mediation of light + mediation on matter 2018 Fall Semester Profs. Lisa Huang & Lee-Su Huang light drawing materials study facade develop 1-1 scale construction MEDIATION OF LIGHT + MEDIATION ON MATTER is a project develop around i ssues o f light, materials and assemblye. L ight i s movement. The i ntent o f the composition drawing i s to capture that essence. I t also t alks about t he c oexistence between the light and dark, and how one needs the other to exist. In addition, the light constantly changes the perception of our eyes and how we see depends on the amount of light received (indirect or direct) to an object. By manipulating light we can shape and define spaces. This drawing, a lso t akes a s a precedent a rchitectural screens and brise-soleil, to express how to capture light and change its shape and intensity0 based on the points of view through the time (day/night). The experimentation part pursues the same idea, by creating shadows we can capture light and its instances. But specifically how the light interact with the surface. By manipulating plaster in a spandex fabric with a frame of wood and balloons, and other materials like concrete, plastic, etc. was able to create a piece that had different depths allowing a playfulness in the lights intensity. The use of an elastic medium in order create a piece that could be as fluid yet have the rigidity of light itself. The dialog between the light and dark is explored by a piece that produces both, showing how one cannot exist without

meditation space, sj 2014 Fall Semester Prof. Nataniel Fuster Meditation Space Chapell The MEDITATION SPACE without specific denomination is located in a bastion, very close to the wall in the Old San Juan. It defines the space through the use of light, works with natural ventilation and integrates the different urban sequences. It provides an environment of reflection, which disconnects you and seeks to transport you to another space. It aims to give that look to the sky and connect with the others through the contrasts between the exterior and the interior.

Self Sufficient Lunar Colony Partners Isais Rubert Hillary Morales Isaac Mangual “MOONTOPIA is Eleven’s first international ideas and design COMPETITON on Space Architecture”. To design something literally out of our world, means that we need to start from scratch. The Atom is the base unit that allows the development of everything around us. Mission IOTA behaves in the same way. Join IASA’s (International Aeronautics and Space Association) 6 brave astronauts, from the moment they set foot on the moon to the day they depart for their next expedition. Mission IOTA was conceived as a project of many phases:1 (crater selection, habitable spacecraft, shield protection, research facilities, and the exterior shield) 2 (underground experience) 3 (tunnel network, and gravity rings) and 4 (planetary exploration).

Re-formulate a local Fence sj 2017 Fall Semester Prof. Humberto Cavallin Calanche Parametric facade San Juan, Puerto Rico Partner: Suzette Lopez The LOCAL FENCE is a Parametric facade base on a Puerto Rican common- existing fence located in the “Paseo de Diego on Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico near to the new building. The main idea of this project is to choose a existing fence in the Urban center of Rio Piedras, analyzed the different conditions (lighting, wind, security and publicprivate) and develop a new facade that respond to this conditions. We go through the different scales and re-formulate this local architectural element. As part of this project we use the Grasshopper pluging for Rhinoceros. This tool help us to stablish a logarithm base on the different conditions found on the site, for example the aperture, depth, distance and enclosure of the pieces.

Robin Planas & Blanquita Calzada/ Anja Juratz Puerto Rico/ Slovenia Joint Studio Visitor Center Bukovnisco, Slovenia Partners: Fernando Claudio, PR Macarena Fernรกndez, SLO Adrian Porto, SLO The BUKOVNISCO PATH VISITOR CENTER is a group project made in the joint studio Puerto Rico/ Slovenia 2015. The project consists in creating three hotspots around the lake interconnected. Those targets can work together creating a touristic complex able to afford any need, but without losing the previous values and tradition of the place, in fact the goal is to reinforce and improve them. To achieve that goal the architectural project has to be respectful with the precious place, taking care of the topography and greenery, trying to protect the site, being sustainable and taking approach of the energies and the views of the lake.

