WHY ARE BEES IMPORTANT? BY IRENE GUZMAN AND LUCIA PEREZ
The most popular are bumblebees and
honeybees. They both pollinate crops and plants. They are considered to be beneficial insects because of it. The relationship between bees and plants is called symbiosis
Bees live in colonies that contain: the queen bee: is the only female bee that can
reproduce the worker bee (female) the drone bee (male)
Honeybees
ď‚— Honeybees produce honey to feed their young, and
themselves in winter months. ď‚— In fact, the honeybee is the only social insect whose colony can survive many years.
Killer bees Africanized "killer" bees look a lot like regular honeybees, but they have different wing measurements. They lives in South America and the Western and Southern United States. They have been known to chase people for over a quarter of a mile once they get excited and aggressive.
IMPORTANCE OF BEES
Without bees we would lose honey, fruits, plants and flowers.
Without bees, pollination would not exist. Without pollination, there would not be
reproduction in plants Without plants, there would not be food for vegetarian animals. Without animals, there would not be humans.
Bees are afected by: Climate change
Pesticides and pollutants
