Knowing what the eyes are gravitated towards, one can plan your lightning in such a way for best impact on the viewer and to tell the story you want them to hear. One can create strong photos by using shadow and contrast. Contrast is something that occurs naturally when you shoot in light. By exposing the highlights, one get strong shadows.
Contrast visualizes shadows and highlights and it also helps to translate the idea of depth. This way elements pop out or recede into the background.
If your composition skills are good and you understand how to control exposure on your camera you can use high contrast lighting to create dramatic photos like the ones in this tutorial. It’s all about using the interplay of light and shadow to create interesting and dynamic compositions. Don’t show the viewer everything, and leave gaps for their imagination to fill.
