HIGHLY-RESPECTED Mareeba local Tom Braes was honoured on Thursday as the Mareeba Men’s Shed officially opened the ‘Tom Braes Shed’.

The Tom Braes Shed is a multi-faceted space that consists of an office, an electronics room, a kitchen and a library fit with computers.

The shed will also be utilised to hold conferences and seminars on men’s health.

Men’s Shed Patron and has played an integral role in securing the building for the site after years of negotiations.

Mr Braes said the building was a temporary office at the back of the old Court House.

“It was in use I think by SunWater or a similar department,” he said.

“The old Court House was demolished in 2008, and the new one opened in February of 2009.”

Mr Braes said the shed sat in the yard at SunWater for quite a while before it was moved to the works depot over in Wallace Drive where it started to deteriorate.

“Other agencies had their eyes on it, but it just sat there – no one seemed to be able to make a decision,” he said.

“I checked my emails, and first enquired about the building in late 2009, and from there then followed a number of enquiries

until it was secured at the end of 2017.”

Mr Braes noted that he would like to thank the Mareeba Shire Council for its involvement in obtaining the building and relocating it.

“I also want to thank the likes of Kent and Cec who has done so much for the Mareeba Men’s Shed; my input has been minor compared to theirs.”

Mr Braes said he is proud to continue his association with the

Mareeba Men’s Shed, and wanted to congratulate all who are involved with it, for the expansion of facilities and services.

“Men’s health continues to be an issue,” he said.

“This facility can go a little way to giving men an outlet, a place to just hang out, have company, maintain a healthy outlook and clear their head.

“It gives me great pleasure to declare the Tom Braes Shed officially open.”

Farmers voice concerns at overtime payments THE Fair Work Commission’s decision requiring growers to pay casual employees overtime under the Horticulture Award came into effect on Monday, and it is one that has been met with plenty of discontent amongst farmers.

The new system will mean a casual employee’s ordinary hours are limited to 12 per day and 304 per eight weeks.

In addition, a casual employee must be paid a night loading of 15 per cent for any ordinary hours which are worked between 8.31 pm and 4.59 am.

While there are concerns surrounding what this will do to farmers’ bottom line, another reason this decision has felt such strong opposition is due to the little time growers were given to implement the new pay system.

The Fair Work Commission only made their ruling a fortnight ago, which is a timeline the National Farmers’ Federation described as “woefully short”.

“This system is impractical as it relates to seasonal workers, as it will mean farmers will have to rotate their staff and in turn may not harvest their crop in time.”

Mr Moro said while this decision is something he is not in favour of, he noted his appreciation of the leeway the Fair Work Commission allowed for compared to that of the National Union of Workers, who have been quite vocal in their push into the horticultural sector.

“We encountered plenty of difficulty with the Unions as

they wanted no exemption on paying overtime,” he said.

“It should apply on all hours after 38 hours worked in one week.”

Mr Moro noted that there will be still a number of farmers who aren’t aware of the change, and he strongly advised them to consult with HR organisations specific to the industry.

“This is a decision that is unlikely to change as it has been handed down by an independent body, so it’s imperative now that farmers put things in place and speak to the right people to help manage the problem,” he said.

Mr Moro said this will be an intensely discussed issue moving forward, particularly over the election period.

Aviation Museum secures $35,000 grant THE FNQ Aviation Museum has received a significant boost with its plans to build a large aviation museum at Mareeba Airport. The tourism attraction and aviation research facility will use this funding to commence concept drawings, building design, costings and other items necessary so its in a position ready to build.

The announcement by the Queensland Government department was weeks earlier than expected and planning has commenced for the pre construction works.

The grant is a sign of confidence in the Museum's leadership team’s vision and that the project is one worthy of supporting.

Giving parents time to say goodbye

The Mareeba and Atherton Hospital will now have a cuddle cot, which allows families to say goodbye to their baby who has passed away.

THE Mareeba and Atherton Hospital will be the beneficiaries of a new cuddle cot due to the fundraising efforts of a number of community organisations and a determined Mossman woman.

A cuddle cot is a cooling system that is designed to fit in a small cot and allows babies who have passed away to remain with their families as opposed to needing to be cooled in a mortuary environment.

One such mother who understands the importance of cuddle cots and what they can provide is Mossman woman Danielle Bower, whose personal experience

motivated her to initiate a fundraising drive that has resulted in a cuddle cot being made available on the Tablelands.

