Ron Arad possesses the gift of diluting limits that separate reality from the unreal. Material surrenders before his talent, allowing the victory of the forms over material.

His designs imply a conceptual reinvention of each object, a creative process from which pieces are obtained where there is no space for preconceived ideas of utility and aspect. Holon / Israel / 2006-2009 First national museum dedicated to design and architecture in Israel

The Israeli city of Holon, the country’s innovative cultural centre, situated a few kilometres from Tel Aviv is the mark where the National Design Museum is situated. Its design lies in Arad’s talent, at the same time Arad makes of architecture his particular tool to play with shapes and volume, creating a cultural space.

La ciudad israelí de Holon, nuevo centro cultural del país, situada a pocos kilómetros de Tel Aviv, es el marco en el que se asienta el Museo de Diseño Nacional. Su diseño recae en el talento de Arad, y Arad hace de la arquitectura su particular herramienta para jugar con formas y volúmenes, creando un espacio escultural.

The building’s exterior appears to be wrapped in sinuous Cor-Ten steel ribbons. Its dazzling appearance masks its functionality, a structure which creates exterior exhibition galleries that guides visitors through a semi-covered patio which presents the interior of the museum from an exterior view.

El exterior de este edificio parece envuelto en una seductora sucesión de cintas cobrizas. Su deslumbrante apariencia encubre su funcionalidad, una estructura que crea salas de exposición exteriores y que guía a los visitantes a través de un patio semi-cubierto que presenta el interior del museo en una vista exterior.

Arad hace de la arquitectura su particular herramienta para jugar con formas y volúmenes, creando un espacio escultural The interior composes of two levels, its height being defined by the unevenness of the ground. Arad endowed the top gallery of 500 m2 with an excellent adjustable natural light, whilst the ground gallery of 250 m2 is taller inside but offers a more intimate atmosphere, marked in a structure marked by its spectacular height. El interior se compone de dos niveles cuyas alturas vienen definidas por el propio desnivel del terreno. Arad dota de una excelente iluminación natural graduable a la sala superior, de una extensión de 500 m², mientras que en la sala inferior, de 250 m², ofrece un ambiente intimista enmarcado en una estructura en la que la gran altura del techo destaca por su espectacularidad.

Further on than its utility as a shopping centre, Arad designs a building which in itself is another monument more in the city, a work of art which receives as much tourists, as visitors appropriate for the function in which it was designed. Este proyecto supone para la ciudad belga de Lieja un icono de modernidad. Más allá de su utilidad como centro comercial, Arad diseña un edificio que es en si mismo un monumento más de la ciudad, una obra que recibe visitas tanto turísticas como las propias de la función para la que fue diseñado.

El exterior se presenta como una superposición de óvalos de cristal enmarcados en acero. Como es habitual en Arad, ningún elemento decorativo, por impresionante que este sea, carece de un aspecto funcional y estos gigantescos óvalos siguen esta norma: cada uno de ellos se transforma en el interior en elementos arquitectónicos divisorios que dan estructura y distribuyen los espacios. Y si el exterior posee un efecto visual impactante, el interior resulta simplemente deslumbrante. La luz natural y el vivaz colorido se expresan mediante una impresionante renovación conceptual de la tradicional vidriera. El acero sustituye al hilo de cobre en monumentales diseños florales que cambian su habitual posición en ventanales para situarse en el techo, desde donde producen diferentes volúmenes que generan en los visitantes diversas sensaciones.

If the exterior possesses an over-whelming visual effect, the interior results simply dazzling The exterior presents as a superposition of glass ovals framed in steel. As is common in Arad, no decorative element, as impressive as it may be, lacks a functional aspect and these gigantic ovals follow this rule: each and every one of them transform in the interior in architectural divisive elements which give structure and distribute space. If the exterior possesses an overwhelming visual effect, the interior results simply dazzling. The natural light and the vivacious colouring are expressed through an impressive conceptual renovation of traditional glass windows. The steel substitutes the copper thread in monumental floral designs which change there usual position in large windows to be positioned in the roof, from where different spaces are produced which generate diverse sensations in the visitors. MOBILIARIO & INTERIORISMO // FURNITURE & INTERIOR DESIGN The formation in industrial design of Ron Arad comes together with a playful creativity, almost eccentric, which as a result offers furniture pieces where priority is given to a revolutionary aesthetic innovation. Armchairs, benches, table or ceiling lamps are transformed under Arad’s vision and acquire forms in different materials, such as steel, aluminium, bronze, crystal, optical fibre, thermoplastic or LED... Everything has a place in Arad’s universe, an imaginary horizon in which each concept undergoes a radical metamorphosis difficult to catalogue, which offers a view between dreamlike and surreal usual functional elements.

