The calendar was first created in 2010 as a part of the Hometown Project So the vessel floats... The authors were Tena Knežević (the project student-manager), Ivana Novaković, Matea Barišić, Sara Šterk and Barbara Olanović – all attended the Secondary School of Economics at the time. Special thanks go to many other amateur photographers/writers who had contributed to the calendar creation with at least one photo/poem. The project teacher-administrators were Marija Deanković, the school's librarian, and Ivana Opačak, a Croatian and English teacher. The calendar was printed and exhibited for the School's Day.
The calendar was adapted in October 2013 by 3B-eTwinners and Marija Deanković (as a part of eTwinning Project E-mag).
The main project idea was to use the symbolic name of SLAVONSKI BROD (literally translated into English as Slavonian Vessel) in order to show the current social and political situation in our hometown and our homeland. In 2010 Slavonski Brod was one of the poorest cities in Croatia and Croatia was on its way to join the EU. The students' message was: Let's cherish the beauties of our hometown/ homeland and never give them up!!! Today Slavonski Brod is blooming… and Croatia is a recognisable (newest) EU member. We are proud to be living here and to be able to show our beauties to the world! Every calendar page portrays one thematic area of our hometown:
