agreement runs out this October.

Outpatient services provide traditional GP services at the hospital for free under the Medicare Benefits Schedule.

But if no money is forthcoming to make up the $2 million shortfall, patients could be forced to use the town’s already stretched private medical practices.

As revealed by The Express in November, Mareeba is already facing a doctor shortage due to an archaic rule that prevents overseas-trained doctors from working on the Tablelands.

The map considers coastal towns such as Port Douglas and Innisfail as places that qualify as a DWS and therefore would allow and an overseas trained doctor to practice there, as well as access to the Medicare Benefits Scheme which enables bulk billing.

Under the Federal Health Insurance Act 1973, overseas-trained GPs must practice in a DWS for 10 years before they can go elsewhere for work.

CHHHS CEO Clare Douglas previously told The Express the service was “working closely with the Queensland Department of Health”, who provides the majority of funding, to “ensure there will be no reduction in services after October 2017”.

Mareeba hospital neglected RE: Letter to the editor, Murdoch newspaper on Tuesday 20 December, 2016 ‘Hospital project team in early talks’.

Don’t let facts get in the way of a good story. The article states that the Minister for Health, Cameron Dick said that the “Atherton is the largest referral centre on the Tablelands” but what wasn’t stated is the reasons why Atherton hospital and not Mareeba hospital gets the most referrals.

The monthly figures from the latest reporting period show that Mareeba hospital saw 2800 patients but Atherton hospital only saw 1300 patients in October. This means that for the same period, Mareeba hospital saw more than twice as many patients as the Atherton hospital.

So why are specialists servicing Atherton hospital which is the smallest hospital on the Atherton Tablelands and has less than half the number of patients than Mareeba hospital?

Mareeba hospital, it is suspected, is being ignored due to bureaucratic bias for reasons unknown, as Mareeba hospital is the largest hospital on the Tablelands and is the hospital that should be playing a major part in the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital Health Service.

The question that the Minister for Health, Cameron Dick needs to answer is “Why aren’t the specialists servicing the hospital with the most patients which is the Mareeba hospital?”

photos on social media, would be shocked to see how dramatically the water levels have dropped. If the catchment, which is really quite small, does not receive a significant inflow in the near future, the Tablelands region’s communities could be in for hard times.

This dam was built during the 1950’s to service primarily the tobacco farmers in the Mareeba/Dimbulah Irrigation Area. This was, in reality, quite a small number of farms, and tobacco was not a huge user of water.

Today we have thousands of extra farms, many of which need huge volumes of water, and we have had no addition to the original storage. Today’s farmers must be starting to get nervous about a guaranteed water allocation for 2017.

Might I suggest that while the dam is very low that some steps are taken to pump out the silt that has collected on the bottom of the lake. This could be sold as top dressing or used for fill, and then when the rains do come the water can reach the “real” bottom, and the dam’s capacity could be increased.

In the meantime, just a few kilometres out of Mareeba is what the locals call “Quaid’s Lake”, which was built years ago, and stores a huge quantity of water which has never been used. Ever.

Why can’t this water be fed into the Barron River? It may even be able to be gravity fed and not need pumping.

Finally, we are also urging people to reach out. We know that at least 100,000 Australians with severe mental illness are currently missing out on services.

Lockouts point to bigger issue SO now confusion reigns over Annastacia Palaszczuk’s signature 1am lockout policy set to begin in Queensland’s pubs and clubs

in less than a month.

The 1am lockout was not only an election commitment, but was the centrepiece of Labor’s supposed ‘tough’ laws to tackle alcohol-related violence that Premier Palaszczuk constantly committed to throughout 2016.

In fact, Labor even voted against an LNP Parliamentary motion back in November to scrap the lockout – making a mockery of their total policy backflip.

It now seems a secret report will be delivered to Cabinet to recommend the changes so that Annastacia Palaszczuk can back down on her so-called tough stance.

She is also keen to get Jackie Trad to do her dirty work, which begs the question – who is really running this government?

How can you trust anything Annastacia Palaszczuk says when she continues to break election commitments and goes back on her word, without warning or consultation?

That’s not how you implement policy changes or tackle alcohol-related violence.

That’s not what Annastacia Palaszczuk promised at the last election.

The LNP had a comprehensive plan called the Safe Night Out strategy that included education and awareness, ID scanning to ban repeat troublemakers and strong penalties.

Labor’s plan is to punish the majority because of a few thugs who do the wrong thing.

One thing for certain though - Labor will say one thing before an election and do exactly the opposite after.

Queenslanders won’t be fooled by tough talk that only ends in broken promises and policy backflips.

A MAREEBA lychee farmer has gone all shades of red, white and blue after exporting 242 boxes of the fruit to the United States last month.

Marcello Avolio received glowing feedback from his American counterparts after they tasted his Tai So lychees, comparing it to the best of their own locally grown produce.

“It was received very well…They went to Los Angeles. Some of the trays stayed on the west coast and some went to New York,” he said.

“They even said the lychees’ tasted the same, if not better than their Florida-grown produce.”

Mr Avolio was part of a pilot program run by the Australian Lychee Growers Association that gave farmers the chance to export their produce to the United States.

However, the process was not easy for the veteran farmer, having to meet strict biosecurity requirements that prohibited the use of certain pesticides and fungicides which were banned in the US. “For that reason, I only sacrificed one block of lychees on my farm for export,” Mr Avolio said.

