AN OLD VOLVO, SOME FRIENDS, A PAIR OF TELEMARK & ALPINE SKIS, MY SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND MY SMELLY BOOTS HAVE ALL CONTRIBUTED TO MAKING MY SEASON 2012/2013 IN NOWAY AND SWEDEN SUPER NICE. I HAVE SEEN STUNNING PLACES, MET FANTASTIC PEOPLE, EATEN NORDIC SPECIALITIES AND BEEN SURROUNDED BY NORTHERN LIGHTS, SKIED THE FLUFFIEST POWDER AND THE HIKED UP MOUNTAINS IN THE REFLECTIONS OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN. I’ll SHARE WITH YOU SOME HIGHLIGHTS

“AFTER A LONG HIKE, THERE AIN’T NOTHING LIKE SKIING DOWN IN 25 CM. FRESH POWDER ON MY TELEMARK SKIS”

#1 // Ă…RE In the beginning of march me and my friend Tove travelled to Ă…re for 4 days of get a away from our studies. It was one of those weekends where the weather can seem awful, but for skiers the wind, the poor visibility also included a heavy snowfall meaning we could ski laps in the forest and come up to fresh powder every run. Enjoying the my playground

A stormy & snowy moment in the chairlift. The spirit is still high, because we know what is awaiting us

Skiing fast and jumping on small bumps here and there

It’s hard not to smile after a day like this

#2 // HAFJELL

steep, hard snow and beautiful sunsets

Hafjell is my 2nd home. Since I was a child I have been skiing here with the junior alpine racing team. At Hafjell I learned to love speed, icy and steep slopes and off course the ability to plan a run through super-g, giant slalom, slalom & skier cross courses. Only 3 years ago I started with free riding but due to my experience and technique from hundreds and hundreds hours of skiing at Hafjell, my progress was quick and soon I could implement my control and speed in the back country. Whenever I come back to Hafjell I enjoy the beautiful sunsets, the light by the river, I make jumps and chill with my friends. I relax.

#3 // NARVIK In march I travelled to the north of Norway with some friends. One of my friends is from Narvik and wanted to show us his favourites spots in Narvik. When we arrived it had we were welcomed by 30 cm of fresh snow and we had 3 fantastic days of hardcore skiing- me being the only girl I had to keep up with the fast lines, the jokes and of course the whisky at night at the local hut.

Just before arriving to Narvik. The spectacular nature in Norway always amazes me

We experienced both white out and blue bird within 5 minutes

#6 // LOFOTEN

smell of fish, northern light, grandma’s house and stunning views and lots of snow

Last summer I went to Lofoten hiking & and camping and during the summer I saw the great potential the islands have at winter as well. I knew I wanted to come back when the mountains were filled with icing. In April we went to Lofoten. The risk for avalanches was high due to heavy snow fall for several weeks meaning we had to go for safer runs than originally planned. Yet we got some great runs, with lots of snow and the hikes up were very beautiful. The ocean

surrounding us, the mountains dramatically rising from the sea and the stunning view on the top of a mountain. At night we met with some locals from the area and celebrated Easter in a very old authentic fisherman’s house we had borrowed from my friend’s grandma. Maybe it’s the whether, the nature, the people or the smell of dried fish but the atmosphere in Lofoten is unique and I will be back one day.

// MY STYLE COMING FROM A RACING BACKGROUND I LOVE SPEED AND STEEP TERRAIN, I HAVE AN ELEGANT YET AGGRESSIVE STYLE BOTH ON TELEMARK SKIS AND ON MY ALPINES. I LOVE BACK COUNTRY SKIING ON MY TELEMARK SKIS,- SKIING DOWN OPEN FACES HOWEVER WHEN THE COULOIRS BECOMES TO NARROW I PREFER MY ALPINE SKIS. THIS SEASON I’M GOING TO LEARN IMPROVE MY TIME IN THE AIR.

I AM ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR NEW ADVENTURES AND WAYS OF EXPERIENCING THE WORLD. WHEN I SKI I FEEL FREE AND THE SEASON TO COME I’M GOING TO PURSUE MY FEELING OF FREEDOM EVEN MORE. //MARIE LYHNE