“My husband and I suffered a loss in October of 2016,” she said.

“Unfortunately the cuddle cot that was provided to us at the Cairns Hospital was not working, which limited the time we were able to spend saying our goodbyes.

“I knew straight away that I didn’t want this happen to other parents in the future, so I spoke to my husband about ways we could raise money towards providing a new one.

“It is also a way to honour our baby’s memory.”

Mrs Bower said fortunately Cairns now have access to at least one cuddle cot, so the decision was made to share this one between Atherton and Mareeba, neither of which had one.

“Cuddle cots allow both parents and even extended family, to spend more time with their baby,” she said.

“This time is when precious memories are made.”

Mrs Bowers said her fundraising efforts began in January of 2017 when she was put in touch with The FNQ Hospital Founda-

tion who set up a link on their webpage to allow people to donate.

“My Grandparents had a big crop of rambutans so they offered to let me sell them, and 100% of the proceeds went towards the cuddle cot,” she said.

“I also approached the Mossman Rotary Club, and all up we raised $1692.40.

“Friends of Mareeba Hospital Foundation kindly offered to make up the rest of the money needed to secure a cuddle cot.”

Mrs Bowers took time to thank those who contributed in helping secure a cuddle cot for the Table-

lands.

“I would like to thank everyone involved including Glenys Duncombe, from The FNQ Hospital Foundation - she kick started the fundraising through their website and couldn’t have been more helpful,” she said.

“I would also like to thank Evelyn Mathews, from Mossman Rotary, for their kind donation.

“As well as Ida Portella from the Friends of Mareeba Hospital Foundation, who was integral in organising the remaining funds needed - she also took the ropes for me as it was easier for her to liaise with everyone (hospitals and

foundations) from that point on.

“And I want to thank my Grandparents who generously donated their time and produce to the fundraiser. I’m happy to have been given the opportunity to help the Tablelands community as my Grandma grew up in Mareeba, and we have a lot of family there.”

Mrs Bowers said in closing, the staff who helped us during our time at the Cairns Hospital were incredible.

“I hope in the future that cuddle cots may be considered a necessity in every hospital,” she said.

The Ootann Road Upgrade Project is progressing well. The project includes the widening and sealing of 2.0km of road, installation of new culverts and minor road realignment. This project is the second section of Ootann Road to be upgraded under the Northern Australia Beef Roads Program. This $1.32 million project is 80% funded by the Australian Government with the remainder funded by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme and Mareeba Shire Council.

Greater Police presence this Easter A state-wide road safety campaign has been launched by the Queensland Police Service to curb road incidents over the school holiday and Easter period.

THE Queensland Police Service’s Easter Road Safety Campaign, also known as Operation Romeo Solace, commenced on April 5 and will be in effect until April 26.

The traffic policing operation is designed to reduce the number of injuries, fatal traffic crashes and road related crime over a period in which there is an increase in motorists using Queensland roads.

Strategies used in the opera-

tion will include a highly visible police presence on highways and roads, targeted operations at locations where an increase in road users is likely, and roadside drink and drug-driving tests among others.

Tableland Patrol Group Inspector Russell Rhodes said a strong emphasis will be placed on the Fatal Five.

“The Fatal Five strategies include speeding, distraction, drink and/or drug-driving, fatigue and

seatbelt use,” he said.

“Added to that, we want to see safe road traffic in general at this time of the year when there are a lot of cars on the road.

“So we’d like to have our community really complying with the traffic laws and driving very safely under the road and weather conditions, whatever they may be at the time.”

QPS Commissioner Ian Stewart said research had shown that a high police presence on major

road networks during peak holiday periods provided community reassurance and also served as a deterrent to those engaging in high-risk behaviour.

“Officers will be out in force conducting roadside testing for drugs and alcohol, as well as covert and overt speed enforcement in high-risk zones,” he said.

“Until April 26, anyone travelling on the state’s highways can expect to encounter police.”

Federal election called AUSTRALIANS will be heading to the ballot box on May 18 after Prime Minister Scott Morrison officially called the federal election last week.

The coalition appear to be fighting an uphill battle as they are trailing in the majority of opinion polls, however there could be a quiet confidence building amongst the party

as Morrison leads Opposition Leader Bill Shorten as the preferred Prime Minister 44 to 35 per cent.

