Memorial University of Newfoundland The largest university in Atlantic Canada, Memorial University offers more than 100 degree programs to a student population of more than 17,500. Students can expand their horizons at any one of our four campuses. The St. John’s campus and the Marine Institute are located in St. John’s, the capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador. Students can choose to study at our campus on the west coast, in Corner Brook, or in Harlow, England.

The St. John’s campus is the largest campus where students can choose to study from one of Memorial’s six faculties (arts, business, education, engineering and applied science, medicine and science) or six schools (music, human kinetics and recreation, graduate studies, nursing, pharmacy, social work).

International Students MI International is your connection for international student services at the Marine Institute. We work closely with Memorial University’s International Student Advising Office to provide immigration advice, language support programs, housing and employment assistance – from application to graduation!
Admissions Submit an Application for Admission to the Marine Institute, along with official documentation, well in advance of the semester for which you are seeking admission. You should begin the application process as early as possible. Due to time constraints and immigration processes, applications cannot be considered beyond April 1 for September enrolment and August 1 for January enrolment. Most students also require a Study Permit and a Temporary Resident Visa before coming to Canada. Please visit the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration website for information on how to apply for these documents. www.cic.gc.ca
English as a Second Language You should possess an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English as a prerequisite to admission. The Marine Institute accepts a number of ways to demonstrate English language proficiency including: • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum 550 paper-based; 213 computer-based; 79 Internet-based test. • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - an overall band score of 6.5, with at least band 6 in each of writing and reading. Where to Live The Marine Institute is only a few minutes from Memorial University’s St. John’s campus residences and on-campus apartments. You will also find countless accommodations throughout St. John’s and surrounding areas. There is a separate application for student housing.
