Hospital accomodation officially open for use Three new staff accommodation houses, costing $1.5M, have been opened at the Mareeba Hospital.

Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui, said the project was part of the government’s commitment to the improving health services in regional Queensland.

PCYC Queensland received a brand-new Mazda2 from Mareeba Rotary, in conjunction with the Rotary E-Club of Outback Australia to support the PCYC Braking the Cycle program that commenced at PCYC Mareeba in June 2018.

The PCYC Braking the Cycle program is a learner driver mentoring program that empowers young people aged 16 to 25, who due to financial hardship or social barriers, would otherwise be unable to achieve the mandatory 100 hours of supervised driving.

Mareeba Rotary Immediate Past President, Matt Jacob, said they are proud to support the program by helping young people accomplish their hours of supervised driving in a safe vehicle.

“PCYC Braking the Cycle is a great program that can provide young people with increased

employment chances, community connection and driver education,” said Mr Jacob.

PCYC Braking the Cycle is currently run at 24 PCYC clubs across Queensland. Since the program commenced in 2011 over 620 participants have obtained their drivers’ licences, which is made possible by the volunteer network of more than 500 driver mentors.

PCYC Mareeba branch manager, Sergeant Mary-Anne West, said the program could not run without the support of volunteer drivers.

“Our volunteer mentors act as supervisors, assisting the learners to develop positive road safety attitudes and practice their driving skills in a safe way, and also provide encouragement and help young people improve their self-esteem.” Sergeant West said.

Men’s Shed donation The Atherton Men’s Shed support group has welcomed a $500 donation from the Crop Science division of Bayer and Tableland Fertilizers through the iGiveLocal Community Support Program. Now in its third year, the iGiveLocal Program has to date donated over $100,000 to 190 local causes around the country.

The cheque was proudly presented to Men’s Shed representative Brian Brown by

Tony Fitzgerald from Bayer and Stewart Low from Tableland Fertilizers.

Stewart said: “The Atherton Men’s Shed provides invaluable support to men in this community by facilitating their work on community-based projects.

This donation will go towards a dust extraction unit to allow for the expansion of the woodworking workshop and improve user safety.”

A $500 cheque is presented to the Atherton Men’s Shed from Bayer and Tableland Fertilisers.

Farmers left in the lurch after agent goes broke

A group of farmers on the Tablelands is owed in excess of $400,000 collectively after an agent operating out of Brisbane went into liquidation.

Eureka Fresh Produce had been buying fruit from local farmers for the last two years but on August 3 the company went bust leaving clients stranded without being paid.

Mango and Lychee farmer Luigi Serafini is devastated.

“They let us down,” he said.

“We paid all our bills and we expect the money to come back and for us to go forward, but now we’re stuck in the middle and we can’t go forward and we can’t go back.

“We have to borrow money now to make ends meet.”

Mr Serafini is owed over $50,000 from the company. John Gauci is owed $140,000 and considered one of the owners of Eureka Fresh, Ethan Kelly, a friend. Mr Kelly was invited to his daughter Tara’s wedding two months ago.

“He’s had dinners here, we let him stay, he was a mate,” said Mr Gauci.

“Most of his clients I got for him and it makes me look like a bit of a fool.”

Mr Kelly was a partner in the business with Phuc Thien Ngyuen Trinh until Mr Trinh resigned on June 11. It is alleged Mr Trinh is now operating a similar business called Tropicalk-

ingg or Fruit Obsession with Mr Kelly appearing in photographs advertising the enterprise.

“What hurts more is that we saw he had started this new company up,” said Mr Gauci of Mr Trinh.

“How can he resign from one company and start another company when he still owes a lot of money?”

Mr Kelly was reluctant to comment but denied he was involved in a new business. He said the business had folded “due to uncontrollable circumstances” and that the situation was now in the hands of the liquidators.

There are around nine farmers affected locally with more at Cape Tribulation, Tully and Innisfail.

Liyan Tay and Nick Combis from Vincents Chartered Accountants are overseeing the liquidation. A report will be made available in October but none of the farmers expect to see any of the money owed to them.

“If we’re not happy with the liquidator we’re going to take it to the fraud squad,” said Mr Gauci.

“It might take a year or two years but something’s got to happen.

“We’re not going to give up, there’s too much money involved.”

