We work closely with Memorial University’s International Student Advising Office to provide immigration advice, language support programs, housing and employment assistance – from application to graduation!
Admissions Submit an Application for Admission to the Marine Institute, along with official documentation, well in advance of the semester for which you are seeking admission. You should begin the application process as early as possible. Due to time constraints and immigration processes, late applications cannot be considered. It is highly advised to submit applications before April 1 for September enrolment and before August 1 for January enrolment. For detailed information on our admissions requirements please see Section 2 of our online calendar www.mi.mun.ca/webcalendar. Most students also require a Study Permit and a Temporary Resident Visa before coming to Canada. English as a Second Language You should possess an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English as a prerequisite to admission. The Marine Institute accepts a number of ways to demonstrate English language proficiency including: • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum 550 paper-based; 213 computer-based; 79 Internet-based test. • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - an overall band score of 6.5, with at least band 6 in each of writing and reading. Scholarships and Awards You have access to a variety of scholarships and awards as a full-time Marine Institute student. Scholarships are awarded twice a year to our new and returning students based on academic achievement, leadership and creativity. The Marine Institute prides itself on having strong relationships with organizations and one such example of that is the Fry Family Foundation. The Fry Family continues to offer a variety of scholarships at the Marine Institute campus including entrance scholarships.
