THE MADELEINE’S PATHWAY
The museum was created with the dual aim of spreading the ecological culture and to promote awareness of our biological role as a species can change , for better or for worse , the balance , the goods and services of ecosystems .
The path of the track is a natural pathway non equipped, only parked by the passage of humans and animals
A path that prefers solutions going along with the historic plan. Those solutions should rediscover existing routes in compliance with the landscape and environmental emergencies, as well as any archaeological pre-existences.

EXPO-FOOD AREA Our architectural and curatorial proposal is based on a simple layout on tables which creates an atmosphere of refectory and market. People can watch visual statements and read key texts about different consumption habits and their consequences for our planet, they can meet and discuss with exponents of sustainable agriculture and local food production to learn about alternative approaches, and they can smell and taste the richness of agricultural and food biodiversity.
SUSTAINABLE LIVING The project aims to promote a sustainable model of temporary residence able to intercept in the milder seasons a healthy and eco-tourism. Create a model of sustainable tourism , based on a coherent fabric at local and regional level , it is to be an alternative to traditional receptive models

Among big lighthouse there are smaller ones, situated on the secondary peaks at the bottom of bays and near berths and ports. In this way, overall, lighthouses’ lights form around the seaboard a protection belt through which the boat can approach the coast or schedule its anchoring.

the ROUTES
To the lighthouse
From the sea was the enemy, but also life, the chance to survive, to experience and get rich. Since ancient times, there are coastal towers with different functions from those of attackers sighting. Instead of beeing signs of border, war and division they indicate access roads, they lead to the right way, they mean hospitality.

XVII B.C. Indigenous settlement in villages of huts. These settlements existed close to necropolis: the archaeological excavations found two clusters of burial caves; one near the inlet of “Massoliveri", the other on the south coast of “Capo Murro”. These are tombs with access to the graves pit that returned important funerary objects, identified as Aegean imported objects, connected with the worship of Thapsos
V B.C. Peloponnesian War The “Plemmirio” and the Siracusa harbour were the sites of bloody battles between the Athenians and Syracusans. Thucydides in his writings (VI-VII books), speculates on graves being re-used by the Athenians, who at the time of the Plemmirio’s siege, instead of throwing the bodies into the sea (considered a grave crime), they buried them in the oldest tombs. The Syracusans led by warrior Gylippus defeated the Athenians ending the conflict that made Syracuse the most important city of Magna Grecia.

May 1941 10-miles from the Cape, the Italian ocean liner “Conte Rosso” was sunk by the British submarine “Upholder”. “Conte Rosso” was hit by a torpedo that first destroyed the engine room, slowing its speed; a second torpedo struck the ships hold causing a large explosion. Just eight minutes after the second torpedo, the ship sank dragging with it many men, sinking to a depth of 2,000 meters. At the time of the “Conte Rosso” tragedy, 2,727 people were on the ship, of which 1,430 survived and 1,297 perished.

In 1843 the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Regno delle due Sicilie) started the FIRST big operational improvement program for maritime signals, an indication of a changing epoch in which the defensive needs were overtaken by the requirement of a precise and accurate signalling system for navigational support. Vittorio Emanuele II instituted the "Royal Commission of Ports, Beaches and Lighthouses” on May 12, 1868. In 1885 the first Law on Maritime Lighthouses and signalling systems was established (n.3095 - April 02 ‘National Organic Program of the headlights’) which was endorsed by the Superior Council of the Ministry of Public Works. Decree 568 of 17 July 1910 arranged the transfer of the lights and signalling systems for Maritime Service from the Ministry of Public Works to the Ministry of the Navy, leaving the administration of the Public Works (now the Ministry of Infrastructure), only the construction and extraordinary repairs scopes.

TYPOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION
1943
February 1943 During World War II, Submarine FR 111 after returning from a mission to Lampedusa, was spotted and attacked by three fighter-bombers while returning to the base of Augusta. The badly damaged boat sank in a short time. The commander along with 4 officers and 18 non-commissioned officers and sailors died in the attack.
July 1943 The cliffs of the lighthouse were chosen by Anglo American allies for the landing. The Naval Artillery "Lamba Doria" was the first to be sabotaged by British special troops during the landing, because of its strategic role in the territory of the Fortified town. The artillery boat was named after the Genoese admiral Lamba Doria. It was built in the late 1930’s and was armed with three 152 mm shell artillery units, the range of which allowed them to control the entire Gulf of Noto.

RAGUSA
The Lighthouse ‘Murro di Porco’ belongs to the type of block lighthouses where the tower is completely detached from the tenement house. It was built in 1859, when it was put in operation by the Kingdom of Two Sicilies. The service building at the Lighthouse, designed to accommodate the watchman and his family was probably built around the same time of the tower or soon after. The assumption that the lighthouse tower was built separately from the surrounding buildings is due to the thickness of the wall structures that incorporate part of the building, because they were found to be thinner than those on the adjacent service buildings. This fact led the hypothesis that they were built at a different time from the initial one. The lantern of the lighthouse was replaced in 1945, and you can still read about it on one of the entrance stairway steps.

The planning idea allows a large number of people to visit the lighthouse, avoiding ĂŠlite tourism and going back to a FOR ALL tourism. This is the reason why the building has been designed in order to add value to the views on the surrounding landscape. Those views, in turn, characterize the architectural space; windows are facing the most attractive views.