Chair of the FNQ Growers Joe Moro said the process of agency transactions needs to change to stop situations like these occurring again.

lieve that this money should be held in trust and then whoever is owed money, the grower, the transporter or whoever is paid out of the trust account,” he said.

“That would solve all of these problems but unfortunately we haven’t been able to convince the industry across Australia to take this on board but this is something that we advocate very strongly for in Far North Queensland because this has happened before and unfortunately will

happen again.”

Mr Moro said situations like this could put a massive strain on individuals and that he was concerned with the effect on farmers’ mental health.

“There are some very good operators in the market and there’s also some shonky ones,” he said. “Unfortunately when you get caught up in it there aren’t many avenues available.”

Now the farmers want to warn others to stop them from

ending up in a similar situation.

“What can you do? just help the fellow grower,” said Jozo Hrkac.

“It’s not a good feeling.”

Tara Gauci-Quintieri feels betrayed by Mr Kelly whom she considered a friend. She says there was little communication in the lead up to the business collapsing.

“It’s hard to go forward if you have no money in the bank,” she said.

“You can’t pay the wages and you can’t pay all the bills that are outstanding. You can try with the bank but it’s not a guarantee.”

For Mr Serafini, the financial strain is unbearable.

“When I spoke to him last he called me mate,” he said of Mr Kelly.

“I don’t know if he meant it or not but he’s not our mate now. We’re really disappointed in him.”

Soil health the focus of workshop A biodynamic garlic farm helped to set the scene for a soil health tour on the Tablelands recently.

Fruit and vegetable growers learned how Adam Collins grows diverse winter and summer cover crops to improve soil health when they visited the Collins’s property during the workshop led by ecologist and farmer Dr Wendy Seabrook.

Natural resource management organisation Terrain NRM brought Learning for Nature’s

Dr Seabrook to the Wet Tropics for the event, which was held in Ravenshoe and funded through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

Terrain NRM’s Regional Landcare Facilitator Jenny Redway said participants from the Tablelands and Gordonvale learned methods to fortify soil health and increase their soil’s microbiology, including techniques using plants to increase the biomass and diversity of soil organisms.

New technology will benefit farmers Far North Queensland beef and sugarcane producers will use new technologies to learn about better grazing, land management and sustainability to improve profitability for their industries.

The $4 million E-beef Smart Farm project will include three properties across North Queensland to showcase the latest land management technologies so farmers can see the benefits for themselves.

Federal Agriculture Minister David Littleproud and Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch said the project would benefit

An American pilot that was killed near Biboohra on August 9, 1943 was remembered on the weekend.

Second Lieutenant Andrew Kendel Duke was piloting P-38 Lightning Serial No 43-2200, that was attached to the 5th Air Force, 475 Fighter Group, 431st Fighter Squadron.

At 16.05hrs on the above date 2nd Lt Duke experienced engine trouble during flight over Mareeba during his flight from Amberley to New Guinea.

As Lt Duke circled, the aircraft experienced further serious engine difficulties and it quickly came apparent Duke was unable to land at the airfield. Duke decided to attempt a single engine landing north from Mareeba to Biboohra.

The aircraft began to lose altitude, and tragically crashed near the small township of Biboohra.

Duke was killed instantly suffering horrific internal injuries and burns from the aircraft crash, and post explosion.

Proceeds of the 2017 Maree-

ba Military Muster and donations from a number of organisations including relatives in the USA have gone towards a memorial to honour the tragic loss of Lt Duke which was officially unveiled on Saturday.

The Memorial sits within the garden area of the Biboohra Cash Store and Service Station along the Mulligan Highway.

Memorial Co-ordinator Michael Musumeci said; “We are very grateful for all of these donations as well as added contributions from Lt Duke’s family, the Mareeba RSL Sub branch and the Vietnam and Veterans

Motorcycle Club who have all assisted in making this a reality,� he said. “Mareeba’s military history is something that should never be forgotten, and Mareeba played a vital and essential part during World War II. This memorial is a fitting tribute to honour Lt Andrew Kendel Duke, and needs to be not only highlighted to our visitors, but also to the younger generations, as he paid the ultimate sacrifice in such turbulent times.�

Local groups benefit from fund Fifteen sporting and community groups in the Cook electorate will benefit from the $13.7 million distributed as part of Round 96 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Putting the spotlight on animals in need

For 24-year-old Chantelle Pedersen, being a Maize Festival Ambassador is a great way to promote the volunteer work that she does – helping out at an animal rescue and rehabilitation centre at Lake Eacham.