The museum educate about the naval history of Puerto Rico and America. The building itself speaks about the experience of being on a boat which means enter through the bottom, move one way and cross it completely. The structure also makes use of cautious but potent natural light inputs as part of that same route. The project takes in consideration the powerful site where it is located and makes use of the current condition to open towards the water and frame the views.

home 114, nm 2016 Spring Semester Prof. Anna Georas Home (one family) Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico The HOME 114 has a central position in the Pueblo of Ohkay Owingeh, New Mexico. It is located in the middle of two Plazas, and next to the ceremonial spaces. The location is used as a fundamental part of the concept, to produce a direct relationship between the interior and the exterior of the house with the surroundings. This works through a visual connection due to a brick latticework that over all connect the interior of the house with the Plazas and courtyard, and also have terraces to achieve those spaces views.

urban analysis

2019 Spring Semester Profs. Mark Mcglothlin & Bradley Walters Partners: Verity Blevins Maxwell Hunold Mani Karami Maria Paredes Kyle Tonkins This URBAN ANALYSIS of the city of Philadelphia was developed on a nine by six feet long canvas. This one allows us to explore different graphics techniques (drawing, painting, stitching, transferring images) in order to represent our perception of the urban fabric of the city. When we were creating this mapping of the city in between two rivers, we use as starting point principal streets (Broad and Market) which meet in one point and organized the grid of the city. We also point out important spaces or landmarks of t he c ity w ith t he i ntention of understanding r elationships and scales. I t became a collage that helps us to understands the place and its densities.

pieces, jewelry class 2015 Fall Semester Jewelry Class Prof. Gabriela Rodríguez We have a really special connection between our brain and our hands, I think every piece we made we our hands has a meaning and singularity. The selected “JEWELRY PIECES” are showing different techniques learned from the jewelry elective class. As a little girl I have always love making jewelry for my sisters and friends. In this class I could take it to a next level. It was very interesting to learn about the materials (cooper, bronze & silver) and their properties and how to give a form to my ideas. I also learned different techniques like fretwork and welding. Today I still use this pieces, I keep practicing and connect the things learned in my architectural works.

abstract watercolors 2017 Spring Semester The ABSTRACT WATERCOLORS where inspired in a deep investigation about the Puerto Rican Migration. My focus was the literature about migration, where becomes a reflection of the history based on the desire to the return of the longing of the lost good. I was also observing the identity contruction process through experiences and as a result we have a fragmented subject (which I feel very identify as an inmigrant). That is why I chose the puertorican poet Julia De Burgos, as a starting point for the development of the images, because she literally represent all of this. In her journey through the Caribean Island and differents states she started asking about “who she is? and at the same time conceives her poetic voice. These drawings are my representation of the idealized space of Julia in her poetry. They talk about the fluidity and this is the reason why I use watercolors. Each of them are made with a different technique that reflects differents states of the journey. 01= Earth - representing what we left, made with watercolors and plastic bags. 02= River- representing the start of the journey , made with watercolors and just pure water. 03= Ocean - representing the interstitial space, made with watercolors and water with salt. 04= Sky- representing to fly away, made with watercolors and grains of salt. 05= Universe/Stars- representing the distance , made with watercolorsa and alcohol. These spaces or moments with different treatments but with a common medium t hat creates the identity (image) in the distance.

study abroad trip: france 2015 Summer Study Abroad, France Prof. Gabriela Flores These are a selection of sketches of the collection I made during the STUDY ABROAD TRIP TO FRANCE in summer 2015. A group of students and me were in different places in France like Villa Savoye, the iconic Eiffel Tower, Parc de la Villete, the Mont Saint Michel and much more. We were also learning about the culture and language. Stay in those architectural works of the biggest architects that I have learn in my Architectural History classes was an awesome experience. These are very “quick sketches made in place with different techniques (pencil, micron, watercolors, etc).

photography 2016 April - May 1st place AIAS Architecture Through the Details, competition Photography composition I have always like the ability of freeze moments for future generations or just to look back. I have participated and won 1st place on AIAS ARCHITECTURE THROUGH THE DETAILS 2016 which is the annual AIAS photography competition. Consist in a composition of three to five pictures of architectural details. The composition that I summit is about the Foundation Louis Vuitton, by Frank Gehry. I took the pictures in the Study Abroad Trip: France in summer 2015. To continue developing this fantastic art I am taking classes, because I think the visualization of the world through the lens have a direct connection as how our eye perceive the world and the architecture. In the next pages I present some of the pictures I took in the past years of various places I visited.
