The project is based on self-expression of women through fashion and makeup in the 21st century. The concept behind my photoshoot is to subvert the female stereotypes from the 1930’s onwards. The distinguished image of the ideal woman is eliminated in the photoshoot. I wanted the model to express herself as an individual and not only as a woman. The background was chosen to reflect her personality as well as the model representing her personality by the way she’s dressed, the poses, the props used and how she’s positioned in the frame. I want a level of authenticity to appear in the shoot; for example, I want the pictures to appear very raw with the model’s blemishes and flaws on display. The flaws and her explicit personality are there to emphasise that women aren’t perfect. The meaning of what it is to be a woman in the 21st century has developed different meanings and opinion to fit personal beliefs.
