Plan to cut bills

THE Newman government has pledged to reduce household electricity bills for Cook electorate families, if re-elected in 2015. The Queensland Competition Authority (QCA)has gone on the record of saying that households would save $49 and businesses $88 per year under the guidance of the Newman government. With all candidates and parties gearing up for an intense battle for seats, Member for Cook

KAP candidate for Cook Lee Marriott said he wasn’t sure the Newman government would be able to ensure long-term relief from exorbitant electricity prices. “I don’t agree that they will be able to reduce costs,” he said. “Maybe in the short term, but with privatisation of assets, it makes the process more difficult.” If victorious in the Cook electorate race next year, Mr Marriott said he would be keen for greater research into feed-in tariffs, which could reduce prices over time.
