editorial policy
v. 9 i. 2
Marian presents Burn, a literary arts magazine that strives to showcase the original art, photography and creative writing of our student body. Burn is published twice a year, once per semester, and we accept submissions from all grade levels. Our submissions are judged anonymously, and those that are selected are subject to minor grammatical corrections. Burn is a forum for creative student expression. Our goal is to give students a place to publish their work and a place to have their peers appreciate their work. Burn is published by Graphic Technologies, Inc. For the 20182019 school year, there will be 800 copies printed per semester. All titles of pieces and page numbers are set in Kathen font. The writing is set in Avenir Light. The softwares used were Adobe InDesign CS6 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. Our advisers were art teacher Mrs. Lindsay Cisco and journalism teacher Mrs. Marsha Kalkowski. Every letter a different shade, Blending melodies together both harmonious and dissonant. A distinct scene is created with my paintbrush, Emerald green leaves flutter in the wind of my wispy and delicate words. Glass water flows down the stream, singing sweet phrases of power and peace. The universe dances as I capture the world in a whirlwind of calm.

What does it mean to be alive? Is it experiencing the soft, smooth touch of grass against your bare feet? Or maybe the calming feeling of diving into water and floating to the top? Could it even be the warm, cozy smell of a warm fire crackling against a starry sky? No it couldn’t be; You must be always happy to notice those small details. So that means, to be alive we must experience Pain Bliss Hunger Satisfaction Hopelessness Comfort Sadness Relief Betrayal Excitement Failure Success And everything else that requires us to open our hearts to new emotions, sights, and all that is in-between. Only then will we know what it means To be alive

I want to look back and honestly say that I payed attention to the dust in my hands. I didn’t let it slip through or sit back and watch until nothing remained in my palm. I want to say that I tended to what laid in my hands. I tended to the now. That I tended to what was right in front of me. So that I never look back wishing I had.