La formación en diseño industrial de Ron Arad se une a una creatividad lúdica, casi excéntrica, que da como resultado piezas de mobiliario en las que prima una innovación estética revolucionaria. Sillones, bancos, lámparas de mesa o de techo se transforman bajo la visión de Arad y adquieren forma en materiales dispares como acero, aluminio, bronce, termoplásticos, cristal, fibra óptica o LED’s… Todo tiene cabida en el universo Arad, un horizonte imaginario en el que cada concepto se somete a una metamorfosis radical difícil de catalogar, que ofrece una visión entre onírica y surrealista de elementos funcionalmente habituales.

Three Skin Chair For Moroso, Ron Arad has trod a strong material-orientated path from polyethylene upholstery to wood. His successful Victoria and Albert collection was followed by the Little Albert and The Big E armchairs in polyethylene. The Three Skin Chair was produced using wood for the first time. Powerfully sculptural and extremely sinuous, the Three Skin Chair is in multilayered lacquered wood. A GOLDEN PROPORTION OF EMOTION

When Philippe Soulier unites his experiences with the multi-cultural contrast he experiments in Marbella he cannot imagine yet that his next destination, Marrakech will suppose a radical change in his manner of understanding and conceiving the relationship between space, atmosphere and human emotion, and that he would be responsible for transferring this dreamlike concept to the tangible world. Cuando Philippe Soulier aúna sus vivencias en Nigeria y el contraste multicultural que experimenta en su estancia en Marbella no imagina aún que su próximo destino, Marrakech, va a suponer un vuelco radical en su forma de entender y concebir la relación entre el espacio, el ambiente y la emoción humana, y que él mismo sería el encargado de trasladar este concepto onírico al mundo tangible.

hat originally appeared to be the acquisition of a large residence to share with family and friends, took a surprising turn towards a project which after seven years of effort, enthusiasm and passion has become Hotel Palais Namaskar. In front of a café Philippe Soulier confesses to Zacharias Kirmanidis, the editor of Decostile, that his intention on constructing this hotel was to give life to “a place designed with the ambition of allowing people to experience the perfect serene moment. That it be paradise”, to which Zacharias Kirmanidis adds, “The creation of a public area is magic. People are going to live and criticise it, therefore it is necessary to join different aspects to the taste of all and analyise every detail in order that it should differ from any other”. Lo que en un principio se planteó como la adquisición de una residencia de grandes dimensiones, para compartir con familiares y amigos, dio un giro sorprendente hacia un proyecto que, tras 7 años de esfuerzo, ilusión y pasión, se ha convertido en el Hotel Palais Namaskar. Delante de un café, Philippe Soulier confiesa al editor de Decostile, Zacharias Kirmanidis, que su intención al construir este hotel era dar vida a “un lugar ideado con la ambición de permitir que la gente experimente el momento perfecto, donde haya serenidad. Que sea un paraíso”, a lo que Zacharias Kirmanidis añade que “la creación de un espacio público es magia. La gente va a vivirlo y criticarlo, por lo que hay que unir diferentes aspectos para que guste a todos y pensar en cada detalle para que se distinga de cualquier otro”. DecoStile 25

That it be paradise” In this same conceptual line we find the architect who bears the materialization of this ‘emotional product’, the Algerian Imaad Rahmouni, architect ‘fetish’ of one of the great gurus of current architecture, Philippe Starck. Still completely unaware of the catering industry, Soulier sharpens his natural curiosity and considers everything in sight around him, in search of those small details that make every restaurant, hotel or bar that he visits a pleasant, relaxing and balanced location. Enjoying a bottle of champagne, Philippe and Imaad chat, conceptualize and even discuss sensations, details and locations. These ideas, once agreed are designed on paper to physical perfection. This marvel of a creation which is divided into a total of 41 units that comprise three different types of bedroom, four types of suites, two styles of luxury villas and two stunning palaces. 26