FNQ Foster Farm has been running for three years, saving the lives of animals that have been abused and neglected across the Tablelands.

For Chantelle, pitching in at the farm as a volunteer is where her heart is.

“I’ve been riding since I came out of the womb, practically,” she laughed.

“I’m a huge animal lover and I love being with the animals at the farm. It’s so important what they do. The animals can’t help themselves, they need someone to help them.”

Chantelle was born and bred in Mareeba and now lives in Biboohra. She is eligible for the Maize Festival’s re-vamped Ambassador Program because she works in Atherton as a trainee at Tablelands Regional Council, which is also her sponsor.

The Astute Maize Festival Emerging Ambassador program is now in its second year and invites both young men and women to take part as an opportunity to ‘grow confidence and leadership potential’.

The Maize Festival will this year take place on September 1 but Chantelle and the five other 2018 Ambassadors have already been part of some exciting events including learning more about public speaking and social media. A former Mareeba Rodeo Queen Quest competitor, Chantelle jumped at the opportunity to be an Ambassador.

“I wanted primarily to get exposure for FNQ Foster Farm,” she said. “But it’s also already been really helpful to me.

There’s a lot of focus on selfimprovement. It’s definitely not your typical beauty pageant.”

Chantelle is hosting some fundraising events in the lead up to the festival, including a pie drive, a raffle and market stalls in Atherton, Wondecla, Yungaburra and Tolga. On August 19 she is holding a sausage sizzle outside of Bunnings and on August 18

she is holding a Cowboys and Indians Trivia Night at the CWA Hall in Yungaburra with some awesome prizes up for grabs.

All of the money raised will go towards the animals rescued by the FNQ Foster Farm.

“They offer a safe haven for all horses and livestock when their families can’t and specialise in rehabilitation, retraining and re-homing,” said Chantelle.

“They also provide a community service offering temporary support to livestock and horse owners enabling them to maintain the needs of their stock through financial setbacks.”

Sue Ehrmann from the organisation said she was thrilled with Chantelle’s efforts to support the cause and said that the money was much needed.

“This fundraising will go towards an arena here so we can work the horses ready for rehoming,” she said.

“We really pride ourselves on matching horses with owners so there are less complications and better outcomes on a long term placement.”

Part of Sue’s work involves helping to educate the new owners of the animals she rehomes.

“We also focus on curbing abuse and neglect through education,” she said.

“Horses think a lot like primitive humans and this is why they can read our body language so well. So for example someone timid or shy while have a downward submissive approach and the horses will walk all over that, so we show people how to stand

tall and confident to more this big animal where they are asking it politely to move.

“It also shows parents and teens how to understand each other better as they see the horse’s personality mimic theirs.”

Sue said volunteers are an integral part of the work she does at the FNQ Foster Farm.

“Volunteering can involve animal contact but also non animal contact,” she said. “We really need a fundraising committee to keep the momentum of what Chantelle has started and will continue after the Maize Festival.

“The community can support our fundraising activities and volunteering where they feel able.”

A Sydney artist has compiled an art display using cartons from farms across the Tablelands.

Tableland growers the focus of art show

An art exhibition that will tell the stories of the fruit and vegetable farmers of Far North Queensland opens in Cairns in November, featuring a number of growers from the Tablelands.

Sean Rafferty calls himself a ‘cartonographer’ collecting the fruit and veg cartons from farms

across the region to showcase as part of his display.

“It’s curiority about packaging and I used to work in the fruit and veg industry and developed a bit of a fascination for it over the years,” he said.

“I identify the cartons as markers in the land that have the potential to convey mystic truths about places and their people.

“I started making art work about it and wanted to know a bit more about where they came from.”

Sean was here in May for a research trip visiting some of the growers to add more cartons to his collection. He has been mapping the region through the cartons since 2013.

“I’m creating a kind of map of the cartons,” he said.

“The collection is best seen as an abstract map, getting the stories behind them is kind of like zooming in. The more I can focus on one location, the more I can see.”

