Upside Down My mornings are my afternoons and my evenings now As I live in the silence of my hermit winter —mpl
Marietta Patricia Leis presents her series Lost and Found in Iceland based on her winter experience in Iceland as an Artist in Residence. Leis’ sculptural paintings catch the light creating a visceral experience of illumination in darkness. — Micheal McClung & Warren Campbell

I travelled to the far North Island of Iceland to discover the beauty and mystery of darkness. There is a fear component to the dark that was quickly dispelled with the celestial beauty of stars and Northern Lights. The geography of Iceland and my experiences of awe prompted this body of work. The dark, monochromatic graphite acrylic paintings on shaped wood resonating the volcanic landscape were carefully created layer by layer. And the snowy white and gray paintings employed a squeegee and a spontaneous calligraphic application like the many winter snowfalls. In addition to reflecting the beauty of Iceland, my intention is to help us contemplate our role in halting climate change tragedies and preserve the exceptional splendor of our planet for genrations to come. — Marietta Patricia Leis