En esta misma línea conceptual se sitúa el arquitecto sobre quien recae la materialización de este “proyecto emocional”, el argelino Imaad Rahmouni, arquitecto “fetiche” de uno de los grandes gurús de la arquitectura actual, Philippe Starck. Aun desconociendo por completo el sector de la hostelería, Soulier agudiza su natural curiosidad y analiza cuanto ve en su entorno en busca de aquellos pequeños detalles que hacen de cada restaurante, hotel o bar que visita un lugar agradable, relajante y equilibrado. Disfrutando de una botella de champagne, Philippe e Imaad charlan, conceptualizan e incluso discuten sobre sensaciones, detalles y espacios. Estas ideas, una vez consensuadas, pasan al papel en forma de diseño para convertirse físicamente en perfección. Esta maravilla de la creación se divide en un total de 41 unidades que comprenden tres diferentes tipos de dormitorio, cuatro tipos de suites, dos diferentes estilos de villas de lujo y dos sorprendentes palacios.

Hotel Palais Namaskar is situated on a large extension of gardens, with incomparable views of the mountains, bringing to mind those described in the ancient stories that spoke of the beauty of the mythical Babylon. And in these gardens, a song through the water murmurs calmness from the swimming pool, framed by arches carved in the traditional Rajasthan style. At nightfall, the lighting converts the resort into a magical space, where every corner casts a spell that soothes body, mind and soul. For the interior of this work of art Philippe Soulier has not spared in personal effort, economic investment or absolute abundance of talent, imagination and almost insatiable perfectionism. Every tiny detail should add comfort, practicality and positive energy to the entire set. Once the perfect elements were chosen, a shallow tangible relationship of this dream come true, casts data as nearly 100 specially designed

Este incomparable marco solamente se podía sublimar con una arquitectura más allá del lujo de los cuentos de las mil y una noches. Bañada por la luz del día y como una rosa tallada en marfil, adornada con doradas cúpulas, la composición arquitectónica emana elegancia, relajación y equilibrio. Al caer la noche, la iluminación convierte el complejo hotelero en un espacio mágico, en el que cada rincón ofrece un hechizo que apacigua cuerpo, mente y alma. Para el interior de esta obra de arte, Philippe Soulier no repara en esfuerzo personal, inversión económica y derroche absoluto de imaginación, talento y perfeccionismo casi insaciable. Cada ínfimo detalle debía añadir confort, practicidad y energía positiva al conjunto total. Una vez elegidos los elementos perfectos, una somera relación tangible de este sueño hecho realidad arroja datos como

His passion as a creator and his desire to see his work carried out were so strong that, alone they brought him to overcome doubts, obstacles and setbacks in order to offer the world a micro universe which seems to detach itself from the ground to place paradise between the earth and the sky. El hotel Palais Namaskar ha supuesto un hito y un punto de inflexión en la vida de Philippe Soulier. Su pasión de creador y el afán de ver su obra realizada fueron tan fuertes que, por sí mismos le llevaron a superar dudas, obstáculos y contratiempos para ofrecer al mundo un micro universo que parece despegarse del suelo para situar el paraíso entre la tierra y el cielo.

GASTRONOMY AND UNIQUE COMBINATIONS IN IDYLLIC SCENERIES The essence of perfection, relaxation and stability that emanates from every room of the Hotel, extends to the bar and restaurant service because in Palais Namaskar absolutely everything is intended for the intense enjoyment, thrill and pleasure of its clientele, through every tiny detail including chairs of B&B; specially selected in Italy, in which it is possible to remain seated for more than 4 hours without accusing any weariness, the elegant silverware of Christofle or the crystal ware of Sweisel. An elegant French cuisine wisely combined with Moroccan influences by chef Antoine Perray, conquers not only due its perfect preparation and excellent presentation, but for its excellent professional service allowing the client to deal solely with the delight of the senses, and the choice of whether to eat or dine in the restaurant; near the lake by candlelight, a picnic in the gardens or contemplating the stars from the privacy of their own terrace.

