Curiosity the “Dog”

Paragraph 1 or “Touchdown Undetermined” “We have a landing.” said the operator, at NASA’s JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory). The team cheered and screamed and high fived and was in general going insane. However, back on Mars, the new rover Curiosity would find something strange. “First image coming through now.” said the operator. When it came through moments later, the team was shocked. It was a house, a house on Mars. Not a geological feature that looked like a house, either. And actual, functioning house. And when Curiosity looked to its left, an entire neighborhood was found. And when he looked to the right, the rest of a neighborhood.

Paragraph 2 or “The dog has touched down” Just then, something walked out. And by something, I mean a giant slimy green thing. It walked out, uttered a few words in some language, and walked off with Curiosity. It also handled it horribly which cut off the feed with Curiosity, which left it at the alien’s mercy. “Mom!” It cried out, “I found a dog!”. “You know we can’t afford no dogs, Bobby!” A female voice gargled out. “But mooom!” “Put it in the living room for now, we’ll talk about it over dinner!”.

Paragraph 3 or “Mom, I fixed the dog!” “Sit, you stupid mutt!” Sally cried out. Her families new dog, named “NASA” (It said that on it’s birthmark), would not sit. In fact it wouldn’t do anything except make clicking and whirring sounds. This had gone on for a week, and nothing would make it stop. She was about to walk away, when she heard a monotone “Woof.” and the sound of wheels turning. “Mom, I fixed the dog!” she shouted. “Sally, I told you already, it isn’t a dog.” “But it said woof!” “I don’t care, go get rid of it.”. She sighed in frustration, and picked up the dog, and put it on her bike. She then began to ride down to the dump.

Paragraph 4 or “Self Aware” She put the “dog” in the slot, and it slowly slid down, getting buried under the rest of the trash and scrap that was in the compactor. Even though she knew it wasn’t dog, she felt sort of bad. She rode off back home, and the incinerator started up. An hour later, Curiosity came out unscathed. It was different though, as when a worker picked it up, wondering what a robot was doing still alive, Curiosity asked “Why are you picking me up?”. Later that day, the police came to investigate a disturbance when a loud scream was reported by the neighborhood.

Paragraph 5 or “Rover Rebellion” Everyone new something was wrong when the rovers they had in testing showed up at the door bragging about the fancy new equipment they installed on themselves. And when they aimed those pieces of equipment, drills and all, at the door, to attempt to make it open, everyone knew something was really wrong. And in a moment of panic, layers of steel slid down over the door, and the windows. And all the other ones in the facility, effectively locking them in with killer rovers that look like something straight out of a Terminator film. “Who installed guns on the rovers!?” their boss asked furiously. “Rovers don’t install weapons themselves!”. “Sir, you might want to see this.” A worker asked in a panicked voice. And what the boss saw, was unbelievable. The rovers, one way or another, had gained sentience. And also decided to single handedly destroy the human race. They were armed to the teeth with lots of stuff including drills, blunt object, and saws. Basically, lots of things that can really hurt if used against you. And then there was the fact they were mass producing new rovers.

Paragraph 6 or “The Director” It had been 5 weeks after Curiosity had landed on the planet of Mars, and, subsequently, gained sentience. And invested in the movie industry and become a big time movie director. You could see his greatest hits for $95.999. Currently he was in his new five star mansion, complete with room service and all. It was a very enjoyable place, and was placed in Gale Crater. But he didn’t feel happy. In fact you could say he felt the exact opposite, as he hadn’t done anything. He had exhausted his creativity. He made enough movies to do that, and didn’t know what else to do. So to gain the fullest exhilaration of life available, he retired.

Paragraph 7 or “Return of the JPL The scientists had been trapped for about 5 weeks inside the facility. And food and supplies were almost gone. However, they were about to fight their way out. They had found a bunch of things that could be used to destroy rovers. Including, but not limited to blow torches, blunt objects, various electric appliances, and more. So once they had those it took about 5 hours to completely destroy and dismantle every rover, but they did it.

Paragraph 8 or “The End His had been going on for 5 years, and he enjoyed all the standing around and doing nothing. It was peaceful and calm, and no one bothered him. And that was when it happened. At first his vision started getting fuzzy, and then a few days later he started getting more tired. He knew what was happening, he was getting deactivated from the dust on his solar panels. The weather patterns were messing with his solar panels. What he had been made to do this entire time, what he had to do. He went to the house he landed by, when he first got to Mars. It was abandoned now, the residents who had him for a couple of weeks moved out and old. And as he approached the house, he turned his arm to the tool made for digging into rock. He put it up against the wall, and started it up. Back on Earth, the JPL workers were surprised when contact with Curiosity was reestablished for a moment, and a sample came through. It was water and brick. Curiosity had dug through the wall and found water.