It was clear in Morrison’s announcement of the federal election that the economy is at the heart of the Liberal National Party’s pitch to voters, as he stated that “despite economic headwinds, Australia’s economy

is strong”.

“We are delivering the first budget surplus in more than a decade,” Morrison said.

“Unemployment is at decade lows, and last year for the first time in our history, more than 100,000 young Australians got a job.”

Lakeland Irrigation Area Report made available AROUND 50 people from Cook Shire and beyond attended RDA FNQ&TS’ public release of the Lakeland Irrigation Area Strategic Business Report held at the Lakeland Community Hall on Wednesday 10 April.

Funding was provided by the Australian Government under the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund (NWIDF) to undertake a feasibility study to investigate new water storage to expanded irrigated agriculture.

Four options were considered to improve the water volume and reliability for an expanded irrigable area. The Palmer River was identified as the most favourable site.

The Palmer River, home of the 1860’s gold rush, flows to the west into the Mitchell River catchment.

Water will be pumped over the Byerstown Range, through a hydro generator and gravity fed to the irrigation area.

The Lakeland Irrigation area was established over 70 years

ago. It boasts deep basalt soils growing a variety of crops. Water availability and security is the major inhibitor to the success and expansion of agriculture in the region.

The Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy has undertaken a comprehensive assessment and identified soil and crop suitability. “The findings are favourable and contained in the report,” said RDA FNQ&TS Chair, David Kempton.

Hopping into Easter THE Easter Bunny has been busy hiding chocolate in Kuranda in preparation for a giant Easter egg hunt on this Saturday, April 20.

Tourism Kuranda Executive Officer Kahlia Pepper said Kuranda would be open all Easter weekend including Good Friday with plenty of activities, shopping and dining options for the whole family.

“The village’s annual Easter in the Park celebration on Easter Saturday is a day of free family activities in Kuranda’s Centenary Park,” she said.

“There will be five face painters, three jumping castles, horse and carriage rides, street performers, games and fun arts and crafts activities to keep the kids entertained all day.

“It is the tenth anniversary of Easter in the Park so we are bringing back the traditional

Providing pathways for East Timorese professionals THE Mareeba Hospital has welcomed East Timor doctor Tince Frederica Jempaut as part of Rotary International’s New Generations Service Exchange.

The exchange program was established to provide university students and professionals up to 30 years of age a customisable, short-term program where they can build their professional skills and gain international experience, explore a new culture, learn a new language and meet people with common interests.

Ms Jempaut, 26, has only been in Mareeba for just over a week of her scheduled two month stay, and noted how excited she is about the opportunity.

“This is a great chance for me to learn about how the medical system works over here as well as improve on my English,” she said.

“I have already noticed that there are a lot more patients with different medical problems compared to back home.

“So that means I can watch what the doctors do here, ask a

lot of questions and that will help me better my skills.”

That greater diversity of medical knowledge is something Ms Jempaut looks forward to bringing back to her home country of East Timor, where she became a qualified general practitioner in 2015.

“I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was a child so that I could help people and make a difference in my community and country,” she said.

Ms Jempaut said she would like to thank Rotary and the East Timor Ministry of Health for working together and giving her this opportunity.

Mareeba Hospital doctor and Mareeba Rotary Club member Dr Margaret Purcell said this is the second year that this district has had people from East Timor come over as part of the New Generations Service Exchange program.

“Last year we had people who were mechanics and in hospitality, which we have again this year along with those in the

field of medicine,” she said.

“As it relates to Rika (Ms Jempaut), the Mareeba Rotary Club accepted to take her on here at the Mareeba Hospital for an observational period as she’s obviously not registered to practice in Australia.

“The way we practice medicine is a lot different here, we work with a completely different demographic; however this will still allow her to learn a lot and update her own skills.

“Rika will also be participating in the teaching and training programs on offer here at the Mareeba Hospital which will be great.”

Dr Purcell said she would like to thank the staff at the Mareeba Hospital for including Ms Jempaut in activities and making her feel welcome.

“The bonus of this program is that it is also a cultural exchange, so the doctors and nurses here at the hospital are getting to know more about Rika and where she’s from,” she said.

Region’s big issues discussed LNP’s Shadow Minister for Natural Resources and Mines and Shadow Minister for North Queensland Dale Last was in Mareeba last week where the region’s “big ticket” items were discussed.

