That’s Egg-tastic! SUNSHINE, chocolate and loads of fun will be in store for hundreds of Far North children as Kuranda’s annual Easter in the Park event makes its return this Saturday. A whopping 14,000 Easter eggs will rain down on Centenary Park when the Easter Bunny himself makes several “egg drops”, delighting youngsters such as this group pictured last year. Just get rid of them By Michael Serenc KATTER’S Australian Party’s (KAP’s) controversial plan to cull problem saltwater crocodiles has found support from a pair of Biboohra farmers dealing with the animals on their properties. In an area normally free of saltwater crocodiles, Evan McGrath and Andrew Mazgay both told The Express they had no trouble backing the cull proposal as sightings continued to become more frequent. “We’re in a totally different position from all the other areas that have had problem crocodiles given the fact they’ve never been here,” Mr McGrath said.

“We always hear from the do-gooders that we encroach on their territory. These things are encroaching on our territory.” Mr McGrath said he did not care whether the crocodiles were removed or culled, he simply wanted them gone from the area. “They’ve got to go. It’s as simple as that,” he said. Mr Mazgay said something needed to be done about the crocodiles. “There’s one too many now here,” he said. “I saw another croc about three weeks ago near my pump station.” As revealed by The Express on March 22, Mr McGrath and Mr Mazgay were part of a group of local farmers who spoke out about

the growing numbers of crocodiles found on their properties, fearing someone would soon be killed unless action was taken by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection . Mr Mazgay, who runs a sand quarry and farms cane, previously told the paper he had been lunged at by a saltwater crocodile three times in the last three years, including one incident at Two Mile Creek last month. Wildlife officers had set up cameras and croc baits at a waterway on his property on March 2 and have since been back to collect the cameras’ memory cards and review any evidence of sightings.