During the wet season, a normally dry creek presented a seasonal movement of water as it cascaded over the rockery of the creek bed. St Stephen’s Catholic College has won round one of the year seven and eight QAMT Mathematics Quiz, which was held at Atherton State High School on Thursday, August 9.

The team consisting of Joshua Snell, Sam Jackson and Mi-

lan Maloberti, held off competition from other schools in the Tablelands District to advance to the Cairns regional finals.

The team will head to Cairns to compete in round two later this month.

State heritage listing for trees An avenue of fig trees in Kuranda has been entered in the Queensland Heritage Register.

Queensland Heritage Council Chair Ms Debbie Best said the avenue of Ficus Microcarpa and Ficus Obliqua trees, entirely located with the road reserve, were listed for their historic, aesthetic and social heritage values.

“The avenue comprises 27 ficus trees— lining both sides of Coondoo Street, Kuranda between Therwine and Arara Streets—were planted from 1931 onwards as a Council initiative to beautify the village which was firmly established as a state and national tourist destination by this time,” Ms Best said.

“The plants demonstrate the development of tourism in Far North Queensland in the interwar period, and to this day the expansive trunks and extensive

aerial roots of many of the trees are often photographed by tourists.

“The canopies of the fig trees lining the main street of Kuranda create a physical and visual tunneling effect along many parts of the street, contributing to Kuranda’s distinctive tropical character.

“The trees were planted in the early 1930s through the efforts of local council and community benefactors, and have been valued by locals and visitors alike ever since.”

The Queensland Heritage Council is the state’s independent advisor on heritage matters and determines the places to be entered in the Queensland Heritage Register. Places entered in the Heritage Register are considered important to Queensland’s history and are protected under heritage legislation.

TRC grant program open

Tablelands Regional Council’s grant programs are once again open and accepting applications to provide services and assistance to the community.

“This year we have four separate grant streams,” said Mayor Joe Paronella.

“The Community Grants Program, Economic Development Fund, Youth Assistance Program and Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) are all accepting applications.”

The Community Grants Program provides grants of up to $1000 as cash donations, in-kind support or remittance of some fees and charges to not-for-profit community groups.

In 2017–18 TRC provided $50,000 worth of grants through this and the youth achievers pro-

gram across 114 applications.

“This year we have introduced a Youth Assistance Program that will support young achievers in sporting, academic and cultural endeavours,” explained Mayor Paronella.

“The Economic Development Fund supports initiatives in the community that will help grow local businesses and create more jobs and economic opportunities on the Tablelands.”

It is open to not-for-profit groups, such as industry groups, or businesses looking to fund a project that will not result in direct profit.

“If you have an idea that could help businesses grow, then apply for a grant from the Economic Development Fund,” said Mayor Paronella.

Kindy plans 50th celebrations

Mareeba Community Kindergarten will be turning 50 next year and the anniversary celebrations are already in full swing.

Now based at two centres, the

kindy was originaly the first nonprofit full pre-school program run in Mareeba.

The Stewart Street centre opened its doors officially on October 13, 1969 after fundraising by a group of Mareeba parents. By August of 1969 they had enough money to buy the

house for $6000. Alterations cost another $2000 after a lot of the work, materials and furniture was donated by local service clubs, tradesmen and residents.

Now there are four kindy groups run by four teachers at both the Stewart Street and Sutherland Street centres.

Forum aims to raise awareness of drugs in Mareeba

Next week the issue of drugs in our community will be discussed at length during a form that aims to educate and raise awareness.

The Australian Anti Ice Campaign (AAIC) is hosting an Anti Ice community forum in Mareeba for the first time on August 23. Campaigners will also be working with local high schools to educate students and parents on the dangers of ice through workshop presentations delivered by trained educators.

AAIC Operations Manager Glen Ivis said forums like these have been effective in other towns across Australia.

“It gets people talking and it’s a start,” he said. “Its primary focus is education, awareness and prevention but there is a an outreach element to it as well for anyone that needs it.”

Mr Ivis said that although there had been anti-drug forums in Mareeba before, this was the first by the AAIC and that they were hoping to help stamp out a nation-wide epidemic.

“It’s inundated,” he said.

“We know it’s in the schools Australia wide. We’re not coming to Mareeba high schools because there’s an issue, we’re there more as a preventative measure.”

However Mr Ivis said he was aware through local police that

there were drugs in Mareeba.

