The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and QM Gallery – Al Riwaq Until Safar Presented in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a free exhibition 24 Jan 2023 highlighting the experiences of Afghan refugees after their evacuation in 2021. Until Baghdad: Eye's Delight The museum's first exhibition in its new galleries, celebrating 25 Feb 2023 Baghdad as the most important and influential city ever created in the Islamic world. It will show Baghdad’s outstanding heritage as the capital of the great Abbasid caliphs (750–1258 CE), when the city again experienced prosperity in the 20th century with the discovery of oil. The exhibition features objects on loan from 22 institutions such as the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Benaki Museum, and the Vatican. Until Raku Kichizaemon XV·JikinyU: A Living Tradition of 30 Mar 2023 Japanese Pottery Raku refers to a process in the production of pottery, and is also the family name of the Japanese dynasty that used this process for 16 consecutive generations. Raku Kichizaemon XV·JikinyU is the 15th generation of the family – after visiting Qatar in 2018, Raku was inspired to create works using sands and minerals from the Qatari desert into the body and glazes of a series of tea bowls (shown right). Until Lusail Museum: Tales of a Connected World 1 Apr 2023 Introducing the new museum designed by Herzog & de Meuron under development in Lusail City. On display are Orientalist art, archaeological artefacts and media from prehistoric times to the 21st century for a new, enlightened and constructive world perspective. Qatar sands, Japanese Shigaraki clay and porcelain 2022, private collection Opening times Saturday to Thursday 9 am – 7 pm, Friday 1:30 pm – 7 pm. Special operating hours will be in effect until 20 December, and the museum will be closed on 2/6/9 December. MIA Park and Flag Plaza will remain open and accessible to the public 24 hours a day. Admission: Tickets must be purchased online in advance. Due to road closures during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, the Museum of Islamic Art and QM Gallery – Al Riwaq will not be accessible by car.
