Vol. 1: Spells for a New Home

When moving into a new home, it is extremely important to cleanse the space and make it your own.

One of my favorite ways to cleanse a home of negative energy left over from previous occupants is to pick up a broom or mop and get to work. Physical cleaning can easily be a form of cleansing– just focus your intent and clean your home from top to bottom. Additionally, a saltwater or lemon spray can add a little extra strength to your efforts.

If after a good scrubbing, your home still feels icky, there might be something else going on, so turn your attention to more severe possibilities such as spirits or curses.

WARNING: Please remember that smudging (in general terms, the burning of white sage to cleanse a space) is a cultural practice that is specific to several indigenous religions. There are many other ways to cleanse, and none of them are culturally appropriative in the same way that smudging is. Please be aware of this, and cleanse with caution and respect.

Certain types of spells will be more suited for your transition or journey into a new home. These spells can focus on: healing, protection, abundance, happiness, fertility, safety, harmony, sanctuary, and peace.

HOME BLESSING Smoke of air & fire & earth, Cleanse & bless this home & hearth. Drive away all harm & fear. Only good may enter here.

Use this chant to bless and protect your new home. Repeat while cleansing, especially doorways.

OTHER NEW HOME TIPS: Open the windows to keep a natural flow of energy. Use light to create a calm, healing atmosphere. Hang a witch ball (a hollow glass sphere) or suncatcher in a window to ward off ill fortune and gather positive energy. Make offerings to your deities or ask them to bestow their blessing on your home.

Bury a raw egg in your yard to welcome abundance and fertility. Sprinkle salt across doorways for easy protection. Establish some simple wards and maintain them regularly. Bring plants and animals into your home for company and a sense of community. Be cautious about the energy that others may carry into your new home.