LIBERAL National Party’s Shadow Minister for Natural Resources and Mines and Shadow Minister for North Queensland Dale Last was on the Tablelands last week to meet with key businesspeople, community organisations and prominent political figures in the region.

Mr Last said the purpose of his visit was to get a better handle on the community issues being felt in northern Australia and on the Tablelands specifically.

“I had the opportunity to speak with the Mareeba Chamber of Commerce, Mayors Tom Gilmore and Joe Paronella, local business owners as well as operators in the resource sector,” he said.

“Those meetings help inform our policy going forward as we get closer to our election next year.”

Mr Last said the two most pertinent issues that were raised in his meetings were the Nullinga Dam and the Kuranda Range Road.

“They were the big ticket items that came out of our meeting, and I understand they’ve been at the forefront of discussion in this region for quite some time,” he said.

“As it relates to Nullinga

Dam, the LNP has committed to delivering that project.

“When you have water you have opportunities, so we see that as a crucial project not only for long-term water security, but also in terms of further agricultural development as this area is really developing into a food bowl.”

Mr Last said if you construct a dam on the basis that it has to be cost reflective in terms of recouping the costs through water charges, then there’d never be another dam built in Queensland.

“Government has a role to play here in delivering infrastructure which is going to lead to economic development,” he said.

“So I understand that if we build the Nullinga Dam and make the water affordable, then we’ll encourage investment in this area.”

As part of the Liberal National Party’s commitment to delivering the Nullinga Dam project, Mr Last said the party will be setting up the Queensland Dam Company if elected.

“The Queensland Dam Company will be set up in North Queensland in either Cairns or Townsville,” he said.

in Queensland for 15 years, so we’re saying that we’re going to establish the Queensland Dam Company with the sole purpose of building a number dams across the state.”

As it relates to the Kuranda Range Road Upgrade, Mr Last said there needs to be major expenditure spent on that range to enable heavy vehicles to traverse it along with improving its overall safety.

“From an economic standpoint, Cairns has the potential to be an export hub,” he said.

“As it’s currently constructed, the Kuranda Range Road doesn’t have the capacity to take B-doubles up and down, so the upgrade is imperative to ensure the successful transportation of produce.

“And from a safety perspective, it continues to be the scene of numerous traffic accidents, particularly in the wet weather, so there’s plenty there for us to look at.”

Mr Last said while there’s so much potential in North Queensland that only goes so far, and he noted that he is committed to unleashing and developing that potential moving forward.

Electrical safety a priority on farms Fatal plane crash south of Atherton

THE body of 71-YEAROLD Townsville man Richard O’Sullivan who died on Monday when the plane he was piloting crashed on the Herberton Range south of Atherton was retrieved by crews at approximately 10am last Wednesday.

The retrieval of the deceased pilot was scheduled a day after the crash, however poor weather hindered their recovery efforts.

The crash occurred at approximately 4pm on Monday, April 8, after a search for the aircraft was activated when the plane failed to reach Atherton.

The remote location of the crash meant it was only accessible for emergency response teams by air.

Once the helicopter search crew located the aircraft, a crew-

man was winched down to the scene where he located the pilot contained within the wreckage and confirmed the man was deceased.

“At around 4pm Monday, April 8, we had received information that an aircraft was missing on a flight from Mount Garnet through to Atherton which had a single pilot on-board,” Tablelands Patrol Group Inspector Russell Rhodes said.

“At this stage it’s unable to be certified exactly what was the cause of the fatal crash.”

Inspector Rhodes said it is a deeply sad incident and whatever assistance is needed for the man’s family at this time will be provided.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

SENIOR executives from the state’s peak agricultural industry associations met with government safety regulators and influential stakeholder groups at an agriculture electrical risk forum in Brisbane recently.

The group was brought together to understand the complexities of working safely around electrical infrastructure in the agriculture industry, and were tasked with finding solutions to tackle this issue in the agriculture industry and rural communities.

There have been five Queenslanders who have died from electrical incidents on farms in the last three years, four of which transpired on the Atherton Tablelands.

The most recent incident on the Tablelands occurred at a farm in Tumoulin, where a mother and daughter tragically lost their lives on New Year’s Eve after coming in contact with a live wire.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Manager, Agriculture Unit Fiona O’Sullivan said the three main causes of electrical incidents on farms are machinery and equipment contacting overhead powerlines, electrical equipment that’s not in good condition and the absence of safety switches on circuits.