Community groups and clubs have been invited to attend the evening which will be held at the Mareeba International Club.

“It’s a call of action to the community,” said Mr Ivis.

“The teachers that we’ve spoken to have said that any kid that saw the program would be put off getting into drugs.”

Mr Ivis said he wanted to thank Hanson Ford and Mareeba Toyota for a generous donation that helped get the program up and running locally.

The Mareeba Community Forum on Ice will take place on August 23 at the Mareeba International Club from 6.30pm onwards.

The Mareeba branch of the Royal Antedilubian Order of Buffalo (RAOB) last week presented three local community groups with a cheque for $650 each.

Mareeba Scouts, Mareeba Guides and Mareeba Animal Refuge were all grateful for the funds boost to their respective organisations.

Prison officer named a hero

Lotus Glen Correctional Centre’s Custodial Corrections Officer, Matthew Cawdell, has been nominated as an everyday hero in this year’s QBANK Everyday Heroes Awards.

Mr Cawdell has been nominated for his volunteer work as Group Leader of the Holloways Beach State Emergency Service Unit.

During March 2018, Mr Cawdell travelled to the remote community of Pormpuraaw to help with the recovery effort following Cyclone Nora crossing the Gulf of Carpentaria coastline. The awards celebrate front line public safety agency officers who have contributed to a better

and safer Queensland by making a positive difference in the community. Mr Cawdell said he was grateful to be nominated for the award.

“Being nice, helpful and kind is what we are meant to do in this world. If we all did our part to help those in need, the Queensland community would be a better and safer place to live,” he said.

Tolga girl taking on international showjump world

Hannah Dearlove may have only just finished high school but already the 17 year old is making headway with her plans to have a career as a professional show jumper.

Hannah is fresh off the plane from France where she was one of a four part team representing Australia at the Generali World Club Tournament.

Riding a borrowed horse, her and her team mates went head to head with some of the best riders in the world.

“It was awesome,” said Hannah from Tolga. “It’s a totally different experience from any-

thing I’ve done before.”

Hannah is a member of Atherton Pony Club, as well as the North Queensland Showjumping Club. She owns two ex-racehorses that she showjumps at local competitions – 7 year old Four Jays, now jumping 1.10m and “showing potential” and Smart Arch, 14, that Hannah has owned for four years.

But the horses she rode in France were completely unknown and Hannah and her team mates were allowed just four rides before they were expected to compete them in the main arena.

“Each of us went out as a team and had a bit of fun,” she said,

“The second day was round one. I went clear and the other girls had four faults. The third day I went clear again and then had one rail down and overall we came 8th out of 14.”

For Hannah, living in a regional part of Queensland means she has to work twice as hard to qualify and win at competitions.

She has access to a coach around once a month whereas riders living in the larger cities have access to round the clock advice. These hurdles have made her success even more compelling.

She says she couldn’t have done it without some valuable sponsors including Tableland Vets and Rocs Stockfeed.

Police frustrated with drink and drug drivers Tablelands police have been left frustrated after eight people were charged in one weekend with drink driving offences and six people with drug driving offences.

Drink driving offences: A 63-year-old Millstream man is expected to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on August 20 after he was intercepted on Raleigh Street Dimbulah and it will be alleged that he returned a reading of 0.072 per cent BAC. A 26-year-old Malanda man was intercepted on Lake Barrine Road, Lake Eacham and it will be alleged that he returned a reading of 0.054 per cent BAC. Police intercepted a 39-yearold Mareeba man on Doyle Street Mareeba and it will be alleged that he returned a reading of 0.054 per cent BAC. A 67-year-old Atherton man

will appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on August 28 after being intercepted on Atherton Herberton Road, Herberton.

It will be alleged he returned a reading of 0.066 per cent BAC. Police intercepted a 23-yearold Atherton man on Grace Street Herberton and it will be alleged that he returned a reading of 0.104 per cent BAC. A 53-year-old Ravenshoe man was intercepted on Moffat Street Ravenshoe and it will be alleged that he returned a reading of 0.111 per cent BAC. A 62-year-old Mareeba man will face the Mareeba Magistrates Court on August 6 after being intercepted on Tinaroo Creek Road, Mareeba. It will be alleged that he returned a reading of 0.133 per cent BAC. Police charged a 21-yearold Mount Sheridan man after

he was intercepted on Danbulla Road and it will be alleged that he returned a reading of 0.191 per cent BAC. He is expected to appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on August 21.