The lychees themselves needed to be in near-perfect condition and packed in special “pest-proof” polypropylene bags sealed with cable ties.

The export crop itself was also audited to ensure it met all requirements.

Mr Avolio said the hardest part of the process was making sure the lychees would not go off on their journey to the US. “I gave it 110 per cent. We gave it everything to make sure those trays were almost perfect,” he said.

“They had to go to Brisbane, get irradiated, then on to a plane and go through customs in America – it was such a long delay.

“It had to survive the trip.”

While he was reluctant to go through the process again, Mr Avolio said he had no doubt there was a viable export market for Mareeba fruit to the US. “There’s a big market there, there’s 300 million people,” he said.

“It was good publicity for us.”

Growers welcome water increase TABLELANDS cane growers have welcomed an increase in water allocation as they prepare to deal with lower than expected yields in the coming harvest season.

Effective since January 1, Tinaroo dam operator SunWater announced a water allocation of 85 per cent for Mareeba-Dimbulah irrigators, up from 75 per cent which was set in November.

Tablelands Canegrowers manager Bronwyn Dwyer was supportive of the increase after a difficult dry period for farmers.

“It was all about when was the best time to apply the water they had under the restrictions,” she said.

“Every time they increase the allocation,

it gives them that little bit extra to get them through.”

Sunwater resets the base level of water allocation given to irrigators in the Mareeba-Dimbulah scheme at the start of every water year (July 1).

The allocation is then reviewed on a monthly basis and, if feasible, can be increased on top of the base level of allocation set.

But Ms Dwyer feared the latest allocation may be not be enough for cane farmers to increase their yield.

“We do expect there will be a reduction in the sugar cane yield this year because of the original reduced allocation announced at

the beginning of the water year,” she said.

“Growers who don’t have a lot of water would have then had to make a decision whether to use it up early and hope that it rained, or hold some back.”

Ms Dwyer said those farmers who harvested multiple crops were forced to divert their limited water allocation elsewhere, choosing not to irrigate their cane at all to save water for their high-value crops.

The sugar cane harvest season will start at the end of May and run through to November.

At the time of going to print, the water level at Tinaroo Dam was 34.1 per cent.

Ingredients

1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee 1/4 cup hot water 1 cup heavy whipping cream 1 1/2 cups icing sugar 225g marscarpone cheese or cream cheese 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder 30g semi-sweet baking chocolate

1. Place the instant coffee in the hot water and stir. Let cool for 5 minutes.

2. Beat heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Chill.

3. Mix icing sugar and marscarpone/cream cheese with a hand mixer until smooth. Mix in vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of the coffee. Add up to the entire amount of coffee, depending on how strong you want your tiramisu.

Mix in vanilla.

4. Fold whipped cream into coffee mixture gently. Place the tiramisu in a ziploc bag that is fitted with a large round or 1M tip.

5. Pipe a small amount the bottom of each of 4 serving glasses op the layer with a dusting of cocoa powder. Continue layering the tiramisu and cocoa powder.

6. Once you get to the top layer, grate the semi-sweet baking chocolate over the tops of the serving dishes (instead of the dusting of cocoa powder). This gives a sweet first taste instead of being bitter from the unsweetened cocoa.

Chill, covered, in the fridge until ready to serve.

Exciting finish to summer sixes The Mareeba United Football Club’s annual “Summer Sixes” competition came to an exciting close with the grand finals on December 23.

Great matches and crazy finishes across all divisions kept the crowd on their toes.

In the mens A-grade division, “Los Torros” came from finishing fourth in the competition to walk away champions, overcoming the “Meledrino’s” in a pulsating final 6-4. The game featured some outstanding end-to-end football and quality goals across the board.

The three Madrid brothers lead the way for the Los Torros side, with oldest bother Victor and youngest Adrian both scoring two goals, while Julian was outstanding between the sticks. John Ghensi and brothers David and Paul Ruiz toiled hard for the Melendrino’s, but to no avail.

The ladies A-grade final was a cracker between the Golden Bulls and Snatch.

The top two teams in the competition went head to head and did not disappoint, with the match ending 2-2. Despite both sides pushing hard for the win, it ended in a draw and went to penalties.

Sally Bestmann looked to be the hero for the Golden Bulls saving two penalties, but Snatch goalkeeper Jess saved the deciding penalty to win the game for Snatch, in one of the most quality games of the night.

In the mens B grade, defending champs “Laser Electrical” overcame Barras to win 6-4. In the ladies B grade, Red Hot Chilli Peppers enjoyed the win against the Gypsies, while in the mens and ladies C grade, Sore Knees UTD and Amateurs won respectively.

Iconic cup returns to Atherton RIVALRIES will be put to the test this Saturday with the return of local cricket’s Bridgeman-Maher Cup. The annual trophy, which was established in 2015 in honour of Atherton Cricket Club’s Darryl Bridgeman and Norths’ Tom Maher, will be contested at Loder Park.

Both Bridgemen and Maher were two of their respective club’s toughest competitors, facing off against each other in several finals during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Atherton won the Cup’s inaugural trophy in 2015 before North’s got one back the following year.

As a curtain raiser, the Atherton Heat Girls will play a Cairns combined girls team.

Atherton life members and sponsors are welcome to come along come along, with the club serving afternoon tea for the guests upstairs at Loder Park clubhouse.