“Unfortunately, each of these factors was an issue in the recent Tablelands incidents,” she said.

Ms O’Sullivan noted that to raise the awareness of working safely around powerlines, the Electrical Safety Office (ESO) and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) have taken several approaches.

“One of the outcomes of the forum is that the ESO and WHSQ will work with the agricultural industry to increase knowledge and awareness of electrical safety issues,” she said.

“In addition, the ESO and WHSQ will continue to work closely with Energy Queensland at field days and agricultural events to promote working safe-

ty around powerlines.

“Also, as the safety regulator, our inspectors also assess how safety is being managed around powerlines during audits on farms, and there are now mandatory infringement notices if contact is made with a powerline.”

Ms O’Sullivan said simple actions can be taken by farmers to improve the safety of themselves, their families and their workers.

“Those include moving irrigation pipes, machinery and other large items away from under overhead electricity lines, along with checking electrical equipment before use and disposing of defective items,” she said.

An initiative by Energy

Queensland in the form of a new app will too play an integral role in helping raise awareness amongst the state’s farming community about potential electrical dangers on their property.

“Energy Queensland has released an app to help farmers and property owners identify the overhead network on their land,” Ms O’Sullivan said.

“Ergon Energy can provide maps of all electrical infrastructures and provide advice on line-marking and painting power poles to make them more visible.”

Planning underway for Rail Trail MAREEBA Shire Council recently entered into a funding arrangement with the Queensland Government to develop a feasibility study which will assess potential costs, configurations and governance models for a potential rail trail.

The study aligns with a petition received by Council from 356 residents and visitors calling on Council to upgrade Mareeba’s 14km section of the corridor.

Mayor Tom Gilmore said Council was aware of the public’s interest and demand to up-

grade the trail was appreciative to the Queensland Government for assisting with the first part of the process. “Thank you to the Queensland Government for giving us the opportunity to carry out this feasibility study of the rail trail,” Cr Gilmore said.

“We look forward to receiving the report to see if the community can afford the upgrade of the trail and ongoing maintenance of the track.”

Council expects the report will be prepared and presented by the end of June this year.

SPEEDWAY action returned to Herberton’s Tepon Motor Racing Circuit on Sunday for driver’s from the Tableland Competition Car Club.

Kirk Poole took top points in the A grade followed by Terry McFarlane in second place and Owen Jonsson third.

Andrew McCreath won B grade with Mitchell White second and Chris Hartge third. Top points in C grade went to Shae Jonsson with Sam Jennings second and Ian Meyer third.

The next round of motor racing at Tepon will be held on Sunday May 19.

Parnell steals the show at CFN presentation ATHERTON Cricket 1st Grade captain Dan Parnell celebrated an outstanding season at the Cricket Far North presentation dinner recently.

Dan's efforts with both bat and ball were recognised as he picked up 4 of the major awards on the night, which include Cricket Far North’s ‘Best and Fairest’, Cricket Far North’s ‘Player's Player’ along with finishing with the best First Grade Batting Aggregate and First Grade Bowling Aggregate.

A stand-out performer for Atherton, Dan scored 700 runs and took 36 wickets, finishing a

clear leader in both areas. Highlights of Dan's season included him scoring 115 runs off 65 balls in a T20 match and a bowling hat-trick as he took 5 for 9 in a T20 match. A powerful hitter of the ball, Dan found the boundary on 91 occasions with 36 sixes and 55 fours. His wickets came from 105 overs at an economy rate of 4.05 and an average of 11.81. Dan also represented Far North Fusion at the Bulls Masters T20 Country Challenge.

Atherton will celebrate the season with a presentation dinner on April 26, 2019.

Gladiators win thriller at home THE Mareeba Gladiators AGrade side secured their first win of the season after they won a two point thriller at home on Saturday night against Southern Suburbs.

The home side’s night started poorly after the Cockatoos scored inside the first five minutes of the match; however a barnstorming run less than ten minutes later

by Gladiators front-rower Kurt Jackson tied things up at 6-6.

While Southern Suburbs were next to score, the Gladiators were leading at the halftime break after their five-eighth Jayden Edwards shrugged off four defenders and muscled his way to the line to set up a 12-10 scoreline.