After police charged five people on Wednesday August 1 with drug driving, the results are of great concern to local police.

Inspector Rolf Straatemeier of the Tablelands Patrol Group said police are concerned that any one of those persons affected by drugs or alcohol would likely have their normal driving skills significantly affected.

“This could have had dire consequences,” Inspector Straatemeier said.

“Police will always be out there on our roads, aiming to stop both drug and alcohol affected drivers, wherever they are on the Tablelands,” he said

EXPRESS SPORT PORT Dimbulah boxing night another success Dimbulah Hall was packed on August 4 with locals crowding for a view of some top amateur boxing entertainment.

Boxers at War is a regular event held by Brydes Boxing gym, showcasing the local boxing talent with some tough competition travelling north for the night.

Fight of the night and the main bout was local lad Marcus Rowan going against the tough warrior of Babinda Grant Skates.

Chevy Tobin was not able to compete for the main bout because of a work related injury, but luckily Marcus stood in for the challenge. The fight consisted of four 1.5 min rounds with both men coming out fighting in the 1st round.

Later in the round Marcus ran into a straight right hand that shocked the local, but he kept fighting and the round went all the way until the last 30 seconds of round four.

“Marcus threw all he had and overwhelmed Grant to take out the fight,” said coach Wayne Bryde.

“The crowd went crazy. Family and friends were jumping with joy.

“He has really showed pure heart to take this fight, even for experienced fighters four rounds of boxing is tough going, and to

“Both fighters left nothing behind and were hitting each other left right and centre,” said Wayne.

“Unfortunately Grant dropped his guard down and was hit with a right hand resulting in the end of the fight. Full credits to Gerard for giving it a go.”

Also local boxers Zack Bryde, Matthew Carroll and Georgie Anderson stepped in the boxing ring for some rounds.

Late last month the Naylor Racing team made their way to QLD Raceway, Willowbank, for Round 2 of the Australian Production Car Series.

With a bad history of DNF’s in previous years racing at Willowbank, the team took extra care in preparing the car for a brutal 600km’s of 100 per cent throttle to ensure a solid result.

From the first practice to the final race of the weekend, the Naylor Racing MPS clocked the fastest time in every session, displaying their utter speed.

It was a faultless and problem-free weekend, something that is very uncommon in motorsports.

Mitchell and Leigh put the car on pole position for qualifying, allowing to start in 1st position for Race 1.

Race 1 saw the boys lead the entire race, up until the end where 2nd place made a pitstop under safety car, and undercut them in the pits. They still brought home 2nd, their best result yet.

Co-Coach Angelo Tatti felt for the boys, but was also frustrated as his charges put in a great first half only to fall away in the second half.

“We were in it, I felt we were the better team for most of the first half, but again we fell away in the second period and could not sustain the level of the concentration and work rate,” Tatti stated.

“I feel for the boys, we work so hard to put ourselves in good positions, but then little simple errors are costing us.” Tatti commented.

Littlies get international training

U8s from Atherton Hockey Club had some international coaching recently.

Last week saw Atherton Hockey host a special event Minkies U8s training session and a Goal Keepers clinic thanks to support from Cairns Hockey and their visiting International Players.

“It was a fantastic turnout and all the players enjoyed the training session, benefitting and learning from the highly experienced visitors,” said organisers.

“It was wonderful to see our ‘up and coming’ Hockey stars showing off their skills.”

Atherton Hockey is fast approaching finals time and all training sessions are crucial to the finals preparation, but as always the focus is on having fun and enjoying the game.

The Mareeba Bulls premier men’s side again turned out a spirited first 45 minutes, only to fall away in the second period to go down 4-1 to arch rivals the Stratford Dolphins on Sunday at Stratford.

The Bulls went into the match keen to erase last weekend’s disappointing 5-0 loss to the Comets. After going down early they fought back to 1-1 midway through the first half and looked the better side with striker Steven Cater scoring and also hitting post as the Bulls dominated, but then against the run of play the home side hit the front late in the first period to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

A halftime power outage brought the lights down on the Bulls and after the delayed start the away side came out without the vigour and drive of the first period and paid the price as the Dolphins ran away with a 4-1 win ending the Bulls chances
