Welcome to the

Marine Theatre’s AUTUMN SEASON

We are really excited to present this varied programme which we hope will include something for everyone. Theatre highlights include Fringe First Winner Henry Naylor’s play The Collector [p25] and award-winning Told By An Idiot brand new show [p29]. My highlight of last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe was Blind Man’s Song a completely unique show blending mime, physical theatre and music [p15] - not to be missed as part of our ArtsFest season. There’s also comedy from TV stand-up Hal Cruttenden and BBC R4’s Simon Evans, and hilarious improvised Jane Austen in Austentatious. Local artist Luke Brown returns to the Marine with an exciting dance performance that he developed here at the Marine last spring [p16] and there’s plenty of live music, from Police Dog Hogan [p19] to a stunning evening celebrating Nina Simone [p11].

We hope to see you at a show or in the Marine Bar very soon! Clemmie, Artistic Director, and the Marine Team

THEATRE THEATRE503 AND BRISTOL OLD VIC IN ASSOCIATION WITH TARA FINNEY PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS

And Then Come The Nightjars MONDAY 17 TH OCTOBER

A savagely funny and sad play directed with real delicacy. The Guardian

South Devon, 2001. Jeff is a dairy vet with a problem. Michael is a cattle farmer - he is a problem. The two men have a begrudging respect for one another, usually expressed through a shared fag, a nip of whisky and some boisterous banter. When Foot and Mouth sweeps across the countryside their friendship and whole way of life are thrown into question. Michael watches in disbelief as his cows are rounded up, and to his horror, it is Jeff brandishing the gun. Tender, funny and full of love, And Then Come The Nightjars is a story of male friendship against the odds, and a tribute to rural English life.