Not long thereafter, a penalty goal by Edwards ensured the men in green and yellow took a 14-10 lead into the main break.

The Gladiators started the second half strong, scoring two quick tries through Edwards once again as well as their captain Trent Barnard.

Suburbs refused to go away however, scoring twice to set up a nail-biting finish that saw the Gordonvale outfit being awarded a penalty goal opportunity with less than 30 seconds to go in the game.

It appeared Suburbs were going to steal a draw away from home, however surprisingly, they hit the post on their penalty

goal attempt and the Gladiators were able to hold on for a 22-20 victory.

Gladiators five-eighth Jayden Edwards was one of the home side’s stand-outs, with his performance consisting of two tries and a stellar kicking game that haunted the opposition’s fullback all night.

Edwards credited his success to a strong go-forward from the front row partnership of Kurt Jackson and Ian King along with a strong training session during the week.

“It was really good to work off the back of our forwards tonight, they gave us backs plenty of time and space,” Edwards said.

“And it was good to improve on my partnership with Josh in the halves, we gelled a lot at training during the week and I think that was a big reason we played well.”

Edwards said while it was great to secure the Gladiators first win of the season, there are still errors that needed to be taken out of their side’s game to ensure they can continue their winning ways moving forward.

Gladiators A-Grade captain Trent Barnard said it was a great feeling to finally get two points after what was a hard pre-season.

“In the first couple of rounds we weren’t really playing to our

potential,” he said.

“But I thought tonight we played well, it was good to get Kurt Jackson back which gave us some more size and go-forward in the middle.

“When you’re going forward as a team it makes such a difference, as it lays a platform for us backs to take advantage of and

that was something we were able to do tonight more so than in our previous games.”

A big talking point over the offseason was the much-needed change in culture at the club, and that shift to a more positive culture is something Barnard noted the club now has in spades.

“A bit of a change in the cul-

ture was something this club needed, and we are lucky to have such a good mix of blokes here at the moment,” he said.

“We have some players who have been here for a number of years, some who are just playing their first season with the Gladiators and a few from overseas, and everyone is just getting along

and having a good time which is awesome to see.”

In the other fixtures on Saturday night, U18s and Reserve Grade both recorded wins while the Ladies team went down.

The Gladiators will have a break this weekend for Easter, with their next fixture against the Mossman Sharks.

Bulls lose to arch rivals at home THE Bulls continued their woeful start to the season on Sunday afternoon at home against the Stratford Dolphins, a match many spectators expected to get a positive result from.

They now go into a two week break with three losses and a win under their belts, with a game in hand due to a washout earlier in the year.

A string of events led the Bulls to drop their bundle to arch rivals, Stratford United, but not before some controversial decisions made on the side line by Coach Perry Krakowcysk.

A dominant first half saw the Bulls go 1-up and completely dominate their opponents for long periods of time. They were unlucky to go into the break 1-1 when they should have put the game beyond doubt and led by

The lack of composure in front of goal is a problem Coach Krakowcysk has had all season – players switching off at critical moments in the game.

The mayhem began with the critical decision by the coach to replace Justin Sabbidin, who was having a blinder of a game, with injured Captain Jamie Carroll.

Carroll came off in last week’s match against Innisfail with a groin injury and within five minutes of his introduction aggravated the injury again rendering him virtually useless.

By this time the Dolphins had gone one up and the Bulls found themselves chasing the game.

On Friday night at the Atherton International Club the Atherton Eagles totally outclassed the Mareeba Bulls second division side who had no answer to the dominant 4-0 win. The Bulls fillies however had a 2-1 win over the Eagles in a historical match which saw the two towns play a ladies match for the first time, a sign of things to come perhaps.

THE Atherton Roosters first grade side are now three from three in this year’s Cairns District Rugby League premiership race following Saturday nights 26-12 win over the Innisfail Leprechauns in very heavy rain at Innisfail.

Atherton also now head the points table on 6 followed by Brothers 4, Kangaroos 4, Ivanhoes 4, Innisfail 4, suburbs 2, Edmonton 2, Mareeba 2, Yarrabah 2, Mossman 0, Tully 0.

After trailing 6-0 early, the Roosters powered back to lead 10-6 at the break before a strong second stanza defensive effort closed down their opposition.

Innisfail pressured the Roosters line several times but were denied by the visitors keen effort
