WePhoto Animal 2017 Vol 4 Dear all, Like ever before it’s again a moment of pride for WePhoto to present before you the next Book in ‘The Series’ representing the genre - Animals. About three years ago we launched our first eBook that included the photographic work of our 15 administrators, who at that time were contributing to the ‘WePhoto’ group. Since then, we have published 60+ eBooks, a special edition work called WePhoto Annual Calendar for the years 2015, ’16 and ’17. This annual collection called - The Series - is made of eBooks each related to a specific photographic theme, and includes the artwork of several authors from Italy and abroad. The one in your hands is the fourth thematic Book dedicated to Animals Photography. Apart from the e-version these Books are available in the form of coffee table books too. WePhoto Animals Vol 4: We as humans once belonged to the same diaspora that animals did. Perhaps this is why we love living close to nature or rush towards her the moment we get an opportunity. Research shows that we are still cavemen at heart although we live in city houses. The basic wiring in our brains and how we interact are the same as thousands of years ago. Nature is where we still belong. Animal or more popularly called wildlife photography is about capturing a split second, when the light and the animal behavior come together to create an emotional image. Whether your subject is a wild animal in the jungle or a pet/domesticated one at home, their behavior is usually the same. More than a taste of adventure and accomplishment animal photography also offers a sense of belongingness to the planet. Having patience, persistence and perseverance are the three key parameters to be good at animal photography. Presented here-within are a few best photographers from the genre whose admirable work should inspire you for sure.

GIANNI FERRIANI Tradate, Italy

He was born in Varese (Italy) in 1962 and now lives in Tradate with his family. Gianni is a partner at Lipu and FIAF, and a member of the "Art Fotoclub" of Fagnano Olona since 1995. He also participates in national contests for personal satisfaction. He shares his passion with other photographers and friends, explaining the art of photography and the love for nature. He has been a keen naturalist since he was a child. He initially started photography as a self-taught person. Later in the 90’s, he followed a course on nature photography and from that moment, an unbridled passion for this kind of pictures began. Sensitive to all the aspects that nature and living beings give us every day, he tries to find in every shot the natural essence of the moment - unique and unrepeatable - which occurs in front of the lens, which happens to be a natural extension to his own eye. 10

Owner / Photographer at: cristianmarculescupetphotography.weebly.com/ My passion for photography began many years ago, but I started to get more involved in fulfilling my dream of becoming a professional photographer in 2009, when I bought my first Nikon dSLR camera. For once I can say that I have tried many genres as landscapes, portraits, event or commercial photography because I wanted to learn everything about this wonderful art. In 2016 I made the decision to adopt a puppy who I have to tell you has changed my life, including my vision for photography. I started studying pet photography and realized I loved that. Now pet photography has become a huge passion for me. 22

My name is Loredana Beschi. I am passionate about photography for several years but until recently I have only clicked with analog cameras, developing and printing by myself exclusively in black and white. It's been just a while since I came close to digital photography. I like to photograph mainly landscapes and animals, a genre I've been lately passionate about, and I really enjoy doing it. Do take a closer look. Since 1992, I have been part of the Artimmagine group based in Montichiari (BS). 34

ROBERTO BARILANI Pancalieri, Italy facebook.com/roberto.barilani

Born in Tanzania, I have spent my life at many different places, enjoying life every possible way. I therefore consider myself a gipsy that seeks all the time new interests, emotions and experiences. I currently spend most of my time in Italy and Finland. Photography is more than a hobby to me that integrates with my profession. I prefer to create simplistic images as far as possible with plain and ordinary subjects. Nature photography is my way to remain connected to the essence of life, away from the crowd and of the maddening everyday noise. The following set of photos is a small tribute to some of my preferred animals that you can find in Europe, for example` wolverines, brown bears and their cubs, red deer and bisons. 46

MARINA CONTI Milano, Italy

I was born in the province of Milan and grew up surrounded by the nature and the animals I have always loved to observe. My passion for photography has just begun, and it makes me feel so much satisfaction that every shot feeds my desire for the next one. I love to photograph because it allows me to spend a lot of time with the animals to observe them in their everyday life and to freeze their unprecedented moments and unique emotions that they keep giving me. Through my shots I try to exalt their beauty, elegance and the ability to have feelings and behaviors similar to us humans. Taking pictures of animals and watching them is returning to what they have been to me and make my heart beat. 58

MIRIAM D'OVIDIO Milano, Italy juzaphoto.com/me.php?p=61903&pg=allphotos&l=it

I was born in 1967 in Milan and work as a veterinary surgeon and dog trainer. I live in the countryside where I bring the dogs I work with and their families (my clients) to redi-scover the pleasure of connecting with nature. I realized that immersion in nature, in every form I encounter her, has the great power to make me feel a part of her and bring out emotions which allow me to reduce my everyday fatigue and give it

that value of respect, enthusiasm and love

with which, thank God, I can face up to my work and my life. Photography is an eye I constantly keep on Nature, trying to bring my friends with me through an image and in the emotions I feel looking at it.

SAMUELE MAMBELLI Forlimpopoli, Italy

facebook.com/samuelemambelliphoto 500px.com/samuelemambelli juzaphoto.com/me.php?l=it&p=81776

Naturalistic Photography is seizing that intimate, wild, spectacular moment that Nature only may offer to you. I've spent so many hours waiting for that moment, of that wild appearance, many of which bring no result but oftentimes they pay you back when you take home that perfect shot. I love Nature at 360 °, but I want to show you the Italian Fauna, especially in my beloved land: Romagna. The Apprentice Worm, the King Deer, the fascinating glimpse of the Rapace, the colorful nuances of the Birds, and much more. Knowing these animals, respecting them and leaving them the necessary spaces is essential for coexistence, and at the same time knowing them helps you dispel myths, based on unfounded medieval beliefs and legends. 82

Originally a Roman immigrated for the past few years to the Republic of San Marino where I continue to live. I started photographing as a child with a Petri belonging to my father, going further in time with acquiring a Canon AE1 model. Then following the technology I went to digital with various brands like Sony, Nikon to finally marry with an Olympus. I photographed everything I liked that attracted me, fascinated me, from macro to fauna, from portraits to landscapes, from light painting to street and what not. I'm just a passionate artist who after music has chosen to convey his drives through photography. To me “Photography is an art and every art is expression of the soul!" 94