The Tournament For the 2009 edition of ‘London Design Festival’ Jaime Hayon recreates ‘The Battle of Trafalgar’, which took place in Cádiz waters in 1805. ‘The Tournament’ presents a monumental chess board which conquers the place of the well-known London Trafalgar Square. All 32 pieces, every one measuring 2 metres high, are confectioned by hand and are hand painted in black, white, golden and silver conferring a very personal touch and an incalculable artistic value to this great work. But without a shadow of a doubt, what makes every one of these pieces specially unique with full meaning and emotional connection to this festival it the fact that they all represent different elements of culture, society and British Art as well as the monarchy, represented by the Queen piece, the Tower, which adopts the shape of the famous ‘Tower of London’ or the tradition of the medieval gentlemen which are reflected as the horse pieces. Jaime Hayon recrea la Batalla de Trafalgar, acaecida en aguas gaditanas en 1.805, para la edición de 2.009 del “London Design Festival”. “The Tournament” presenta un monumental tablero de ajedrez que conquista el espacio de la conocida plaza londinense Trafalgar Square. El estudio “Messeg Desing” es un centro de explosión técnica y creativa que alimenta dos vertientes artísticas: De una parte, las piezas de “arte funcional”, que el estudio crea artesanalmente y de forma personalizada para grandes proyectos decorativos, destinados a una clientela de alto standing. Estas obras destacan por su originalidad y su perfecta ejecución, dando como resultado espectaculares vallados, puertas, rejas y cancelas con innovadores diseños, o cabeceros de cama, mesas, sillas, lámparas, apliques y candelabros en los que se reinventa el concepto de la forja tradicional, transformándolo en modernidad y vanguardia, con modelos exclusivos a medida. The world of tennis has always been linked to the development of Puente Romano Hotel. Its Tennis Club was the location chosen for the celebration of the classification of the Davis Cup between Spain and Mexico, where the victory was for Spain’s team. In 2000 the Australian team choose Puente Romano as their venue to prepare in view of Barcelona’s Davis Cup, and since 2004, their courts are home to ‘The Nations’ Cup’ whose different editions have appointed stars such as John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Emilio Sánchez Vicario, Mats Wilander, Jim Currier, Thomas Muster or Yannick Noah, among others. Puente Romano has also shown its support for women’s tennis being the official venue for the ‘Andalucía Tennis Experience’ tournament. But its social activity extends also to the social area in support of the most unfortunate, collaborating as ‘Patron Benefactor’ of the ‘Queen Sofía Foundation’ in their fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

МУЗЕЙ НАЦИОНАЛЬНОГО ДИЗАЙНА ХОЛОН Израильский город Холон, инновационный и культурный центр страны, расположенный в нескольких километрах от Тель-Авива приглашает в Национальный Музей Дизайна. Талант Арада - это фундамент его конструкции; великий дизайнер делает архитектуру своим особым инструментом, виртуозно играя с формой и объемом, создавая культурное пространство. Внешность здания, кажется, обернута в извилистые медные ленты. Этот великолепный образ маскирует функциональность, структуру, которая создает внешние галереи выставки, ведущие посетителей через полупокрытый внутренний дворик, который показывает интерьер музея посредством внешнего представления. Интерьер состоит из двух уровней,его высота подчеркивается неровностью земли. Арад обеспечил главную галерею,размером 500 м2 превосходным естественным светом,в то время как малая галерея, составляет 250 м2 и наделена чарующей интимной атмосферой,подчеркивающей ее захватывающую высоту. 88

ДИЗАЙН МЕБЕЛИ Внешнее пространство представлено как оригинальное положение стеклянных овалов в стальной оправе. Как это характерно для Арада, ни один из элементов дизайна, каким бы впечатляющим он ни был, не испытывает недостаток в функциональном аспекте, и эти гигантские овалы следуют этому правилу: каждый из них является декоративным элементом, дающим структуру и распределяющим пространство. Если внешность обладает восхитительным визуальным эффектом, внутренние результаты просто ослепительны. Естественный свет и оживленная окраска преображены посредством внушительной концептуальной реконструкции традиционных стеклянных окон. Сталь заменяется медной нитью в монументальных цветочных проектах, которые вместо своего обычного положения в больших окнах, помещены в крышу; этот оригинальный дизайнерский подход производит разнообразные впечатления на посетителей.

Если внешность обладает восхитительным визуальным эффектом, внутренние результаты просто ослепительны.

Образование Рона Арада в промышленном дизайне объединяется с игривым творческим потенциалом, почти эксцентричным, который в результате предлагает предметы мебели, где приоритет дан революционному эстетическому новшеству. Кресла, скамьи, стол или люстры преобразованы под видением Арада и приобретают формы в различных материалах, таких как сталь, алюминий, бронза, кристалл, оптическое волокно, термопласт или LED. У всего есть место во вселенной Арада,он создает воображаемый горизонт, в котором каждое понятие подвергается радикальной метаморфозе, трудной к определению, открывая сказочный и ирреальный вид на обычные функциональные элементы.
