Isolation of old people



The problem we would like to tackle is old people’s isolation. This problem affects mostly elderly people who live in small villages. The isolation causes problems such as an increase of scams and frauds. This issue gets worse as people grow older and live alone. Because they are afraid of being robbed, they cut themselves off from everything and everyone. We are concerned about the problem because we all have loving caring grandparents we cherish and we wouldn’t like them to live this way. To avoid the isolation of the elderly we can visit them whenever we can or help them whenever they need.

We are concerned with the fact that there is no guide to identify the vast variety of mushrooms existing in our region. This can represent a serious health problem to the population of Sátão.t. We are concerned about this problem because there is not enough information about the mushrooms in our region and we can confuse healthy mushrooms with poisoned mushrooms. On the other hand, mushrooms are an attraction to our town. Visitors come to Sátão every year for the festival of the “Feira do Míscaro” and it would be an excellent idea to collect information on the properties of the mushrooms and their nutritive value and recipes we can make with some. To solve this problem, we would like to create a guide to inform people about the mushrooms types that can be found in Sátão, benefits and risks and recipes.

I used to be a passionate mushroom picker when I was a child and a teenager. In our region grow deadly mushrooms, and I learned very soon how to recognize them, with the help of a book. Now I do not hunt fungi anymore because in Italy you have to attend a course to get a license, for which you have to pay an annual fee. This requirement has helped reduce the deadly poisonings, but still a few people every year visit the ERs because of fungi. Comment

Some of the causes for this are, for example, garbage that accumulates in our forests and lack of preventive measures that could be taken. The problem affects some animals like dogs and cats, it is Abandonment of animals.The problem is experienced because some people leave their animals alone in any place and do not care about them anymore. It happens in my community/village.The problem is experienced everyday.We are interested in solve this problem because animals, like the humans, have rights...they deserve to live like us, to have food like us and to have a home. They can't be mistreated because they feel pain too. To solve this problem we can talk to vets or dog kennels and help them find lost pets to give them a home and the possibility of having a family that cares about them.

Domestic violence occurs because the attackers may have had a worse day and unloads their hunger onto the weakest people who are nearby, their partner or children and when people are drunk, drugged. I am concerned about this issue because it is a shocking problem and would like to help people who are victim of domestic violence, these people can be anyone friends or even our relatives .And I´d like to encourage them to denounce the people who mistreat them. What about organizing a campaign to call people' s awareness to the consequences of not recycling? Organizing a march for Earth Day and offering coloured bags to separate the litter to the local shops for example and invite them to participate in the campaign for a week by sorting out the plastics, cardboards, paper, glass and take them to recycle bank. In our school, Stringher, as in most places around our region (Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the north east of Italy), sorting waste has been implemented. At school there aren't waste bins in the classes, but big containers in the corridors for plastic, paper, etc. The problem is that not all students use them correctly (see our action to improve the collection of litter for recycling).As for your school, I may suggest you try separating waste in the class, and learn where are the recycling banks to bring it there. Then students may tell their families, friends, etc. to do the same. I understand how big is the waste disposal business some illegal landfills have been found here too.

Civil protection volunteering



Forty years ago, on the 6th May 1976, our region was hit by a disastrous earthquake which killed almost 1000 people and destroyed entire cities and villages. During the organization for rescue the first form of civil protection was established. Now Civil Protection (Protezione Civile) is an istitution dedicated to the interventions and aid in case of natural events with its specializated staff and a network of voluteers in the territory. To spread the knowlenge of these institutions, at the beginning of April we will organize in our school an informational event open to other classes to know and to spread the culture of civil volunteering.

In the corridors of our school there are containers for separate collection of waste for recycling (paper, plastic, unsorted waste). In most villages or cities where students live, separate collection of waste has already been implemented for several years. However, at school, often litter is not thrown in the right container. In order to improve the collection for recycling by the students and the school staff, our class will prepare posters, signs, etc. that will be put near the containers. We will take pictures of the containers before and after our action to monitor the efficacy of our signs. We will monitor the use of containers in the period endofMarch / endofApril.

LILT Race



In our region there is a great sensitivity about deterrence of the tumors, that affect people of different ages. We had decided to partecipate to "LILT Race" (LILT is an acronym for " Lega Italiana per la lotta cantro i tumori", Italian League against cancer) as athletes and as a race assistants. The race will take pleace on 9 April in "Parco del Cormor", a city park near our school. Our school organizes the race for all city schools. The race consists in a relay 4x1000 in which various teams take part to remember that keeping fit is an important way of preventing cancer. The race is organizes to sensitize and inform students on prevention of cancer; in schools will be held experts talks.

More and more teenagers smoke cigarettes. In our school there is a group of students who leave school during the breaks ( which is not legal ) and smoke outside the school area. One problem is that they break the law and lead unhealthy lifestyle. But the other problem is that people who live near the school complain that there is a lot of cigarette butts around their possessions.

Students are going to make posters which will inform about the bad influence of smoking on our health, and the posters with the kind of request not to break the school law ( which says that students cannot leave school area during the lessons) . Another thing is that they will ask the local police authorities to cooperate with school and to make some discussions with students who break the law. They are also going to talk with the people who live near the school what support they expect from the school. Another idea is to create a Facebook page where they would encourage people to take part in the discussion about the problem. Comment
